That's so rude.

Yeah, I was feeling for OP until this came out. To me judging someone for buying their children fewer presents is even less attractive than judging someone for over-indulging.

Christ, you lot would hate me. I have one DD, she’s turning 9 right before Christmas and I spend about £600 for her birthday and Xmas. Only one child and I’ll spend what I please on her. She’ll also be getting a new phone this year (yes she has a phone, to keep in touch with me whilst she’s at her dads, and contact some family members who live on the opposite side of the family.)

Birthdays I always do themed, last year was stitch (so everything was blue), this year it’s Olivia Rodrigo so everything will be purple. Cake, balloons, every present is some shade of purple. It’s a few days before Christmas so everything else that’s not themed gets given for Christmas.

On the to buy list is :

  • uggs
  • jacqueline Wilson books
  • worst witch books
  • crocs
  • new pjs/dressing gown
  • clothes
  • little bits of make-up + skincare (older cousins have got her into it)
  • fidget toys
  • instax film
  • Art supplies (posca pens etc)
  • squishmallows
  • lush bath bomb set
  • a new scooter
  • nintendo switch games

Love the list ! Was thinking of an instax but I think I should do that next bday/ xmas
And love the uggs!

Our 8 soon to be 9 yr old loves the Sushi Go Party game. It’s essentially a card game but the scores are marked on a board.

I also find these threads really useful, whether I can afford to spend the same as OP or not, the ideas are actually super helpful.

Oh, bubble tea kits are MASSIVE at the mo.

That sounds like a good game! May be tempted to get bubble tea kit for myself!

What’s the aim of your thread? To boast?

It’s easy to buy them at that age, dd 12 is super easy but it is harder than previous years. We also go bigger at Christmas, birthdays are a budget of £150 and we always go out for meal or get takeaway of birthday girl/boy choice.
ignore the ‘too many’ comments, it’s your money your child, like I tell people, I work hard, if I want to spend money on my kids, then I will with no guilt. I don’t drink or smoke, I don’t get my nails done every 2 months. Guess what my child isn’t a spoilt brat and appreciates literally anything I buy her from a kinder bueno to an IPad.
dd12 is getting

Nintendo switch + games
Wednesday lego x 3
Wednesday cushion
Wednesday hooded fleece
ty beanies
kylie Jenner lip gloss
sabrina carpenter body mist
sol de janeiro set pink
books
lush
sabrina carpenter record (from DS)
sabrina carpenter concert tickets (from my mum and sister)

ds16 is notoriously hard to buy for but I’m actually doing okay, it’s his stocking I’m struggling with.
so far he has
an Apple Watch,
an Eminem hoody
40 years of music vinyl
my sister is buying him abba voyage tickets
I’ve also just ordered his phone for his birthday just after Christmas as I got a fantastic deal that I couldn’t afford to pass up…

Me n her dad work our butt's off during year and aftersummer holidays extra hours n super tight just spending money on bills to save as much as we can for xmas n she is appreciate an deserves, so some comments feel a kick in the teeth.

I love your list!

Is this a joke? That's a RIDICULOUS amount of gifts.

Doublesidedstickytape · 06/10/2024 07:29

Way too much. By about 3 times.

So far mine has requested a giant squishmallow, and craft stuff. I'm looking at maybe a kids sewing machine? There was one with a pre-threaded needle that looked suitable. Bitzee is another possibility, she does like gizmos.
I've already got her a bracelet making kit.
She also wants the Rainbow High colour in doll, but she doesn't really play with dolls anymore so I'm undecided.

We got a massive flamingo squishmallow thing last year so comfy for her !

I think this is a good varied list. If they asked for a games console it would cost that for the one thing. Don't feel that you have to justify yourself for your spending and thanks for idea's for my god daughter I've sent some to her parents and they have given me 3 to choose from :)

Only spent around 150 rest is from family - I only put price if people are wanting the list n are wondering, maybe that's where I went wring

I’ve no opinion on what you’ve listed .but mind is blown somewhat by the very idea of making this list and putting it here. That’s the bit that confuses me.

I apologise. However the list says what I'm getting for christmas- why open my post did you come on here to make that comment? There's other post too about xmas list did you write say on there ?

When will she have time to even play with a fraction of it all. At that age we’d have bought DT’s three or four of the items.

365 days of course plays with toys everyday :)

Ignore all the very weird judgy comments, I was a spoilt child. I've grown up just fine and not some sort of monster 🤣. Sounds like a brilliant list, if you can't treat your kid at Christmas/birthdays then when can you. The only thing I'd change is the lush jelly, I tried the snow fairy one in store and it literally fell apart in my hand, it might have been a bad batch. They do a snow fairy 'fun' which is like play doh, it's a soap/bubble bath etc all in one and you can make shapes out of it.

I was thinking about that actually! Will have to look into the playdoh like lush :)

@WickerMam could I ask what age you found a kindle was best from? My DS demolishes books but does still very much enjoy illustrations and I'm not sure if he's ready for a kindle (but my bank balance likes the sound of an unlimited subscription). He turns 7 next birthday.

UpTheMagicFarawayTree · 06/10/2024 07:43

I enjoy reading what other people are buying as it's quite interesting to see things I've never heard or thought of.

My dd is a little younger than yours, the main thing she wants this year is a Hatchimal Alive surprise egg (I think it's basically a version of furby.) I've bought that already as it was on offer if you preordered.

I've also got a Barbie I know shes been interested in for a while, a Children's Animal Atlas and a Flower fairies book - I bought them when I saw them on offer. She'll probably get another biggish one for under the tree (as the Hatchimal wasn't particularly expensive) and then her stocking.

Her stocking will be things like hair clips, lush bath bomb, sticker book, some chocolate, socks, pants and vests (alwys!), lol doll, notebook, fun pen, mini craft kit etc, it just depends what I see around that looks like she'd enjoy.

Littleelffriend · 06/10/2024 07:45

My 8 year old would find your list far too babyish. She used to love sylvanian families but gave them all to her little sister over a year ago. The Barbie styling head I’m getting for my 4 year old

SarahSosej · 06/10/2024 07:47

Love the list. Some great ideas for my 7 year old dd.

idrinkandknowthings · 06/10/2024 07:49

OP I was going to tell you to ignore the people aghast at the amount of money you spend on your child at Christmas. Until I saw your 'poor kids' comment.

I can't stand the that's a waste/kids will be spoiled/you just buy tat comments usually, which in my case is far from the case.

But yeah 'poor kids' is a nobhead comment.

I spend more on my child by the way than you do and would be subjected to arsey comments if I was to broadcast it but yeah 'your poor kids' if you're only spending 400!

Apologise my list has triggered people. This was a list of what I'm GETTING (not got) maybe i might get all and more, me and partner save up as much as we can to treat OUR daughter. If you can afford it and WANTED to buy your kids loads of presents I'm sure you would.

My daughter loves and appreciate and deserve everything she gets and plays all year long - she tidies after herself so house and bedroom not messy.

She is lucky and is NOT spoilt (strange why some people are calling out a child) SHE IS deserving.

This is a thread for ideas for everyone, you know this by the title. There's no need to comment on the amount and what the item is made out of as I already know this.

Also loads about books, she has loads of books already and loves reading and is extremely intelligent so please don't worry yourself that my child isn't getting more books- I may add books to make her pile even bigger !!

I know I shouldn't have to justify- but unfortunately due to comments I feel I have to. Please don't comment more unwanted opinions keep them to yourself or tell your friend

Thank you
