Not one book? Or something a bit educational?
sorry OP it’s mostly tat and completely overindulgent
no idea why you posted 3 months before Christmas? To show off?

Hopingforno2in2024 · 05/10/2024 21:01

At the moment I am planning the following for DS8

Stocking:
Pack of yoto cards
Pack of Pokémon cards
Can of coke
Chocolate coins
Mini silicone kitchen utensils
Hot chocolate on a stick

Under tree:
Hamper of his favourite food and drink stuff
Voucher for a day out
A switch game

From family he will probably receive books, board games and some clothes. Nothing massive. He isn't really into toys or crafts sadly.

Scout2016 · 05/10/2024 21:26

Thanks @MemphisBluesAgain last year a couple of the hard back Ottaline books were a hit. Beautiful and with great detail and illustrations. I try to have at least one book that's a bit special, I've ordered a diary by a girl set in WW2 this year - fold out note inserts and that sort of thing and your dragon one looks great.
We've just read Dick King Smith's Dragon Boy which she enjoyed if your is into dragons.

moorin · 05/10/2024 21:33

Oh this is a nightmare.

I'm now going to buy my Daughters a load of stuff from this list 🙈🙈.

scandiva · 05/10/2024 21:34

A lot of plastic shite and not a single book!

Trying to cut down this year

Awumminnscotland · 05/10/2024 22:06

Ooh! Stitch monopoly! Thanks for that idea op.

WickerMam · 05/10/2024 22:06

I don't know why people are being sniffy about a list posted in the xmas section.

It's a long list, but if your DC doesn't want a high value item, you end up with more small things.

I don't think it is all plastic shite either. There are loads of consumables - slime, aquabeads, art bits, play doh, cosmetics. These are the sort of thing some people would just replace mid-year, as needed. There are also things like a lamp and soft toys that should last for ages.

And as for "no books", then so what? Maybe the DC doesn't enjoy reading. Or maybe OP just buys books when wanted! Xmas presents shouldn't be about what you think your children should want. (I say that as the parent of a child who reads for hours per day, but has a kindle unlimited subscription - there will be no books on his list).

And i have a pretty firm idea of what my kids will be getting, even though it is october! I have a gap or two in case of changed minds, but i know fine well what they will ask for.

We bought Dragonwood for daughter's birthday...a card strategy game...if she likes those kind of games..

Laureli · 05/10/2024 18:21

She sure is ! :)

Or spoilt

cheddercherry · 05/10/2024 22:10
  1. Some people on the thread clearly find this useful, hence why OP posted
  2. It’s posted to the Christmas board…if you’re so annoyed about shopping in October maybe you’d be more at home on the AIBU thread where everyone spews bile at each other
  3. If you’ve clicked on what is CLEARLY going to be a list of gifts (as per the title) only to then post something scathing then wow, must you feel great about yourself tonight

OP I’m sure your daughter will love her gifts and also people will appreciate the ideas.

ALunchbox · 05/10/2024 22:15

What a waste.

Awumminnscotland · 05/10/2024 22:26

Why does it bother people so much how much, how little or what present choices other people decide for their child/ children? Genuinely, in what way does it affect you? Do you honestly make morally ,economically, and socially conscientious decisions regarding your children at all times? If so kudos to you but in my experience most people do not do that the majority of the time and especially not at Christmas.

Raggydollz · 05/10/2024 22:32

So far my 8 yr old has some Heeley's, Minecraft toy, headset for Xbox, small Lego set, and laser gun toy. Hope to find few more bits in sales soon.

doodleschnoodle · 05/10/2024 22:35

DD1 is a bit younger but she needs a new scooter, which is £170, but it feels like a bit of a rubbish main gift as she already has a scooter, just has outgrown it. So we will probably end up spending quite a bit on her this year just as the expensive present is more of a practical thing. If it was the first scooter she was getting it would feel better I think! But she is looking forward to getting a new one and it is a bit fancier than the old one so still worth doing for Xmas I think as she doesn't need it quite yet.

Usual assortment of Pokemon plushies and merch, loads of craft kits and stuff, some books, some clothes (Pokemon most likely!), and we are going to the panto and the ballet. Oh and she really wants a slime kit, so I'll grit my teeth and sort that! And stocking with usual bits: Pokemon cards, funny little bits I've been collecting through the year, sweeties, she loves a lip balm, requisite satsuma in the toe!

Not got a clue for my 2yo though. We've got all the big ticket stuff already and don't want to buy stuff for the sake of it.

TheOpalReader · 05/10/2024 22:39

Ignore all the very weird judgy comments, I was a spoilt child. I've grown up just fine and not some sort of monster 🤣. Sounds like a brilliant list, if you can't treat your kid at Christmas/birthdays then when can you. The only thing I'd change is the lush jelly, I tried the snow fairy one in store and it literally fell apart in my hand, it might have been a bad batch. They do a snow fairy 'fun' which is like play doh, it's a soap/bubble bath etc all in one and you can make shapes out of it.

Parker231 · 05/10/2024 22:43

When will she have time to even play with a fraction of it all. At that age we’d have bought DT’s three or four of the items.

MumonabikeE5 · 05/10/2024 22:45

I’ve no opinion on what you’ve listed .but mind is blown somewhat by the very idea of making this list and putting it here. That’s the bit that confuses me.

I don't really get this either. It's a list of toys for an 8 year old. None of them seem like outrageous items. It's kind of nice to hear of a child that age getting actual toys rather than tech or pre-*teen skincare. I don't think it's the amount because nobody would be up in arms if the child was getting a new bike for that amount. And so what about the lack of books? I don't buy my daughter many books at Christmas because most of ours come from the library. (Much more eco-friendly than buying them, for those who care.)

I love these threads because there's often lots of stuff I would never have heard of otherwise. Sometimes there are good ideas! I also don't think myself a superior parent because my kid isn't interested in Polly Pocket.

Laureli · 05/10/2024 18:19

This is from me and her dad, x2 grandparents, x2 aunties and uncles - thank you for your opinion:)

I think this is a good varied list. If they asked for a games console it would cost that for the one thing. Don't feel that you have to justify yourself for your spending and thanks for idea's for my god daughter I've sent some to her parents and they have given me 3 to choose from :)

OctoblocksAssemble · 05/10/2024 22:52

So far mine has requested a giant squishmallow, and craft stuff. I'm looking at maybe a kids sewing machine? There was one with a pre-threaded needle that looked suitable. Bitzee is another possibility, she does like gizmos.
I've already got her a bracelet making kit.
She also wants the Rainbow High colour in doll, but she doesn't really play with dolls anymore so I'm undecided.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 05/10/2024 22:53

That's a lot. I'd cut it right down starting with the pen creator kit which is absolutely shit......got it for my dd's 8th birthday and it really is single use plastic at its worst!

PMAmostofthetime · 05/10/2024 22:53

FountainofTruth · 05/10/2024 19:55

We've bought dgd (also 8) a mathmos neo lava lamp and theatre tickets. Also do a stocking which we gift at the dinner table. It includes sylvanian families blind bag (the works), nina peanut latest book, donut cosy socks, and a shiny red apple (obvs haven't bought that). I like the idea of putting a lush bath product in thanks, I'm going to do that next year!

It's not about what you buy them it's about teaching them to be grateful, not expect things and the value of money.
