Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Hi, it’s worth checking your Boots Advantage offers to see if you have any offers on advent calendars. My offers today include double points on selected advent calendars, (and some are also reduced by up to 25% - e.g. Nivea Men’s and B&H Men’s).

Thelifeofawife · 02/10/2024 11:05

There are posts upthread for a £2 gardening book, and some cheap seed packets - would these be a suitable gift? You could make a hamper with them, and then get an afternoon tea set or something as well

Just to add, B&Q seeds are half of ice at the mo

Lellyo · 02/10/2024 11:10

price

Clucket87 · 02/10/2024 11:21

Amazon have Kindle Fire 8 HD down to £44.99 and the Kindle Fire 10 HD down to £79.99.
These are for the 32GB versions.
I know for the 10, it is the lowest price ever according to the 3 camels. Xx

okayhescereal · 02/10/2024 11:25

@bizzey I just went to B&M and they basically had an entire aisle dedicated to hot chocolate. Bombs, spoons, powder in bulk, individual sachets, branded, themed....everything you can think of really! Got 7 different flavour spoons for £5.

Also thank you so much, this was all still in my car, just went to take the photo for you and realised I'd left the blooming handbrake off. So hurrah for mumsnet 😅

😖I've been trying for over an hour to buy one of the photo advent calendars for my MIL and the site keeps crashing, both on my phone and on the laptop and each time it does, it loses all progress. Such a shame as it looks brilliant.

Nice wooden sound blocks which are well reviewed and would make a great gift for a 1 year old reduced to £5.77 on amazon

here

Thank you! Just picked these up for my youngest

OHS look good .
4 items in basket .

I think I need Hot Chocolate help !

Selection box /different ones in a set ...sort of thing .
Person loves hot chocolates and would be nice to try out different flavours maybe ?
Or brands if the advent hot chocolate thing exists !!

What’s your budget?

Elpheba · 02/10/2024 11:37

@TinyGingerCat sadly not. I had a Google and even tried the old “welcome10” trick etc but no joy. Didn’t have to pay postage as I ordered so many but a discount would have been the icing on the cake!

@ruralwanderer I had no issues yesterday- frustrating though!

Right, this is worth 5 minutes of faffing of you have beauty lovers to buy for ...

Subscribe to OK Beauty Box and get your first box for £8.99 (normally £15) with free p and p. When I clicked in to buy I had a pop window offering a free mystery gift worth -£32 with first box. This does sign you up to emails so maybe something you unsubscribe from later.

IMPORTANT PART - this process signs you up for a monthly box but it's very simple to cancel ... I waited until I'd had my box then cancelled the lot. BUT DONT FORGET TO CANCEL IF YOU DONT WANT AN ONGOING SUB ANS PAYMENT!!!!

I blatantly do this offer around this time of year every year, with a fresh email address to get the low price and there's always a freebie. I find the contents aren't quite as amazing as other pricier boxes however still very lovely for small sticking fillers

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 02/10/2024 11:41

You also get a voucher for x 2 magazines but these tend to have a very short time on them so use those quickly

sorryiasked · 02/10/2024 11:48

@bizzey I got these from b&m last year for around £2

Titsonboard · 02/10/2024 11:52

Jurassic Jim on Facebook just posted about fossil and gems advent calendars, I know people have asked in previous years and they sell out quick. Only deal online through Facebook but have ordered from them myself in the past ( not advent calendars) with no problems

Titsonboard · 02/10/2024 11:53

@Amazonmulu do your neighbours have a black sense of humour ? Marvellous maps ( different stockist carry them) have a Bucket List map.

Smileatthesmallthings · 02/10/2024 12:02

Hi guys. Around this time last year I remember there being a really generic 10% off code floating round for Boots. Does anyone have one this year at all?

Darkbutstarrynight · 02/10/2024 12:03

@Amazonmulu
You can also buy jigsaws based on a map with a postcode or place of your choice in the centre, possibly direct from ordinance survey

STom2 · 02/10/2024 12:09

For anyone considering the Melissa & Doug wooden ice cream play set, the smaller set appears to be 50% off today on Amazon (£14.99 down from £29.99). I faffed when the bigger set was reduced so I'm keeping my eyes out for that dropping again 👀

Cupofteaandbiscuits · 02/10/2024 12:10

Just seen these wooden blocks

bizzey · 02/10/2024 12:11

@okayhescereal ...yaaay for hot chocolate saving the day ! 😂.
That looks just what I am after ...

Unfortunately...no B&M near me in London !

But ...I now know the sort of thing I am looking for .
Thank you.

FilthyforFirth · 02/10/2024 12:36

Bit of a random one but if you have any American Football enthusiasts in your life, this website has a great sale on.

I have bought from them before as hubby is a big Seattle Seahawks fan, and it comes from Europe so no extortionate shipping! (Which I used to have to pay!)

Got him a few bits in the sale this morning. Sorry for rubbish link

I have a weird request 🙈 Can anyone recommend a gift for our lovely neighbours who are into gardening and hiking and are age 80+? We've done the booze and chocolates gifts and I'm really stuck this year. They are the nicest people, though we don't know them that well they always get DC Easter / Xmas gifts. And I just want to get them something lovely ♥️ Budget isn't huge - max £30

I recently sent one of the Kew Gardens hampers to someone and they were really pleased, if you sign up for the newsletter you get 15% off which covered the delivery cost for me. Also, as I posted yesterday Homebase have some really nice garden bits reduced and an extra 10% off which ends today.

@Mew2
Ah I've had those paint sticks in my Amazon basket for a while now but was a bit unsure, think we'll give them a go!

@NotMeekNotObedient
Oh that green toys site looks lovely! Thank you!

@Obsessingoverchristmas
How cute! Easy to clean too, absolute win! Thanks!

@okayhescereal
What a fab idea! We've had the numbers for a while and they seem to be more of a chew toy than anything 😳 (which is probably inspired by burger shop..) but will definitely be keeping this in mind, thank you!

bizzey · 02/10/2024 12:50

@sorryiasked ..thank you !
They look perfect !

sansou · 02/10/2024 12:53

Tesco has Treacle Moon Bath & Shower Gel 500ml in all different "flavours" at £1.65 Clubcard price. Similarly, there was Imperial Leather Neroli & Mandarin plus the Bergamot & Sea Salt Body Washes 250ml for £1 which are great for stocking fillers. Baylis & Harding Lavender & Bergamot 500ml Bath Soak was £3.75. Much better value than the much smaller bottle gift sets on the opposite aisle! I definitely stocked up for the household - I think that we're good for at least the next 6 mths.😀

Heads up before anyone from Northern Ireland/Highlands bothers, they want £5 postage🫠
Great offer if not!
