Thread 2 - the one with a round of Santa-plause for all of the bargains

Reastie · 21/09/2024 11:08

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@MamaK19 aldi has its wooden toy event on 10th Oct, we got the toy kitchen from there 2yrs ago and it has generally held up well- and was so much cheaper than other brands!

@LemonTurdCart @LoveHearts69 @Dramallama24 amazing thanks everyone will wait a bit longer then and see what is in the sales 💛💛

Not particularly Christmasy, but I was very pleased to see £10 off a £40 shop on my Lidl Plus card today. Worth checking if you don’t go there often.

BadBarry · 28/09/2024 21:20

Temptation gifts have Harry Potter bits.
I discovered them from these Christmas threads a few years back, they have all sorts on there.

Search Turtle Doves Cashmere fingerless gloves on Ebay. £12.99 a pair for a lucky dip pair of seconds.

Or, 30% off on their website.

Or, the lady I use on ebay who makes them and you can pick your colour (£14)

Sorry, that was for @Oliveoily

Just had an email from next, I have been given a £10 voucher when I spend £25, whoop, for not buying for a while. I have no idea what to spend it on. I only really have teachers presents left (X2), DH and our childminder. The kids are all but done (they are very young and predictable!). That and myself of course but I'd love to nail the shopping as I'm very worried I may lose my job this winter. If anyone's seen anything good at next do shout! I've browsed on line but it seems the same sort of stuff I see everywhere (but more expensive!) failing a gift I'm buying myself a jumper 😃

Thank you @Comeoutside that was one of my other questions. I'm assuming all the cheaper brands are near enough the same and will still work with other magnetic tiles?

We have connetix, and after solid recommendations a cheaper set off Amazon. The cheaper set is almost as good as the connetix. They are on offer on Amazon at the moment. Most cheap magnetic tiles are pants, the magnets aren't strong enough and they aren't robust. So these really are very good and I would definitely recommend them if you (understandably) don't want to pay out for a brand like connetix.

We have the Desire Delux ones (and their brand of ball run) and really recommend. We've never had the big name brands and really curious what makes Connetix better at all - would love to hear further opinion on this!

Appreciate it probably won’t be in every store but picked these painting books up for my 3yo in Aldi today- reduced to 29p each! Every page has its own set of paints, just enough to add a drop of water and colour the page and they’re really sturdy, decent sized books. So impressed with the quality. They had about 5 different editions.

Perfect stocking filler.

Edited

Was really pleased with the customer service from the ebay lady so thank you so much for the recommendation - immediate refund of excess postage and sent out within 2 hours and excellent communication - half the price of turtle doves too. She also has some really nice two colour gloves.

Does anyone have any recommendations for advent calendars for a 9 year old and a 14 year old? I did jewellery last year

I am looking at pokemon for 9 year old but is so expensive! So any other ideas gratefully received!
Have my eye on a crybabies one for youngest but only want to get if I can get something similar priced for eldest.

I'm looking for a dupe of Jo Malone wild bluebell cologne. I haven't had much luck, I've looked at the suggested sites like perfume parlour and they seem to have dupes of many of the fragrances but not this one. Has anyone seen one? The Jo Malone one is out of budget but recipient happy to have a dupe.

I haven’t tried the particular one but I rate Eden Perfumes’ dupes generally and they have one called Bluebells which I think is a dupe of this

Blessedbethefruitz · 28/09/2024 23:02

Does anyone know if puppet company hand puppets ever go on sale?! I need 2 for the kids.

Is it possible to use it to buy a giftcard? Then you can use it anytime.
Well done for being nearly finished ( maybe reward yourself with a jumper from next 😂)

If you are that worried about losing your job then I would swerve the teacher gifts. So unnecessary. I have never done them and don't intend to.

I was looking at these as well but it says they have a best before date of 30 days and a use by date of 60 days on their website

Have a look at the clearance section, they have some gift possibilities.

I just had a look at these and it says on the listing best consumed within 30 days and use by 60 days.

@FizzyOranges same I didn't know if it was a bit like cheaper mimic brio train sets which are pretty much the same but I didn't think of the magnet strength.

Quidco limited opt-ins: £30 bonus on top of cashback (around 2-3%) when you spend £100 at Selfridges

Easily done if you're buying beauty or designer fragrances, I think. Can only be done 1x per user.
