Thread 2 - the one with a round of Santa-plause for all of the bargains

Reastie · 21/09/2024 11:08

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Master of Malt and The Whisky Exchange do them

Thank you. Masters of Malt were the ones I was trying to remember! But actually I think I like the look of some of the others better now.

Thank you for the Whittlefish information- didn't realise they were based in Cornwall (like me!). I went for cards at 15 for £10 (birthday and Christmas). Took the total to £25 for 10 free sheets of wrapping paper and added 20% off as a new customer. As long as you keep your total to £25 (or above) at the checkout to keep the offers.

You can also add in stamps to get over the £25. Especially with first class stamps going up on 7th October.

Oh drat!! Looks like B&M may have changed their Santa sacks completely this year - well, my store seems to have. Please by any chance has anybody seen any of the old style ones at all? There are the old style stockings and bottle bags in my local B&M [red velvet with grey fur] but no sacks. Desperately seeking a sack with the initial E for new granddaughter due on Christmas Day so in the spirit of this thread if anyone sees one and wouldn't mind obtaining and posting I would of course cover all costs and be beyond grateful. I'm also willing to help in the same way if anybody wants a stocking or bottle bag in the old design.TIA .

It says the £25 excludes stamps for the free wrapping paper (might include it for the free postage(.

There is a thread specifically for this, if you search

recklessgran · 28/09/2024 17:56

@LePetitMaman thank you so much for that - I didn't know but I will have a look and repost there.

https://magformers.co.uk/collections/magformers-mega-sale

Some "black friday" discounts on this page (they're also about 5% on TopCashBack). Definitely not the cheapest (other posters have mentioned farmfoods and tkmaxx for bargains) and I don't know about the quality from experience, but I've ordered some for DS2 so I hope they're not crap! 🫣

Some great bargains on the magformers. They are well loved here.

NotMeekNotObedient · 28/09/2024 18:00

Has anyone used coolshop.co.uk before? Not sure if it's a safe site or not? I've been eying up a castle magnatiles set. £17 cheaper than I can find elsewhere.

Sorry can't do clicky links in the app!

Anyone know where I can get the board game Hues and cues? Argos had it on sale for £18.75 but unfortunately out of stock. Dont really want to pay full price

elb1504 · 28/09/2024 18:25

Thank you for the Whistlefish posts, I didn't know anything about this site but cards look beautiful, have just ordered loads of cards with the free wrapping too!

IggyAce · 28/09/2024 18:31

I got my whistlefish order today and I’m very impressed, they are beautiful cards and excellent quality. Will definitely be using them again.

slimbysummer24 · 28/09/2024 18:34

Does anyone have any recommendations for advent calendars for a 9 year old and a 14 year old? I did jewellery last year

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 28/09/2024 19:05

@NotMeekNotObedient i used the coolshop last year. They had excellent customer service when I had a problem.

RJnomore1 · 28/09/2024 19:19

@slimbysummer24 theres a koka noodles one in home bargains which I think a 14 year old would love

ApiratesaysYarrr · 28/09/2024 19:23

Is there likely to be a pre-Xmas/Black Friday sale for Shokz, does anyone know?

Ladybaga · 28/09/2024 19:41

This toddler dj table is a great price on Very at 24.99 it's 45.49 in amazon and 55.99 on argos! Sadly my kids are past this stage and I'm looking for something similar but a bit older.

LoveHearts69 · 28/09/2024 19:48

Just wanted to say how grateful I am for this thread as it’s not even just the bargains but you’ve actually really helped with gift ideas which I find really stressful and overwhelming normally! My step dad has the gardening book coming and my mum some cashmere fingerless gloves! I’ve also ordered them both a smart game each as they love doing brain training quizzes and these look great fun! It’s the first year I feel like I’ve really got my shit together, helped by ordering a load of whistlefish cards for every occasion! Haha, Massive thanks for all the recommendations! ❤️

Rescue2024 · 28/09/2024 19:53

SHOP15 gives 15% off white fox. Can’t say I’m very impressed with their customer service though.

MaybeMrs · 28/09/2024 19:55

My Whistlefish cards arrived this week. They are beautiful. Just placed another order for £25.43.
10 birthday/occasion cards
15 Christmas Cards
1 pack of Christmas tissue paper
10 x 2 packs of Christmas paper.

Really pleased!! We won’t tell MaybeMr I’ve spent £50 on cards and paper though 😂

Oliveoily · 28/09/2024 20:04

I can't find the cashmere fingerless gloves, is there a deal on?

I ordered from coolshop years ago and was happy with my purchase. I didn’t need to return or use their customer service though.

BoysBagsShoes · 28/09/2024 20:21

Not sure if this has been posted…

  • loads of Beetlejuice clothing in Tesco at the moment, with 25% off for Clubcard members too
  • big discounts on toys, both in the toy section, which is now The Entertainer, and the reduced part too
  • lots of nice little stocking fillers that actually don’t look like tat!
