How much was your Christmas supermarket shop?

The prices are absolutely crazy this year, our supermarket shop is ridiculously expensive at £347! I have another delivery booked for New Year’s Eve but will make adjustments depending on what’s left over. We are a family of 5 not hosting Christmas dinner have the in-laws over on Christmas Eve where we will be having pizza counter pizzas with sides all of which is in the shop, the turkey/pigs/sausage meat stuff is not included in this total as is from the butchers.
AIBU to ask how much your Christmas shop was?

Did the shop today to last us until end of next week. Including alcohol, joint, all the trimmings, snacks and treats, it came to just under £130. We'll need to grab bread and milk but that should be it until next weekend. Family of 4, no visitors over Christmas.

Youcannotbeseriousreally · 21/12/2023 15:02

Bloody hell OP!!! Ours will be about £200 I think. But we have 12 on Christmas Day.

headcheffer · 21/12/2023 15:02

£360. About £60 of that is on Christmas dinner (3 courses) for 4 adults and 2 kids. Probably £100 on meals between now and Christmas Day for 2 adults 2 kids. The rest is on booze Blush for between now and 27th as we are taking loads away with us to a relatives as our contribution to them hosting for 2 days.

ActuallyChristmas · 21/12/2023 15:03

£0 because I go to local shops for some stuff and some supermarket specifics accumulated over several weeks.

Rockfordpeach · 21/12/2023 15:06

£200 but I had a £60 Asda rewards voucher to use with it so paid £140

Cosyblankets · 21/12/2023 15:07

What on earth have you bought? That's ridiculous.

Allofaflutter · 21/12/2023 15:07

Just under £500, but we have 5 kids, most teens/ twenties with partners staying too. That doesn’t include alcohol as we don’t drink but those who do bring their own. And parents coming. Seems to me it was £300 last year. We never under estimate how much teen boys eat.

Allofaflutter · 21/12/2023 15:09

Last year the teens ate 6 tins choc, 4 boxes of biscuits and 100 bags of crisps.

Allofaflutter · 21/12/2023 15:09

and drank 20 bottles of coke.

Crazymadchickenlady · 21/12/2023 15:14

Mine was £179 but that included the whole weeks shopping and loo roll and dishwasher tablets for a family of four adults.

Pinkyponker · 21/12/2023 15:15

About 310! For four adults, two kids 🙈
Including 6 bottles of prosecco but really nothing too extravagant. No idea why it is so bloody expensive 🥴

Kim82 · 21/12/2023 15:16

£254 from Tesco. I’m doing tea and cake for my sisters and their dc on Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner for 7, potentially 8 people too (most of whom are adults - there is only 1 person under the age of 16). There is lots of wine and beer and a bottle of champagne included in that price too so I don’t think it’s too bad really.

Allofaflutter · 21/12/2023 15:16

I will say the older kids and partners are paying for some of it but I was shocked how much it all had gone up by.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 21/12/2023 15:17

£200 for food & drink over the Christmas period. But we are going out for dinner on Christmas day so the food doesn't include Christmas Dinner.

SnowRoomAtTheInn · 21/12/2023 15:18

£350 not including booze, but including meat and household stuff (loo roll, laundry stuff etc).

Family of four (2 adults, 2 teens) and will be entertaining on at least one day.

It is a lot of money, but I scrimp and save on food most of the year and I look forward to the food more than most of the other stuff associated with Christmas.

MintJulia · 21/12/2023 15:18

I'm up to £90 groceries so far, and still got bread, veggies and cream to buy. Plus maybe a bottle of wine. Probably £110 for two,

That's twice my usual weekly spend but there'll be plenty of left overs for the following week.

Christmassss · 21/12/2023 15:21

£400 for five adults that doesn’t include alcohol as we buy that separately.

Augustus40 · 21/12/2023 15:22

£115 approx for the general weekly shop plus Xmas. Only me and ds.

JadziaD · 21/12/2023 15:22

Yup, it was INSANE. The actual online delivery was £350. I bought meat and booze separately and that was easily another £150. And I've been picking up small bits and pieces along the way as well so who knows?

Admittedly, we're hosting Christmas for 12 people AND have family arriving this weekend who will not be staying with us but in a local hotel so I've assumed we'll be feeding them a fair bit - even if it's just light suppers after a day sightseeing or whatever. But it means I've upped things like nice soft drinks, chocolates, biscuits etc and bought loads of things like par-cooked bread/rolls and crackers and cheese for spontaneous feeding of the masses!

YorkshirePuddingsGreatestFan · 21/12/2023 15:23

£70 - includes a turkey crown, pigs in blankets, veg and a Christmas pudding.

Haven't bought any treats or alcohol as we can't afford it.

sparkedsparkle · 21/12/2023 15:25

I did a shop at beginning of dec to cover us with foods up until Xmas but included Yorkshire puddings, Xmas condiments and ingredients for baking festive treats with the kids £120

Picked up meat from butchers the other day £150 which will see in in until probably mid feb😂

Farm shop veg haul for Xmas probably about £4

Cost of food for Xmas day itself probably only £50 😂

Natsku · 21/12/2023 15:26

400 euros but that did include a fair few presents (Lidl) and dinners for the rest of this week. And I bought BIL's ham for him, for some reason.
Did not include alcohol though, I just buy a bottle now and then throughout the year and stick in my booze cupboard for Christmas so don't have that extra expense when doing the Christmas shop

Colinswheels · 21/12/2023 15:26

I have spent £100 on M&S order, plus another £75 in M&S today on cheese / canapés etc. That's for 6 adults and 2 children, no alcohol included as already had plenty. Also have an £80 Sainsbury's shop booked for delivery on Sunday but that's mainly normal household stuff rather than specifically for Christmas.

Colinswheels · 21/12/2023 15:29

Oh and about £10 on emergency ice cream in case the kids don't like the pudding.

TheHound86 · 21/12/2023 15:29

About £80-100. That’s 3 days worth of dinners for 5, some fancy soft drinks, some snacks and treats and a handful of essentials.
