How much was your Christmas supermarket shop?

The prices are absolutely crazy this year, our supermarket shop is ridiculously expensive at £347! I have another delivery booked for New Year’s Eve but will make adjustments depending on what’s left over. We are a family of 5 not hosting Christmas dinner have the in-laws over on Christmas Eve where we will be having pizza counter pizzas with sides all of which is in the shop, the turkey/pigs/sausage meat stuff is not included in this total as is from the butchers.
AIBU to ask how much your Christmas shop was?

We did our big Sainsbury’s shop this morning and it came to £302 - DH nearly had a heart attack! I’d already bought stuffing, pigs in blankets, turkey gravy in M&S last week, we already had alcohol and my mum’s bought the turkey and one dessert. We go to my mum’s on Christmas Eve and MIL on Boxing Day and there’ll be 7 here on Christmas Day. I’m not setting foot in another food shop before 28th!

Wanttobeok · 21/12/2023 17:10

£370 but it's for 9 people for a while week- actually that doesn't include Turkey or alcohol so more!

MikeRafone · 21/12/2023 17:11

Just the main course for Xmas dinner is costing £60 for 2 of us 😂
but overall I’ve added bits in the trolley for the last 4 weeks. Items such as cheese, biscuits for cheese, pudding, ice cream red current jelly, pickles, champagne, wine etc.

shopped Tuesday for most of the remaining items and it was £68, today another £16 for Xmas Eve meal box and pudding. Couldn’t get the meal box previously as the best before date was to soon

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 21/12/2023 17:11

So far I've spent £60 (Asda) and £80 (Sainsbos) then will do the Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Family Party shop at Tesco tomorrow. Joy!

MikeRafone · 21/12/2023 17:13

Oh and the lady in front of me just now, had 4 M&S shopping bags in trolley and a scattering of other items lose - £261

Tacotortoise · 21/12/2023 17:14

C£200 and that's just for 4 days! 😭

Did the shop today to last us until end of next week. Including alcohol, joint, all the trimmings, snacks and treats, it came to just under £130. We'll need to grab bread and milk but that should be it until next weekend. Family of 4, no visitors over Christmas.

I've just spent £140 for literally just me. it'll probably last about 6 ish days.

tennesseewhiskey1 · 21/12/2023 17:16

About £300 without booze. That will come on Friday - will come to about £150 I think. We are 4 adults plus two kids.

Tacotortoise · 21/12/2023 17:17

Meat arrived today and I've realised I've bought the world's tiniest, most expensive piece of venison! Modest price increase from last year, half the size (but cunningly illustrated by a picture of the full size piece so I didn't realise. 😭 😭

JustFannyingAboot · 21/12/2023 17:22

No more than £20. It's just the 2 of us this year and we don't drink. We also don't have traditional Xmas dinners, so it will be a curry (already have the ingredients), lots of chocolatey things (which some have already been gifted to us for Xmas) and cheese where we will splash out a little. Can't wait. Some of the numbers in this thread are eye watering.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 21/12/2023 17:23

140 but that will last us until the weekend before new year.
Family of 4 with a fat dog 🤣.
No visitors but plenty in if we get some.

Whattodo112222 · 21/12/2023 17:25

£80 but this is bringing party food, snacks, drinks and sweets and gluten free things and pudding to our hosts Xmas.. I did luckily have £50 in club card points which I've saved up so shop actually cost £30!

Smithstreet · 21/12/2023 17:27

£180 (well hopefully as is coming tomorrow night so hoping all there). That is food for 8 on Christmas day and food for 10 Saturday night (although that is a curry not roast so no big joint needed) and all meals in between till next saturday. Some alcohol and lots of snacks and christmas treats.

Morethanthis71 · 21/12/2023 17:31

Just under 190, minus the turkey, we did ours in Aldi and Lidl today. We are 5 adults and 1 teenager. This should last us up until 29th.

NoItsStillNighttimeDarling · 21/12/2023 17:32

£175 in Aldi - no alcohol and we aren't hosting but I did buy a couple of joints of meat. I did get dishwasher tabs, washing detergent etc too

Rina66 · 21/12/2023 17:39

£300 in Waitrose today, two other shops of about £120 each, Costco & Sainsburys on non perishables and drinks, 12 here on Christmas Day & Boxing day. Did include olive oil, pulling crackers, champagne, all the chocs, ham, lamb, prawns, blinis, smoked salmon, small tub of caviar, just the ingredients to make a pecan pie cheesecake have come in at over £25! Batteries, figs, good cheese, pate, dips, nuts, nibbles, fresh herbs, all the veg. No turkey yet or pigs in blankets, veg mash, salad, bread or yorkies - so probably another £100 to go. Every year we say we won't go mad and then we do, I was shocked at the £300 in Waitrose today, I wasn't expecting that.

Screwballs · 21/12/2023 17:41

Where are all the fridge pic fudgers complaining about bad taste?! 😂

I have no idea, DP does all our food shopping because I loathe it, so probably an absolute fortune. Although I did convince him to get chicken instead of turkey as no one this side is remotely bothered by turkey, so two large chickens for £15 instead of the M&S crown he was initially eyeing up for £85.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 21/12/2023 17:47

£75 in Sainsburys and £75 I'm Waitrose (paid with Nectar points for the Sainsbury's stuff) there's only me and DD. Bought a lot of nuts and dried fruits / chestnuts / goose fat over the past couple of months, so it's mainly fresh stuff.

LeviOsaNotLeviosaa · 21/12/2023 17:47

Our shop is being delivered this evening and came in at £148, but £10 is booze for DH that got subbed, so it's going back. So £140 ish. That's a week's worth of food, with a couple of Christmas bits. Not much though to be honest.

I've added about £5 of stuff to my weekly shop every week since November, so that's about £40, and we spent £100 in M&S, though I used vouchers I got from answering surveys to pay for £75 of it. Lastly, our Food to Order stuff from Sainsbury's came to £50, that's to be collected on Saturday. In total, our Christmas food (dinner, party food, snacks etc) will have cost us around £125 of actual money. But worth near to £200! That's a shocking amount really, considering we're a family of 5!

kwetu · 21/12/2023 17:50

Our final tally will be in the region of 300-350, inc dinner with all trimmings for 9/10 people plus napkins crackers n bits bobs.

kimchio · 21/12/2023 17:51

£153

ghostyslovesheets · 21/12/2023 17:53

Delivery coming Sat - £85

Like other, though, I have being buying for a few weeks so already have booze, snacks, party bits (in freezer) etc

ploikj · 21/12/2023 17:54

Final total will be £350ish, 4 of us, for about 5 days. I enjoy splurging at Xmas, the cost is largely due to alcohol, festive food to order specials and chocolate!

bakewellbride · 21/12/2023 17:56

£90 roughly but it's just for us - 2 adults and 2 young kids. Sainsbury's.

Marwoodsbigbreak · 21/12/2023 17:57

£153 for three adults and one greedy cat.
