I know there’s one every year and I appreciate some people find it distasteful but if that’s you, please just look away. I know so many people love it and I want to see all your fridges!! I have to go to waitrose tonight and then have meat being delivered on Friday so will post mine then🎄

I hope every single person that has commented about how awful this mn Christmas tradition is has taken the opportunity to write to their MP and raise their concerns about the ever increasing cost of living and spiralling usage of food banks etc? No, I thought not. It's just all empty virtue signaling.

This fridge thread has been going on for years and every single year, from the year it started ( pre Covid, pre cost of living etc) petite have always declared it to be distasteful. Where do you draw the line? Should it be illegal to post ANY holiday photos unless you got the train to a uk based holiday, only showed in school holidays if your children are school age? Are obese people monsters for eating more than their fair share while people starve? What about those that drive gas guzzling Jeeps while poor children walk to school in the rain in hokey shoes?

Get over yourselves. Some people have nice things than others. Some people have more, some people have less.

Those that share photos of a fridge full of Waitrose and booths festive food are not lessening my enjoyment of my bargain basement Lidl pork joint , "saved from landfill" veg and sides or cheap Iceland pudding. It doesn't work that way .

All those who like to see strangers' fridge contents, do you ask to see what's in the fridges of your family and friends when you visit them at Christmas, and if not, why not?

Well yes of course, and I also knock door to door in the street.

🤣🤣🤣

AppleKatie · 20/12/2023 18:08

I love a Christmas fridge but I agree it’s a touch early, I’m worried about the sell by dates on some of your leftovers. Christmas is a long game after all 😉

PomsRun · 20/12/2023 18:23

Oh I like this thread each year- nice to see what treats people have.
Just avoid the thread if you don’t like it.

Jacfrost · 20/12/2023 18:38

@glassyhag I don't need to write to my socially conscious labour MP to urge him to take action on food banks. I'll just vote labour again as I've always done.

You can't compare it to pictures of holidays as holidays are not a basic necessity for survival. Whilst there are millions of people in the UK who cannot afford to eat posting photos of groaning fridges is distasteful. When you genuinely believe something it's not virtue signalling

I think we are all more aware now and this type of thread is not really ok.

Well that's your opinion. I disagree entirely. Merry Christmas everyone.

Leave the thread then. Hide it, report it, go away, scroll past.

piscofrisco · 20/12/2023 18:55

What sorts of thread are ok then? Presumably anything to do with Christmas presents/holidays/buying or selling a house/anything style or beauty/positive threads about relationships/ all must be banned on the grounds that not everyone can afford them/have them?

Nor did I when I posted! I expected it to just be filled with nice food and people sharing christmassy thoughts🙈

Yay I love these threads! Hopefully all the people telling us how terrible we are will go to sleep soon.

I'll post mine on Saturday once I've finished my fridge Tetris!

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/12/2023 19:01

But food is a basic need and when people are using food banks, showing off your stuffed fridge is a bit naff.

Hastheslotharrivedyet · 20/12/2023 19:03

YaWeeFurryBastard · 20/12/2023 17:34

It’s not “cancelling all fun and joy” it’s having a modicum of self awareness that it might be a little bit off to publicly delight in your busting fridges when others are struggling to afford food, which is a basic human right. Different if it’s luxuries but these are fridges full of the basics, with a few Christmas things.

But I suppose you could say it’s similar to people posting holiday photos on Instagram. Some will always have more than others

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/12/2023 19:04

Holidays are luxury, food is not.

43ontherocksporfavor · 20/12/2023 19:04

Holidays are luxury, food is not.

That’s true

Tippletoomany · 20/12/2023 19:07

People work flipping hard to get to fill their fridge at Christmas. I know there are so many people working so hard and still struggling to make ends meet but people having money and choosing to spend it on food is no different from people having money and choosing to spend it on a car or a holiday.

The fact we love to talk about food and christmas is not going to change the fact the government are allowing people, who work hard, (see doctors, nurses, etc…) to not get paid enough. We all pay our taxes and I donate to my food bank and I’m sure many others do. Us posting this is not going to resolve the issues of the country. As someone said before, writing to MP’s and empowering change will.

It happens every year.

It wouldn't be a Christmas fridge thread without the moaners Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

Housing is a basic need - by this logic posting anything at all related to your own house is not ok?
What about all the Xmas food shows in TV - are they not ok either? Are you writing to the TV people to complain?
Utterly ridiculous. Just don't look if it bothers you. This thread literally harms no one.

StupidStunts · 20/12/2023 19:11

Tbh - this type of thread helps me personally with my mental health over Xmas when sometimes things are tough.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 20/12/2023 12:26

I won't be sharing a photo but I can try and describe the smell upon opening the door to the newly renamed cheese vault if you like?

I currently have this in my fridge, came in a cheese hamper yesterday. It stinks so much.

MadamVastra · 20/12/2023 19:10

Nothing in S&B in relation to expensive clothing, I'd imagine. Clothing is also a basic need, after all. 🤷‍♀️

The holier than thou posters who appear on these threads every year are boring and tiresome, frankly. Bring out the fridges!

StupidStunts · 20/12/2023 19:13

If it were a thread full of photos of people wantonly wasting food - bathing in it, or any of the other grotesque shit people post of YouTube for instance the moaners would be justified, but this is just literally people's fridge with their food they will eat over Xmas. Honestly.

FridgeWanker · 20/12/2023 19:14

I am not a fridge wanker

a lot of people seem to be however.
