I know there’s one every year and I appreciate some people find it distasteful but if that’s you, please just look away. I know so many people love it and I want to see all your fridges!! I have to go to waitrose tonight and then have meat being delivered on Friday so will post mine then🎄

Saturday is when I can play fridge Tetris and join in! 🎄🎅🏻

I love this thread each year. I just 🙄 at all the 'tasteless and tone deaf' posts.

Inextremis · 20/12/2023 15:18

My shopping's not getting here until Friday, but I'll post a pic then. DH has announced that the centre shelf, which has a wine rack thing, is reserved for his cans of Guinness. I look forward to playing food Tetris to enable this ;)

JadziaD · 20/12/2023 15:22

As I was unpacking my shopping, I was thinking about this earlier and that I could contribute... .

But we actually just got a small second fridge which is loaded up with soft drinks currently and the main fridge doesn't look nearly as full as you'd expect post Christmas shop - partly as no drinks in there and partly because I needed the extra fridge space for when I take the meat out of the freezer and have pre-made things on Christmas Eve. Plus for all the desserts which SIL is bringing! So mine looks a bit sad actually right now even though I've done ALL the Christmas food shopping! Maybe I'll take a picture on Christmas Eve when the joint is in there and the tart I'm making for the vegetarians and the gravy is defrosted and the onion sauce is made.... Grin oh, and the wine has replaced the extra milk/apple/orange juice we'll drink between now and then!

CherryJones1 · 20/12/2023 15:29

So nobody is allowed to hint they have actual food in case 'poor people' are upset or offended?

Makes it quite clear what the thread is about so don't open it to moan that you only have one chicken leg and 3 carrots to feed 8 or whatever

Too early for me OP! I have all my cheese and drinks but not the main stuff just yet

hangingonfordearlife1 · 20/12/2023 15:29

i came here for the photos and found none

Candycurrantbun · 20/12/2023 15:31

'Makes it quite clear what the thread is about so don't open it to moan that you only have one chicken leg and 3 carrots to feed 8 or whatever'

Maybe it's attitudes like this that make this thread tone deaf.

snowitall · 20/12/2023 15:32

there are much worse, more materialistic, out of reach and more braggy things on the internet than a full fridge, see: 95% of Instagram.

QforCucumber · 20/12/2023 15:34

While I do agree there @Candycurrantbun re the Attitudes, I also love this thread every year, WE will still be the ones buying all the 15p veg at Tesco on Saturday for our dinner. You can be skint but also like the look of someone else's feast!

Do you haunt Style and Beauty and berate all posters looking to buy expensive clothing / handbags etc? If not, why not?

Loads of people use loyalty points for Christmas food. Or save a little every week all year. Or spread the cost by buying during the year (ambient goods for instance). Just because you have a full fridge, doesn't mean you're rolling in it or gluttonous.

captainhampton · 20/12/2023 15:45

I came here for the photos!!
it isn't tone deaf at all - I save up my Nectar points and use it for ALL Christmas food.

We only have a Sainsburys supermarket locally so shopping there isn't a stealth brag either since most of my stuff is "Aldi price match" and the local Spar is much more expensive...

Looking forward to the pics 😊 mine is being collected (for free) on Friday. 🎅

Agree! I have been saving my ASDA rewards points and converted them to vouchers to cover most of the 'big shop'.
I haven't had a fancy holiday this year, big night out or even bought many new clothes. What I have had is a bloody terrible year of health scares, grief and uncertainty.
I enjoy this thread every year and if taking a picture of my fridge to celebrate the fact that I have pulled my shit together and have been able to plan and provide for my family makes me a twat.... then twats rejoice and unite!
I will share my fridge on Saturday once I have unpacked the order.

Hopingforno2in2024 · 20/12/2023 16:04

I will share on Saturday when I have got everything. Love this thread every year.

Glitterybee · 20/12/2023 16:39

YES!!!!!!! 🙌🎄

My favourite Christmas thread each year! Although it’s too early for my food shop.

sorry if this offends anyone but as it has been said before - look away if that’s the case

TheShellBeach · 20/12/2023 16:40

Okay, this is ours.

Just three of us, and I do love Christmas pudding and cream

Bit of an early shop this year for me, my parents are arriving tomorrow for an early Christmas visit. Plan is Lamb and potatoes on Christmas Eve and chicken dinner on Christmas (which I think the 3 year old might eat).

Merry Christmas!

Gosh, sorry I’m usually all for people posting photos of nice things on social media but this just feels a bit different, especially in current times. Can’t quite put my finger on it but I think it’s something along the lines of that most of us at some point will look at someone else’s holiday/car/whatever photos and think gosh I wish I could afford that luxury, but the thought of someone looking at these pics and thinking gosh I wish I could afford all that food makes me very sad.

Did you stand the roddas up specially for the photo? Nicely done!

Just realised I don’t have clotted cream! Useful thread for reminders.

Caitcheshire · 20/12/2023 17:09

I love this thread. Currently full of covid, fair chance I won’t be able to spend Christmas day with family due to vulnerable relations - which will mean the day on my own ……but I’m loving the fact I get to nosey into peoples fridges!

Zero envy from me, zero offence taken - just love to see people enjoying what they can in a pretty shit year - if that’s M&S prepared everything or asdas 15p sprouts.

Just don’t bloody read the thread if you want to find yet another flimsy excuse to take offence for the sake of it or to prove to complete strangers online just how socially responsible you are.

HappyCamperTent · 20/12/2023 17:12

Fuck sake!!… People just love to be offended on this forum!

I think it’s you that’s tone deaf 🙄

Hollyhead · 20/12/2023 17:13

How can be something be tone deaf when the publishing platform (mumsnet) has no defined tone. It’s not ‘poverty U.K. forum’

Stop virtue signalling and fuck off so we can enjoy fridge porn - and no I can’t afford a big Christmas fridge shop but I still like looking at them.

Comedycook · 20/12/2023 17:14

@TheShellBeach how much cream do you use?!

Current times?… Not affording the same kinds of food as others is not a new thing

Agree. It's horrid. Around 3 million people in the UK use a food bank.
