Hi everyone.

I know there are threads that go on RE Christmas present ideas, but personally I find it hard to skim through these to get ideas (as it descends into chat IMO). I also think it would be good to have a thread for only adult present ideas/ deals.

I would love for this thread to only have links and descriptions posted so its easier to scroll through and find good ideas (no comments)Grin

I'll go first - here are some of my ideas already:
Chillys bottle currently £4 off
Big bobble hats (not on offer but very cool idea IMO)
Xmas bauble with family faces in
Powder (fire safe) candle
(not linked) but portable chargers are handy to have
These Lulu lemon mens boxers which I bought for my partner to do sport and he absolutely swears by them
Adult lego - specifically linked this one as I think it's incredibleGrin

Any reciprocated ideas/help hugely appreciated 🙏

Nonya Secrets are the most delicious asian sauces I've ever tasted. Honestly I could drink the sweet chilli sauce. They're very small as have only been going a short while, but if you follow there Facebook site then there are recipes too.

Have bought this for DH https://www.waterstones.com/book/unruly/david-mitchell/9781405953177

CK boxer shorts for DS 22

That is it so far.

I have promised DS a pair of F1’s.

I will get him a Gregg gift card.

It was easier when he was small and tat from China impressed him. 😂

WasThereAnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 30/09/2023 14:19

Oh and Hugo Boss t-shirt for DS.

You can get Gregg's gift cards? Wow. That's one each for all 4 teen/adult kids

Work2live · 30/09/2023 14:22

Apple AirTags are so useful, we put one in our luggage when we went on holiday this year and enjoyed tracking it around the airport 🤣

For Baileys fans, Coole Swan is a gorgeous alternative.

We decided a few years ago to stop present buying for adults apart from our adult DC. It’s so freeing and no tat!

Great for you guys but not much help on a thread like this!

WasThereAnotherTroyforHertoBurn · 30/09/2023 14:45

We stopped buying for siblings and nieces and nephews a few years ago, when we were all younger and child free and having Christmas dinner in the family home, someone was put in charge of table presents for everyone, max value in those days £10.

We then had to nominate a charity that each couple were going to donate to the value of £50, every one got to choose their favourite charity and once every four years one household was in charge of table presents.

Then we all went and had children and it became easier to stay in our own homes. 🙄

My DP loves Pokemon so I got him one of these with our dog on. He loves it:

My DP's keen to get into fitness, I'm thinking of booking him an hour session with a PT to get him started as one of his Xmas presents

@clpsmum Sure it is, maybe time to rethink the whole stress of thinking what to buy adults who are capable of buying what they need.

Where's the fun it that? I like to give presents to the adults more than the children tbh. They're often over look and under appreciated nice to show them I care and appreciate them

43ontherocksporfavor · 30/09/2023 15:07

I find fun in the getting together and enjoying each other’s company more than gift giving and receiving. In this climate too it’s a winner all round.

LoverOfSushi · 30/09/2023 15:08

@43ontherocksporfavor If presents are a stress to you then you're probably right to not do them.

This thread if for people who like to give gifts and just want to see what kind of things people have found.

Personally I love to receive gifts at xmas (no matter how "naff"). I never really buy myself anything nice/ unnecessary during the year as I feel too guilty spending money on myself. Love it when I come to xmas and suddenly have a few nice/more premium items (Lush bath bombs or a few nice sets of underwear)...🤗

Some of these ideas sound awful to me. An expensive pair of boxer shorts is such a crap present. They might be expensive but I've never seen anyone get excited for socks/boxer shorts etc.

Fab. I’ll tell DH to take them off his wish list then Hmm

chesterlestreet · 30/09/2023 10:06

Thanks for this great thread. And everyone is different so all ideas welcome. My mid 20s son is in a professional role earning ok money but would never buy himself the expensive (ck) boxer trunks he loves. He would be disappointed not to get some at Christmas

Same with my 20-year old.

Why are you on this thread then?

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 30/09/2023 15:17

In our family people either give nothing (great!) or crazily expensive stuff. Personally I’ve decided to give things that people need, just fancier/different versions. So, things like joke toilet paper, extra plush heated blanket, wreath subscription etc.

LoverOfSushi · 30/09/2023 15:18

To avoid derailing this thread - I've just thought that a clip on reading light for bookworms would be an ideal present especially when they have a partner who falls asleep way before them

@Raincloudsonasunnyday I agree with the more boujee versions of what they're used to is a good idea - hence my suggestion of a cillys bottle. Wouldn't buy one for myself but would love to receive one

I always give cash. I can't bear the thought of spending money on stuff that sits unused.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/09/2023 15:46

I always try to get a gift receipt. Especially if it's something expensive.

WoollyRosebud · 30/09/2023 15:51

I give my adult sister a potted up Amaryllis bulb each Christmas. Is a throw back to when our DM was alive and did this. I get regular updates and photographs of the Amaryllis’s progress, whether it’s a double budder etc. Doesn’t need to be expensive get from supermarkets or if you wish to spend more a garden centre.

DM used to give her sisters a The Lady magazine calendar tea towel every year as their Mum used to do for them. I found lots of them when I cleared the house. Very useful and happily using them up.

OrangesOnlyFruit · 30/09/2023 15:55

It's a shame there aren't enough medals in the world for all the people who don't buy adults presents, just give to charity and/or enjoy each other's company instead, isn't it?
