Christmas Present Idea Dump (ADULTS)!

LoverOfSushi · 29/09/2023 13:06

Hi everyone.

I know there are threads that go on RE Christmas present ideas, but personally I find it hard to skim through these to get ideas (as it descends into chat IMO). I also think it would be good to have a thread for only adult present ideas/ deals.

I would love for this thread to only have links and descriptions posted so its easier to scroll through and find good ideas (no comments)Grin

I'll go first - here are some of my ideas already:
Chillys bottle currently £4 off
Big bobble hats (not on offer but very cool idea IMO)
Xmas bauble with family faces in
Powder (fire safe) candle
(not linked) but portable chargers are handy to have
These Lulu lemon mens boxers which I bought for my partner to do sport and he absolutely swears by them
Adult lego - specifically linked this one as I think it's incredibleGrin

Any reciprocated ideas/help hugely appreciated 🙏

EDIT: please don't comment to follow the thread but instead click 'watch thread'

Does anyone have any good ideas for “weird booze”? Basically, DH really likes trying weird spirits/liqueurs/etc (stuff that they sell in dusty shelves in corner shops). Is there anywhere that would sell a selection box? I don’t want fancy artisanal stuff necessary but things like a little bottle of Parma Violet gin, one of liquorice vodka, one of balsam aquavit, etc.

I don't know how weird it is, but when I was a young adult in the US, I used to love Gold Schnapps (it tastes like cinnamon chewing gum).

Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur 70cl

Often called "the one with the gold in it," Goldschlager is practically a household name, a Swiss cinnamon schnapps with gold flakes floating around inside the bottle. Hot and spicy, it's a favourite for a variety of drinks, many with politicall

Gosh I'm really getting into this thread now!

Thanks for the link! I could probably put together a selection myself from there.

That looks amazing, thank you!

you're welcome! I remember doing shots of it ... and then pretty much not remembering much else haha

there are little gold flakes floating at the bottom, which I always thought was pretty cool

Yes! I have them on now (horrible excema on my hands). I’m not in the UK but I read about them on MN and ordered grey ones. Then I had to order for my mum, dd and ds. They are really nice.

VouisLuitton · 30/09/2023 18:34

I’ve just ordered one of these for DH: (Ember Smart Mug)

I have been waiting ages for them to go on sale so I’m very happy. Great gift particularly for someone who WFH!

@Slipslidinginthefray
Husband is bald and it does a really close shave. You can adjust it to be longer of course but check the settings, different brands have different settings

Love the thread! I’m pregnant and currently due around Christmas so trying to get presents sorted. I’m impressed others are starting so early.

Ive had compliments about Harris Gin. It’s not something you can buy regularly in the shops and so seems a bit more special and the bottle is pretty: https://harrisdistillery.com/
You get nice gift sets.

Thanks for board game suggestions. I’m especially interested in simple fun ones for adults as with young children when we get time to ourselves we don’t want something with too complicated rules. If you like the game Pandemic the Iberia version is well designed. I’m considering that as a present.

Do you post within Europe?

TallulahG · 30/09/2023 18:52

These seconds were SO popular on the christmas boards in MN last year, I think half of us bought them! (They add new ones all the time). I don't know why the 3 I ordered for gifts plus 1 for myself were seconds as they looked great to me, one had a wonky label, that's all.

I love mine and so does DW, but I wouldn't pay full price for them.

It's a shame there aren't enough medals in the world for all the people who don't buy adults presents, just give to charity and/or enjoy each other's company instead, isn't it?

Oh for goodness sake! DONT come on a thread about finding adults presents if you don't like it. Mumsnet we need a scrooge emoji for individuals who feel entitled enough to put their thoughts about NOT buying presents on this thread. Just leave us alone! gahhh!

No links as it would be amazing if more people bought local or from small businesses. Maybe something handmade? As a maker this time of year can make or break me. Maker/craft/creative markets are fantastic (not crappy tat). Every sale means the world to me.

Whilst I wholeheartedly agree with you (and go around my local centres looking) the truth is that most of us work full time and ideas are wonderful. I bought my mil an amazing wrap from a local producer along with a gorgeous dog clasp (of her favourite breed) from Etsy. If I get an idea from this thread of which there is a local version I will indeed go local. But local can't provide everything (unfortunately 😪)

Also just remembered there is a Facebook group called 'Not on Amazon' and its a big group of small crafters. I bought things like bespoke garden ornaments and beeswax wraps last year.

Best contribution so far. Whilst I've loved the ideas flowing - the idea of not giving more to amazon is great. Thank you.

MysteryBelle · 30/09/2023 19:10

The Lego set is really cool.

Hedjwitch · 30/09/2023 19:11

Turtle doves wrist warmers are fab. Wear them all winter,as does my mother. Really recommend them

MysteryBelle · 30/09/2023 19:11

I love this!

Presents that I have given/received in the past that were popular:

Coffee bean subscription (Extract Roasters or Rave are both good). This year I am getting us both a 2hr coffee making lesson at a local shop instead.

Photo jigsaw puzzle. Photobox make them with Ravensberger. Always decent discounts around Black Friday. We also always get photo calendars for grandparents with photos of the grandkids for throughout the year.

Personalised titleist golf balls. I got ones that said “I’m not lost. I’m hiding from ‘recipients name’”

And my favourite present. Great present for book lovers that isn’t a book and they have a sale on at the minute: https://wellreadcompany.com/

I love this!

Tried to order but it says it doesn’t ship to my address even though I can select my country..

MysteryBelle · 30/09/2023 19:18

I didn’t click on it, so I don’t know. Maybe the person who posted it will see your comment and look into it.

LoverOfSushi · 30/09/2023 19:23

As a smaller company as well I LOVE this shop - they do loads of notebooks made from old magazines (tintin, scooby doo, Monopoly money).... really good quality too!!

Thanks for this thread, I’ve bookmarked a few things already. Last year one of my best bought presents was a Lego bride and groom for my son and future DIL which they made on Christmas Day. They got married this year and the Lego figures were proudly displayed by the cake. Just in case anyone has a family wedding coming up. I also got beanie hats with a head torch built in from a recommendation on MN last year, also well received for the dog walkers in the family.

He made a little voucher/token thing himself and gave me it in an envelope to open, and then picked it up a couple of days later. But we are sort of local, and they have only recently started postal hires. But I guess you could do it just before so he has it for the whole of the Christmas period. It came in a plastic crate which would have been wrappable but it was heavy!

Thank you. Unfortunately not local so will need the delivery option - will give the logistics some more thought!
