Christmas Present Idea Dump (ADULTS)!

Hi everyone.

I know there are threads that go on RE Christmas present ideas, but personally I find it hard to skim through these to get ideas (as it descends into chat IMO). I also think it would be good to have a thread for only adult present ideas/ deals.

I would love for this thread to only have links and descriptions posted so its easier to scroll through and find good ideas (no comments)Grin

I'll go first - here are some of my ideas already:
Chillys bottle currently £4 off
Big bobble hats (not on offer but very cool idea IMO)
Xmas bauble with family faces in
Powder (fire safe) candle
(not linked) but portable chargers are handy to have
These Lulu lemon mens boxers which I bought for my partner to do sport and he absolutely swears by them
Adult lego - specifically linked this one as I think it's incredibleGrin

Any reciprocated ideas/help hugely appreciated 🙏

@WoollyRosebud I picked a double budded Amaryllis up from IKEA last year very cheaply. Lots of money left over for a pretty pot.

Needmorelego · 30/09/2023 15:59

@squareyedannie but then what do they spend that cash on? If they are treating themselves to something with it why not ask them for a wish list of things they'd like as a treat?
That way you wouldn't be buying anything "unused".

well received and well used presents I have given have been

oddballs pants,

hand held massage gun ( used regularly by DS and his housemates)

personalised Heinz ketchup bottle
https://heinztohome.co.uk/personalised.list

Spicery spice mix collections - https://www.thespicery.com/

coasters with photos of the dog

DS loves making stuff - I bought him a basic leather tool kit plus a bundle of scrap leather of eBay to practice with. ( he paid it back to me by making me a coin purse and jewellery roll)

other DS loves cooking so he gets a decent knife to add to his collection.

student DS has liked shorts / sliders / T-shirts from Aldi or Greggs ( an anti posh brands student thing!)

Op this is a fantastic thread! Just bought three suggestions! Chillys outdoor cutlery , velvetiser and juicer

squareyedannie · 30/09/2023 16:07

@Needmorelego I could but again, it's just stuff. I'm also a bit of a Bah Humbug and whenever I ask my family what they want they always say, surprise me.

Needmorelego · 30/09/2023 16:32

@squareyedannie for "surprise me" I would buy a choc Santa (usually £1) and 3 paperback novels from The Works (3 for £6). That way it's not much of your money spent. Books are easy to pass on once read - or not read - and (if no allergies etc) the choc Santa will be eaten by Boxing Day.
If they actually would like something specific then they should open their mouth and say something !
All this "surprise me" nonsense is what creates unwanted gifts and all the moaning Mumsnet threads on Christmas Day 😂

@clpsmum Sure it is, maybe time to rethink the whole stress of thinking what to buy adults who are capable of buying what they need.

That’s not the point though….

Of course they can buy it.
If I buy something to my parents, who are much more wealthy than me, it’s not because they can’t afford to buy said stuff. It’s to find something that they will bring them pleasure and they might not thought about.

eg years ago I bought my dad a shirt in dark raspberry colour. Something he would never have bought himself. He was happy to wear 1- something different and 2- very proud of the positive comments he got. For ever telling people ‘Yes it’s nice isn’t it? My daughter chose it for me’.

RedAndWhiteCarnations · 30/09/2023 16:48

@Eve ive had the spicers advent calendar/box set before and I really enjoyed them. It gave the whole family the opportunity to try new dishes.

One issue for me is when you find a mix you really like and they don’t sell it on the website 😢😢

Needmorelego · 30/09/2023 16:53

@clpsmum not all adults are "capable of buying what they need though" - financial reasons, access to shops etc.

Anyone with a husband or son who's baldy this has done my husband really well and great since he seems to have a bobbly head! https://barbarossabrothers.com/products/smoothking-head-shaver-manscaper-in-black
There are cheaper versions on Amazon too that are just as good

Is this only if you want completely shaved head? Will it do eg a number 2 all over?

nopuppiesallowed · 30/09/2023 17:17

@LoverOfSushi I've just ordered three of those little reading lights! Thank you.

Great for you guys but not much help on a thread like this!

Hilarious!

LillyLeaf · 30/09/2023 17:32

No links as it would be amazing if more people bought local or from small businesses. Maybe something handmade? As a maker this time of year can make or break me. Maker/craft/creative markets are fantastic (not crappy tat). Every sale means the world to me.

Shakenbutbarelystirred · 30/09/2023 17:32

@WoollyRosebud do the bulbs only flower once? Or does your sister now have dozens of Amaryllises (Amaryyllii?)
I was given one for Christmas and it was lovely, but I am quite stressed as I think the giver is going to expect me to look after it for ever and see it year after year….

OhMyFriend · 30/09/2023 17:36

My recommendation is the board game Chameleon https://bigpotato.co.uk/products/the-chameleon It’s a really excellent game for teens and adults.

I’m looking for somewhere to buy interesting bird feeders or bird food- not RSPB as I’ve looked in there. Something out of the ordinary.

For those suggesting Lego - my husband hired the Titanic set for me last year from Chorley Bricks. It was great as we could enjoy the build without spending £600 and have a 1.5m lego model to display. https://chorleybricks.co.uk/

On my list this year its more experiences so far. There's a magazine subscription I would like and I really want to do float therapy, where you lie in an Epsom salt bath for an hour.

Also just remembered there is a Facebook group called 'Not on Amazon' and its a big group of small crafters. I bought things like bespoke garden ornaments and beeswax wraps last year.

Screamingabdabz · 30/09/2023 17:42

For my adult kids I always buy a few of those Christmas lottery scratch cards and roll them in the biggest £5 one - wrap it like cracker.

I like that idea!

Timeforchangeithink · 30/09/2023 17:48

Us siblings stopped buying for each other years ago and now the last DC is over 21 it's just our old mum. @OrangesOnlyFruit we wouldn't get a medal as we don't give the money to charity nor do we make a point of meeting up specifically. It is soooo much easier this way!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 30/09/2023 17:55

I did some online browsing earlier and found

  1. Matalan doing nice navy hot water bottles with a gold initial.
  1. Matalan doing hot chocolate crackers
  1. boots doing 1/2 offers on beauty packs
  1. Marks is doing their coffee and treat bag

Love the Lego rental idea for my DH! Can you give more info about how he gifted it to you? I.e. did he do the hire right before Christmas and wrap the box, gift voucher for you to redeem, etc?

Morred · 30/09/2023 18:04

Does anyone have any good ideas for “weird booze”? Basically, DH really likes trying weird spirits/liqueurs/etc (stuff that they sell in dusty shelves in corner shops). Is there anywhere that would sell a selection box? I don’t want fancy artisanal stuff necessary but things like a little bottle of Parma Violet gin, one of liquorice vodka, one of balsam aquavit, etc.

Wrongsideofpennines · 30/09/2023 18:05

He made a little voucher/token thing himself and gave me it in an envelope to open, and then picked it up a couple of days later. But we are sort of local, and they have only recently started postal hires. But I guess you could do it just before so he has it for the whole of the Christmas period. It came in a plastic crate which would have been wrappable but it was heavy!
