All presents done and wrapped. Just Xmas food shop (I don't need a lot really) and a clean through. Id be done by now if it wasn't for working 3 x 13 hour shifts on the trot. I break up tomorrow evening so I'm aiming to be finished by lunchtime Xmas eve and breaking out the wine!

@Pandorapitstop @Shecrazy @creamwitheverything I think I've solved problem. I have been on Auto trader and taken a gamble. I don't usually gamble. I've put a deposit on a used car and garage will MOT it today. They will service and valet tomorrow and I can collect on Saturday morning. Younger son can take me to pick it up. He will go on up to older sons and I will follow on Sunday morning. All I have to do is insure new car and pay road tax to garage and they will tax it online for me. Feeling excited now. Hoping car is not a dud.

Well done 10/10 for problem solving ! yes it's a gamble , reminds me of Mother from Home Alone trying to get home 😁

8/9 waiting on one more present and one of DHs arrived damaged and the company are being very unhelpful. Everything else is wrapped.
Off work now until the new year which is very unusual in my line of work. Planning some baking with DS tomorrow, and he had a hair cut booked. Had mine done last weekend. cleaned the house tonight. Got to bake a cake Christmas Eve and cook a turkey to take with us on Christmas day, will prep and stuff Christmas Eve night and just bung in the oven Christmas morning. Table booked for dinner Christmas Eve so no cooking! Feel pretty relaxed.

5 out of 10

Physically ive bought gifts, (not wrapped), tree is up,, we have food, we have each other, we have plans for Christmas Eve , home for Christmas Day.

Emotionally not prepared at all, my dh’s mum passed away a few weeks ago and it just doesn’t feel Christmassy.

Goawayangryman · 23/12/2022 00:04

Can I vote a middling 5? I find this performative housewifery really annoying but maybe I'm just having a bad day. No one will die if I haven't hand rolled the pigs in blankets...

TheClitterati · 23/12/2022 00:34
  1. Shopping list to write & food to shop for & cook.
ChristmasCwtch · 23/12/2022 00:39

9.5

I’ve got 2 John Lewis click and collects to pick up tomorrow from Waitrose and then 2 (last minute twitch don’t really need) Amazon deliveries due Saturday.

My sister is trying to convince me to do her kids’ Santa wrapping tomorrow as mine was finished in November. I think I may say yes in return for her cooking both lunch and dinner tomorrow 😂

ChristmasCwtch · 23/12/2022 00:40

Plus I wish I’d booked a manicure!! Most likely too late now

Everydayaschoolday · 23/12/2022 00:45

9.5
Just a wee tidy up needed tomorrow morning. And find shallots. And red Schloer. 😆👍🏻

Nottogetapenny · 23/12/2022 00:46

DPD haven’t delivered my parcel! They have had it for over 8 days. Said they attempted to deliver 4 days ago but nobody came! I have a ring doorbell to confirm this! Next day said they could not deliver as the driver couldn’t find my house ( I’ve had umpteen Parcel previously) Yesterday said out for delivery and it wasn’t!.
Apart from that I would say am at about 7

SisyphusDad · 23/12/2022 00:48

About 7.

However my standards are so low that the thinnest of credit cards would struggle to get under the bar!

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 23/12/2022 00:52

9.5. Housework done, just got to wash bedding (I like fresh sheets on Christmas Eve 😆) and have a general tidy up.

All presents wrapped, going to in-laws for Christmas dinner so no need to stress about food prep. I'm feeling rather chill- finally!

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 23/12/2022 00:54

@caringcarer sorry if it's been mentioned but would it be possible to hire a car for a few days? No idea how much that would cost over the bank holidays mind. Hope you get sorted

Hell yeah, ready-made, shop bought convenience all the way!

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 23/12/2022 00:58

@caringcarer I should have rtft Blush glad you are sorted!

Puppers · 23/12/2022 01:05

Probably a 2.

I feel so deflated this year. I desperately want to make it magical for the kids because they are in peak Christmas magic years, but it's been a tough year and we've got wider family drama on my side between my parents which is causing me a lot of stress. I've bought gifts but nothing is wrapped because the baby is glued to me day and night and everyone is ill. MIL is being a nasty piece of work as per usual and my poor DH is struggling with it. His job is also extremely demanding at the moment and he's very distracted which I know he feels terrible about.

I just feel bogged down with things and I can't get my arse in gear and get organised.

Pandorapitstop · 23/12/2022 06:23

Just read caring carer’supdate and hope all goes smoothly!

SingaporeSlinky · 23/12/2022 07:57

Presents wrapped, food shopping done, fridge full to bursting. Table extension brought in. Living room table full of nibbles. Guests have arrived and we’ve had first dinner. Tonight’s dinner is defrosting, and I have a list of what to defrost on each day, all dinners were made earlier this month and frozen so I only have to reheat and cook veg etc. Table cloth and napkins ironed. House cleaned. Washing baskets completely empty (unheard of)! Mince pies made. Wine and prosecco chilling.

Feeling very smug. There must be something I’ve forgotten!

YouCantBeSirius · 23/12/2022 09:35

Probably an 8 just now. Only DH presents to wrap now which I'll do at some point today. Some housework to do but nearly there. I'm working until 11pm on Christmas Eve so DH will get presents out for me coming home and I'll lay them under the tree

Santamajormummy000 · 23/12/2022 14:29

@RenardeRenarde
If you’ve bought everything but aren’t sure of the cooking plan etc. I’d get ahead today by making a vegetable or mushroom soup, just fry a chopped onion (mushroom) and garlic, boil them up for 30 mins with what looks good from your veg and blitz it all. Starter (with fried bread croutons) ready.

Ask your guests for advice AND HELP on the main course (French style turkey with chestnuts is pretty daunting IMO) but if you’re doing turkey, Google cooking times and add an hour for crisping the roast potatoes while the meat rests, the bird can just go in as it is.

Prep a tray of chopped veg today and cook it in your extra hour. That’s when pigs in blankets and baked stuffing go in, too.

Microwave your Christmas Pudding (never steamed one in 30 years) and serve it with ice cream. Pleasantly quirky. Custard is fine, too.

Plenty of non-cooked stuff like (French!) wine, cheese and crackers, nuts and dried fruit, pate and toast are Christmassy and help fill in any waiting time.

But most of all GET PEOPLE TO HELP.
🍾🍾🥧🥃🍗🥳

AkoraEdelherb · 23/12/2022 14:31
  1. All food is cooked. Desserts and sweet snacks all bought. I still need a few Christmas presents though, and to run the hoover. We eat and exchange gifts tomorrow hence the 5. All food but no presents isn’t great.
MrsTulip · 23/12/2022 15:37

Nearer a 7 today -food shop has been done oven and fridge have been cleaned. Stuff for church has been sorted.

Just need to clean the kitchen and living room (I reckon an hour - hour an a half for both) ice the cake and bake some mince pies.

Hopefully be a 9.5 by 2pm tomorrow

maddiemookins16mum · 23/12/2022 15:38

I’m done.
House is spotless, guest room ready. Fridge stocked. Menu for next three days on the meal planner board. Presents all wrapped.
I literally have nothing else left to do.
I’ve even set my Alexa alarms for getting things out of the freezer.
I’ve just sat down with a cuppa with DMIL and we’ve opened the shortbread and lit some candles.

DH is in the kitchen prepping a curry for tonight, DD is out Christmas shopping.

Really looking forward to it all now.

coniston19 · 23/12/2022 16:07

Have all kids presents to wrap, beds to change tomorrow, bedroom to sort for in -laws ... otherwise done.

Am knackered already!
