M&S 12 days of treats - rubbish!!

I see others have had free bottles gin and other delights, and am feeling a bit miffed.

I got a free small hand cream (which they didn’t even have at my local M&S) on the first day, and it’s been utter rubbish every day since - think 15% off women’s rights, 20% off skincare, 15% off a Panettone, £1 off a light up shortbread lantern. Just so disappointing.
Anyone else feeling the same? Does it go by how much you spend in M&S, I spent maybe £800 a year I’d say. Perhaps that not enough to get the good stuff?!

I got the free gin and was unbelievably excited about that. Since then been just discount codes which I doubt I’ll use. My mum spends way more there than me and got a bag of oranges when I got the gin! Had a birthday in December, don’t know if that meant I got the gin?

WingingIt101 · 11/12/2022 21:39

Same.

Free bag of chocolate coins which saves me a whole £1. Then just discounts I don't need as I'm not buying anything in those departments.

V. Disapointing.

15% off women's rights? Is that the fact they're letting male bodied people in to the women's changing rooms?

But yeah, it's shite. I got a light up tea lantern and I don't drink it. Other than that, it's all discounts on stuff I neither need nor want or stuff I have already bought recently so don't need more of right now.

I collected the tea lantern so I could give it to the Foodbank. Just a thought.

lightisnotwhite · 11/12/2022 21:43

The discount codes stack though so I have found it useful for gifting. Free tea fir my mum. The Christmas tree decorations were on sale and I got another 30% off - a boxed Seven Wonders of the World were a great present for my travel obsessed friend at under £15.
I reckon a few more seasonal chocolate give aways would be good but I always think if stores can give away bottles of booze we are all paying somewhere along the line.

I got a free tea lantern on day 1. £1 off the shortbread one day. But apart from that just % discounts.

Exactly the same here. I didn't want a lantern and the discounts are for things I don't buy.

We don't have food banks near me. I donate to a local charity that provides necessities to those in need instead.

I did pass the tea it on to someone I know would appreciate it.

cinnabongene · 11/12/2022 18:03

It’s a load of crap. I had a Robin Christmas decoration on the first day. DH had a Percy Pig decoration. Neither available in store. Other days have been things like 10 percent off flowers for delivery and the stupid Tonies thing

If you can't find those decorations, they list alternative you can redeem it against, I got a light up bauble instead which I much prefer

ChaseTheSun · 11/12/2022 22:08

I got a free tea lantern on the first day and £1 off a shortbread one the next. I went into store on Thursday and the lanterns were on 3 for 2 which all stacked meaning I got 3 lanterns for around £5.

GetOffTheRoof · 11/12/2022 22:23

Same hand cream that isn't in stock anywhere, then Samsung discounts (which are available elsewhere anyway), Tonies (no kids) and today is 20% off jeans which I'm raging about as I bought 3 pairs 2 weeks ago. :-/

I only buy jeans and bras in M&S ffs. Sparks should know this!

TheLadyOfHay · 11/12/2022 22:26

Percy Pig tree decoration on day 1 which I haven’t bothered to collect and same offers as pp have mentioned. I rarely use my Sparks card so not entirely surprised. Had hoped for gin or Prosecco though

LivingOnAPrayerYes · 11/12/2022 23:01

When I started reading, I thought this was some kind of raffle ticket type thing, but is this actually a thread moaning about a shop giving away completely free things, and people don't deem them good enough? Even just a voucher you won't use, we'll you're no worse off!

Not just any shop, but a shop that has been rumoured to be going into administration a few times over the last few years.

'I spend a lot of money there so they should give ME free stuff. Don't they know what an important customer I am? 😆 Pull yourselves together!

Tessabelle74 · 11/12/2022 23:03

Imagine complaining about free shit! Not your cup of tea maybe but it hasn't cost you anything has it? 🙄

determinedtomakethiswork · 11/12/2022 23:05

I got a so-called bottle of free gin but they didn't have any gin in the shop so I couldn't have it. That's not much of a present is it?

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 11/12/2022 23:14

@LivingOnAPrayerYes I think people are just disappointed... there was a BIG build up from M&S for the '12 days if Christmas'.

The free gifts offered were mostly unavailable in store... and a lot of the 'gifts' were money off things that were just odd... e.g. money off a Samsung phone...

I took advantaged of the money off offers I received and saved around £12 in total, which is not to be sniffed at. But others were getting free bottles of Prosecco and Gin... it is what it is but I can understand why people
are disappointed.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 11/12/2022 23:57

All of mine are fecking useless cos my nearest stores are 20 miles and 45 miles away. By the time I've driven there and paid for parking the discounts aren't going to be worth piss all

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 12/12/2022 00:18

So my grand finale is..............................

20% off leggings!

Owing to the fact that I look like Max Wall wearing them I think it's safe to say I won't be using that discount.

TangledBlue · 12/12/2022 00:22

20% off women's bras for me today...

I do actually need to order a bra from M&S so it will come in useful, but I thought there would be something a bit more exciting for the final day.

The 'golden reward' had better be a freebie!

CallieQ · 12/12/2022 00:57

All I got was free Percy pigs 🙄

Luxurysleuth007 · 12/12/2022 01:00

I spend a lot in the food halls over the year and my ‘12’ things were mostly shoddy money off offers. Highly disappointing.

FredaFox · 12/12/2022 01:00

20% nobody's child

ADifferentKindofChristmas · 12/12/2022 01:09

Do we all get a "Golden Reward?" if so where does it say that?

ILoveMyCaravan · 12/12/2022 01:13

It's been absolutely shit. First day was a small hand cream which they ran out of very quickly. Since then, a small percentage off stuff I'm not interested in and certainly doesn't tempt me to go into the store.

If you're a second past midnight they don't even let you see the offer. Probably not missing much anyway.

Mumek · 12/12/2022 01:21

I got a bunch of bananas - which I detest, refused them obviously. i spend thousands a year in M&S too.

pizzaHeart · 12/12/2022 01:24

I’ve got 20% off Prosecco and free lights do it’s not too bad. Other stuff was £1 off lantern, 20% off men’s suits and similar.
I would love to have 20% off tights for a day , DD and I both love particular tights from M&S which are expensive.
But I don’t want any reduction of my rights especially at Xmas period.

endlesscraziness · 12/12/2022 03:25

It's a free promotional campaign, I don't really understand the whinging. I got a free tea lantern and just discounts since then but it's been fun having a look and some have been useful. People are never happy
