New thread!

I finally managed to clear the top of the sideboard in the dining room. It tends to get used as a dumping ground for bits and pieces. I'm hoping I can keep it clear until Christmas as I have high falutin ideas of being able to put the Christmas serving dishes on it. What's the betting it will have random crap on it by this time tomorrow?

I did DS's uniform ironing on Friday Fluffy - I'd love DH to do it although he's pretty good at doing the shirts.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/11/2022 20:07

Your sideboard is clearly related to my dumping ground dining table, Woolly!

I don’t iron uniform. I just hang DD’s shirts when they’re wet. Ds has polo shirts so they’re fine.

WreckTangled · 20/11/2022 20:29

There’s a thread where people are telling the op that pjs and pants aren’t gifts, they’re basic necessities and they shouldn’t be Christmas presents for her ds. My dc always get new pjs and pants! 😳

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/11/2022 20:45

Wreck my mum always bought all of her grandchildren PJs for Christmas and they were always allowed to open them on Christmas Eve. She passed away four years ago and we still buy PJs from "Nanna" and they are opened on Christmas Eve. My sisters do it with their grandchildren too.

Character pants went in the stockings and now they are older it's matching bra/pants sets and posh boxers. There would be a riot in my house if the stockings didn't follow the traditional format. As for stopping stockings when they are teenagers/adults - well I missed that boat years ago.

Pants and pjs every year! Without fail!!!

BiddyPop · 20/11/2022 22:24

DH got very upset the year DFIL died as it turned out HE was the person who always acquired the jocks and socks (or pants and tights) part of presents from the ILs to their DCs ...DH was in his 40s. And socks were a common part of adult dc stockings in my family too (any dc who slept under DPs roof on 24th still has to put out their pair of socks for Santa...youngest is now very late 30s and there are lots of DGCs as well).

WreckTangled · 21/11/2022 06:15

34 my dc also have socks in their stocking. I obviously buy them socks when needed (ds expensive seedless ones 🙄) but in the stocking ds has big thick woolly ones and dd has some adidas ones. Ds has new boxers and dd has some Hollister knickers. I’ve asked dh for pjs too…

another day of watching Xmas films and uni work for me as I had a big school visit booked in today and I can’t do that from home… can start testing tomorrow to see if I’m negative and can go back to work Wednesday.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/11/2022 06:35

I always put fun socks in my kids' presents somewhere! I've never given pants as present to them, but DH gets new ones each year. 😁

Enjoy your film and uni work day, Wreck.

It's been really cold overnight here. Might have to have morning heating for the first time this winter!

DD and I watched our first CCF of the season on Saturday under Christmas blankets on the sofa🎅🏻

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 21/11/2022 21:06

WRT stockings and if underwear is wrong or right

I buy my adult DS a couple of multipacks of black socks (with a little pattern on them so I know they're his not DHs) from Next and some sport socks from Sports Direct
Branded underwear from TKMaxx .

DS is quite delighted as it means he doesn't have to spend his money on them.

DD gets nice underwear ( Calvin Klein or Victoria Secret /Pink )

When they were little I didn't but their Dec 1st Bag has evolved Xmas Grin

Taytocrisps · 22/11/2022 06:25

33 Hoping to pick up another present today.

WreckTangled · 22/11/2022 07:02

Morning. I feel worse today. Missing another day at uni which is annoying and missing ds’ parents evening.

Can someone recommend me a ccf? I think I’ve exhausted all the Netflix ones. We also have prime, Disney plus and sky movies.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/11/2022 08:04

Oh no, Wreck. That's not good. Hopefully you improve soon.

It's meant to be a dry day today, so the washing is out. Maybe not enough breeze to do much good though!

Morning all. DS and DH regularly get pants and socks for Christmas (alongside other gifts) and I often get socks. Sorry to hear you feel rubbish wreck.

Just waiting for a wash to finish so I can hang it outside, am going to plant my garlic today.

Doing reasonably well with Christmas planning, am now regularly picking up food bits in Aldi.

WreckTangled · 22/11/2022 08:29

It’s ok I feel much better now must have just been groggy this morning. My test is the darkest it’s been which is very annoying. I love getting new socks too. Sunny and cold here, our washing machine isn’t plumbed in yet though so no washing…

CrazyBaubles · 22/11/2022 10:32

Morning. I'm back to work after a fun 3 days away. I love Edinburgh anyway, but when it's cold but dry and the Christmas lights are up, it's even better.
They have a light festival at the castle - we didn't go in but did wander up there after dark and watched the mini show they have projected onto the castle walls (pics)
Also did 2 visits to the Christmas shop. Was very impressed with the staff wearing Christmas dresses / jumpers plus festive socks and jewellery Xmas Grin

Wreck what did you think of Falling for Christmas?
I really enjoyed it - it has all the stuff you need for a CCF!
If you have Prime there are a few - Christmas Under Wraps, Broadcasting Christmas, Christmas Land, plus some with more famous stars that aren't quite so crappy (four Christmases, Love Actually, Christmas with the Kranks, and one I have a soft spot for, Deck The Halls) Xmas Smile

Thanks for the reminder about the garlic dreaming, I need to add that to my weekend to do list.

And now I need to get on with some work. Amazing how behind I feel from missing one day!

Thanks crazy, I’ll check them out! Those photos are great, pleased you had a good time.

I’ve just been through all the stocking bits, ds has a few more than dd but that’s ok as she’s easy so I think I’m almost done!

WreckTangled · 22/11/2022 11:18

Oh and falling for Christmas was awful (ly good and cheesy😅)

Taytocrisps · 22/11/2022 19:25

Love the photos Crazy. Glad you had a good time.

Morning!

It's very wet here. Luckily I woke at 5, so DH went out to get the washing in (he chose to leave it out, despite rain forecast from 6, so he had to get it in!).

I have a day off today. We're clearing the shed; exciting times! 🤣

I'm also off on Friday afternoon. That's my pre-trees cleaning time!

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 23/11/2022 07:16

Morning. V wet here too but it’s meant to clear. Dd is off sick today much to my annoyance, apparently she doesn’t feel well, has stomach ache and an upset stomach. I’m cross I’ve paid £22 for a bus pass that she’s only used for two days, she has an inset day on Friday so at most will now get three days out of it. I can’t tell if she generally is unwell or not, she has way more time off sick than I’ve ever had or she had off at primary school. I guess I’ll do another covid test on her.

I’m back working today will have lots to catch up on.

CrazyBaubles · 23/11/2022 08:59

What a rock & roll day you're having Fluffy 😂

Wreck I hope your dd is feeling better soon and that work isn't too busy for you.

It's absolutely freezing here. It was raining but that seems to have stopped for now.

I'm still catching up with work but it's never ending at the minute. Sigh.
I'm also desperately trying to finish my Christmas shopping but I'm absolutely stumped for 13yo nephew. He like playing (but not watching) football, gaming and that's about it. Help!

NoWordForFluffy · 23/11/2022 09:17

Crazy, I feel your pain re work. I worked til 7 last night to try to get on top for my time off.

My day is even more rock'n'roll as we're having my new allotment shed delivered too.

I'm going to Sainsbury’s before I do anything though as it's chucking it down. I'm wet from the thighs down due to the water running off my raincoat. Should've driven to school. Mistake! 🤣🤣

OP posts:
CrazyBaubles · 23/11/2022 16:51

Actually a new shed is quite exciting Fluffy.
How big is it?
We'd never had one until we moved into this house and DH bored me to tears talking about them but I love it now. We've got solar lights along the side of it and plan to paint it a nice colour next summer because we left it too late this year

My work day has been mad and is probably going to continue until 6 - I'm refusing to work later than that as I have other things in the house to sort.
