It feels bizarre setting up the first Christmas thread on one of the hottest days of the year, yet here we are!

Lovely to see you all; take a seat and grab a mince pie as they get passed around.

Please do alert me to anything for the next thread's page of links (I'm starting fresh this year). Hope you've had a good year and looking forward to celebrating and sharing our bargain buys.

Right who is pregnant and due before Christmas for our thread babies?

Hoping it's not me, I'm due just after and planning on keeping my legs firmly crossed throughout December.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 13/08/2022 10:47

Hello all, lovely to see this thread making a return. I found it late last year so hopefully I can find some bargains this time and help out with codes/offers where I can.

I am usually starting about now I have a couple if bits put to one side but need to really reassess how I do Christmas this year so sure these threads will help

Know there is a lot if talk on these usually about oodies and the like - last year I found the Dunelm hoodies great. Not as thick as oodies etc but lovely soft materials and we lived in ours last winter - I looked today and they have a range available at the moment. These sold out quite quickly last year.

Need an edit button 😂

sorryiasked · 13/08/2022 11:15

@coodawoodashooda can't go wrong with books. Books4u / book people / the works all do bundles

Grrrpredictivetex · 13/08/2022 11:25

Thanks @Reastie for new thread. Really going to be tightening the purse strings this year so this thread helps enormously. Had finished all my shopping by about early November last time.
Would anybody have a Lakeland voucher they're not going to use please?
Happy bargain shopping everyone 🎄

Any tips for nearly 4 year old girls? I have twins and honestly I have no idea what to get them 😞

How about some lego? They do a junior range which is regular bricks but more basic builds.

Mine loved little figures at that age. The my busy books, disney shop ones or ones from their favourite programmes. I used to wrap them up with the book or dvd. Or start a collection of animals like schleich (which family could add to!) Maybe sylvanian families?

Things with their favourite character or animal on. Lunchbox/bag/bedding/clothing.

A voucher for build a bear, literally my eldest daughters favourite place since she was about 3 (she's 14 this year and still getting a bab for Christmas!).

Days out but with toys to coincide with them. So a lego set and a trip to legoland, some animals and a trip to a zoo etc. So they get a gift but also a day out to look forward to. Depends on your girls though and whether they would understand the trip wasn't happening right away!!

Or my girls both had a nintendo 2DS at that age. They loved playing games and they were great for long journeys or chilling out in the evenings. I preferred them over a tablet as the games often required thought and helped their problem solving skills rather than quick 5 min games that require no thought or skill on tablets.

Aw thread babies 🥰 I'm due #3 23rd September so it's very strange to think I will have a 3 month old when we get to the end of the the thread!

I second this! The dunhelm ones are lovely and could tumble dry them too. (Last year I took all my washing to the laundrette to tumble dry as it costs less than running mine!)

Thanks @Reastie and @Sideorderofchips. Love this thread every year.

Hype has sent me a code for free shipping. It doesn't look a one off . FREESHIP

BigEaredBob · 13/08/2022 11:39

Does anyone have the Zombie Kidz board game? Considering buying it for my 9 year old and wondering if it’s any good.

Thanks

MrsBungle · 13/08/2022 11:42

Woo hoo. Thanks Reastie. This is my annual call to start my shopping!

psuedocream3 · 13/08/2022 11:52

Hi everyone, so lovely to have the new thread, so exciting, thank you @Reastie 😁

We had a thread baby last year, he's ten months now, it's flown by! I hope the other babies are doing well, and look forward to welxoming this years babies too.

Thank you for the 5poundshop Kudd.ly hoodie bargain, I was researching which ones were the best and they came out top in the trials for thickness, warmth, design etc so I bought them for the older four kids.

emmafou1807 · 13/08/2022 11:52

Found these threads for the first time this year, and so far have snapped up a couple of great little add on gifts thanks to everyone. Assume a thread baby will be born while this thread is active so I'll qualify, due end of September with no 2.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2022 12:00

I have one, @Grrrpredictivetex, but don't know its expiry date. I'm just popping to the shop so will look when I get home.

Thanks for setting up this thread op. I check in everyday to see what you have all found. I'm looking for something to give my class. Bulk buying about £1 each. Any suggestions welcome!

Try the works- they often have book offers that fall into this price range (I swear I have seen 10 for £10 in there!

Isonthecase · 13/08/2022 12:05

Had no idea these threads started so early, have only lurked before! Thanks for starting one, I feel cooler already thinking of Christmas 🤣

Baby expected in the next week or two so I was planning to smash out some shopping now and then finish up nearer Christmas but enjoying getting ideas for the list. He's already getting a present from the John Lewis sale...

Just had an email from British Boxers with an extra 10% off the sale with code FB10. They're also sold on joules but generally cheaper direct and lovely t shirts, PJ's, and boxers (obviously!) which come in nice colours so at least they don't feel too sensible! Frustrates me every year that boxers and socks are top of the list for my husband, no interest whatsoever in cinnamon buns or oodie 😅

Books for bugs. Often have a selection of £1 books aimed at just this sort of thing

TheBatwoman · 13/08/2022 12:16

Just picked up some little Duplo sets in Aldi for £5.99 each. Floating Red Panda and Unicorn.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2022 12:31

Aldi also has character bedding in. £5.99 for toddler and £7.99 for single. I saw Peppa and Duggee, but then got distracted by DH reminding me what I was in there for! 🤣

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2022 12:36

@Grrrpredictivetex, I've PM'd you.

JacktomyDaniel · 13/08/2022 12:37

The designafriend range has a huge 25% off all dolls, house and accessories at the minute.
I got one doll, all the furniture and the house for just over £200.
Praying she new doesn't request a 'big' present that's different.

Scarily my first thread baby (second child) is now 11 and the 2nd thread baby is 7 next month!

Can't believe it's that time of year again! This is my fourth year on these threads, three years ago I was pregnant with my second baby and discovered them when I was trying to be organised! He was a thread baby and will be turning 3 on the 20th December!

Bring on the bargains!
