It feels bizarre setting up the first Christmas thread on one of the hottest days of the year, yet here we are!

Lovely to see you all; take a seat and grab a mince pie as they get passed around.

Please do alert me to anything for the next thread's page of links (I'm starting fresh this year). Hope you've had a good year and looking forward to celebrating and sharing our bargain buys.

Any tips for nearly 4 year old girls? I have twins and honestly I have no idea what to get them 😞

sittingonacornflake · 13/08/2022 07:02

Sorry for the chat but yaaaaaay it's bargain thread time! Doubly pleased as I am sick to death of being boiling hot all the time and am very ready for a change of season.

DD is 4 in October and she’s been going on about getting a Guinea pig (which she is categorically not getting and I’ve told her you need to be at least 5 to get one) but she’s also started getting into unicorns. I got her a My Fairy Garden from the John Lewis sale as shared in the prequel threads but I haven’t the foggiest other than that!

DS (who will be 2 at the end of January) is much easier to buy for… even if realistically it will all probably get shared/argued over between the two of them 😂

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2022 07:12

@tuesdayblues1

My DD turns 4 at Xmas. I think I'm going to get her a doll from Mary shortle (as she is doll obsessed), some cheaper brand magnetic tiles and craft bits, plus a few sticker books

17caterpillars1mouse · 13/08/2022 07:14

@Thegirlhasnamechanged have you seen the little live pets mama guinea pig with babies. Guinea pig obsessed DD keeps seeing the adverts and wants one. Not cheap though. I've told her she can use her pocket money for that one. Might be an option though

NightOwl101 · 13/08/2022 07:23

So glad I've found this nice and early! I have 2 DC birthdays in sept and Oct so I want to get them and Christmas done early as possible

CottonHeadedNinnyMug · 13/08/2022 07:31

How about a dolls house @tuesdayblues1 ? Or could be time to begin with basic lego if they haven't already?

Beachhutnut · 13/08/2022 07:32

I remember my 4 year old was obsessed with the Disney Princess toddler dolls and played with em until she moved onto the my generation ones about 7 or 8( which she still plays with ral years on!)

2under2howscary · 12/08/2022 19:26

Strange question- but when it's actually Xmas do the threads get all festive and everyone talks about Xmas plans?

I love bargains and discounts but I'm also quite lonely and would love to read about what people enjoy for their festivities!

Also PSA: book Santa/ busy Christmas events now xx

Look out for the Poncetastic Christmas thread. Traditionally starts on 25th September. Full of Poncetastic Christmas plans and crafts.
lovely chatty thread each year.

TheBatwoman · 13/08/2022 07:53

Thank you for the tip @EverydayIsPJday! I just picked up a playmobil farm for my little ones as a stocking filler.

Feeling very organised now too, as I used to be quite the last minute wonder in years gone by pre-kids

coodawoodashooda · 13/08/2022 08:19

Thanks for setting up this thread op. I check in everyday to see what you have all found. I'm looking for something to give my class. Bulk buying about £1 each. Any suggestions welcome!

Dreamingofwalden · 13/08/2022 08:25

Morning all, I went to B and M bargains on Friday and noticed Octonauts toys - they must have brought out a new range to tie in with Netflix?
I also noticed the brownie skillets and sundae glasses which I know were popular in the past. Thanks @Reastie - these threads have helped so much over the past few years.
I forgot to note your name but the lady with four year old twin girls I have three year old twin boys and a six year old. Magnetic tiles are one of the few toys they all play nicely with but you need a good number for big builds so you could invest in them, or try them out if they don’t have any other special requests. I also really recommend Yoto players - audio cards of music or audio books they can play themselves. I like that they can operate them theirselves and if people are asking for gift suggestions you can ask for a card or two. Fewer toys cluttering up the place - or is that just my twins?!

TheBatwoman · 13/08/2022 08:34

Great tips, thanks @Dreamingofwalden. Nice to see some other twin parents on here too. Our twins are almost 1 and there are already toys everywhere!

LemonFrosting · 13/08/2022 08:36

I'm so jealous of all of you buying octonauts toys! Home bargains used to sell them, then they stopped, two weeks later my son becomes obsessed with octonauts and I can't find them anywhere apart from ebay which the sellers had hiked the prices right up!! This year already there's octonauts out in the shops.
Happened with hey duggee a few years back too, only amazon was selling merchandise which was extremely expensive, now its everywhere!!
Obviously I'm being light hearted! 😂

Famousthehero · 12/08/2022 21:02

Ha ha, the annual ‘chat chat’ as somebody put it.

This Nat Geo rock and mineral set is 29% off, £32 instead of £44 I think.
might be a nice starter set, looks like it has lots in and a booklet. Last year there were lots of black Friday reductions on national geographic stuff though.

Thank you for this. DD loves buying gemstones etc, so this is right up her street!

BluOcty · 13/08/2022 08:44

The older Octonauts toys are really difficult to play with, since the characters barely stand up - their heads are so big that they overbalance causing little DC tantrums.

The best are the gups vehicles because the figures are sitting down. Definitely get them 2nd hand on eBay in case you end up hating them!

RJnomore1 · 13/08/2022 09:16

Thank you to whoever posted the liz earle set on the last thread. It’s ideal for my god daughter and I also have student discount plus a &5 voucher on my boots card when I spent £30 so I managed to get it for £34 which is a great bargain and someone ticked off my list 😁

grayhairdontcare · 13/08/2022 09:45

Lurking with intent.

Sideorderofchips · 13/08/2022 10:02

Hey @Reastie !

Time for me to hand over and go hibernate till closer to Christmas. I'll be back in the new year with the next prequel!

Sideorderofchips · 13/08/2022 10:06

Right who is pregnant and due before Christmas for our thread babies?

FourTeaFallOut · 13/08/2022 10:10

Here for the great present hunt - already made a good start with the prequel thread.

NoWordForFluffy · 13/08/2022 10:18

Sideorderofchips · 13/08/2022 10:06

Right who is pregnant and due before Christmas for our thread babies?

We had a fair few thread babies last year. Maybe we exhausted supply?! 🤔🤣

Tofu35 · 13/08/2022 10:21

@Sideorderofchips I'm due on 12th December. This Christmas will be very different for our house 😂 will need to break my usual "last minute" dash habits and be organised!

Gr33ngr33ngr4ss · 13/08/2022 10:33

Oh! Yay! Thanks @Reastie @Sideorderofchips

I need to get this wardrobe built now so I can hide the bargains!
