It feels bizarre setting up the first Christmas thread on one of the hottest days of the year, yet here we are!

Lovely to see you all; take a seat and grab a mince pie as they get passed around.

Please do alert me to anything for the next thread's page of links (I'm starting fresh this year). Hope you've had a good year and looking forward to celebrating and sharing our bargain buys.

Oh this is exciting. I'm currently in palma in 37 degree heat contemplating the New Look hooded blankets that someone posted on the prequel thread
What's wrong with me!
Merry Xmas everyone. Excited.

MadeForThis · 12/08/2022 20:17

I loved this thread last year. Our family birthdays start in sept so it's perfect timing for both!!

CatOfTheLand · 12/08/2022 20:53

2under2howscary · 12/08/2022 19:26

Strange question- but when it's actually Xmas do the threads get all festive and everyone talks about Xmas plans?

I love bargains and discounts but I'm also quite lonely and would love to read about what people enjoy for their festivities!

Also PSA: book Santa/ busy Christmas events now xx

It gets a bit divided to be honest - it's Christmas shopping focused but a little bit of chitchat and people asking for help finding presents etc. But then every year someone will post asking people to stop the banter and a big debate about whether or not the mild chatting is ok will arise (I enjoy the chats, although I don't really join in.)

In general, it's a really lovely place to be though. You definitely feel part of something and get some lovely heartwarming stories of MNers helping each other out.

Famousthehero · 12/08/2022 21:02

Ha ha, the annual ‘chat chat’ as somebody put it.

This Nat Geo rock and mineral set is 29% off, £32 instead of £44 I think.
might be a nice starter set, looks like it has lots in and a booklet. Last year there were lots of black Friday reductions on national geographic stuff though.

DrAddisonForbesMontgomery · 12/08/2022 21:06

Thanks Reastie, glad to be back for my third year (and multiple name changes 😊)
I have a dd with a November birthday too so these threads help me massively!

JubileeTissues · 12/08/2022 21:07

Glad to be back. The bargains are already piling up in this house.

woodwaj · 12/08/2022 21:09

I know baked in is popular and I would really recommend following them on tik tok. They do live shops and have between 20/50% off items and tik tok do some really good discounts off your first shop order, I got the brioche buns, pretzel kit, bagel kit and cinnamon buns for £2! (That was mainly a tik tok discount I think!) And I think anything over a fiver is free delivery and they also chuck in a little freebie with every order.

Also I was recently at center parcs and we did the owl experience. The man doing the talk said one if his owls brought up a pellet during a show and he couldn't believe it as someone took it! It reminded me of last years thread when they were super popular and I presumed it was someone from the Xmas bargain thread 🤣

Motherofplants · 12/08/2022 21:15

Joining for my third year! Last year everyone was great in helping me track down octonauts (I spotted the tesco link earlier thanks), my little boy was ecstatic with his octopod and still plays with it daily! Alas this year, he just wants Father Christmas to bring him a yoyo...

Decisionfatiguequeen · 12/08/2022 21:16

Baked in cinnamon bun kits were £2-something in our Aldi last week - kids made them today whilst sheltering inside from the sun - delicious!!

Iknownothing · 12/08/2022 21:16

Lurking with jingle bells on.
Already brought fake oodies in a heatwave

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 12/08/2022 21:16

Can't believe we're already hitting Reastie's thread time. Thanks to Chips for the prequel threads. Think this will be my 10th or 11th year on the bargain threads. Times flown by.

Don't think I'm going to need much this year as main presents are going to be weekends away but will need some wee things Smile

Eve · 12/08/2022 21:20

If anyone is after underwear or sports tops, oddballs have a sale on with a free gift for over £30 spend. DS now stocked up on pants & gym shirts & I got a nice umbrella.

CinderellaFant · 12/08/2022 21:30

Oh placemarking! Can't believe it's time for the Christmas bargain thread! I am here for it 😂

alrightfella · 12/08/2022 21:33

I'm looking for some adult rapunzel pjs if anyone sees any. I thought the Disney store might sell them but they only seen to sell kids ones.

MuffinFeatures · 12/08/2022 21:38

My first year here 👋🏻 the prequel threads meant I’ve made a great start already, so I’m here with a mince pie, mulled wine and Gavin & Stacey Christmas special on in the background! 🎄

mac1974 · 12/08/2022 21:43

@2under2howscary I've seen threads within the Christmas section about Xmas preparations in previous year so you could keep an eye on there or start one up
It was quite good. Some nice ideas were shared.

ColeslawSandwich · 12/08/2022 22:04

@2under2howscary theres usually chat about Xmas traditions and planning on the Christmas board rather than the bargains post.

Crimsonbow · 12/08/2022 22:14

Hi! I left MN after Christmas but returned for the prequel threads and I'm stuck reading about parking and neighbours now whenever I'm done catching up with the bargains 😅

Thank you for the prequels, I've made a good dent in the shopping already. Last year I was able to gift people great gifts, partly because of the bargains but also because of the ideas shared.

2under2howscary · 12/08/2022 22:14

@ColeslawSandwich thanks, I just wasn't sure. It's my first time on the Christmas threads this year

Have you checked Primark? I'm not sure if they've got Rapunzel but they definitely do adults Disney PJ's so might be worth a look.

Beautifulsunflowers · 12/08/2022 22:51

Yay!!! Thanks @Reastie for starting the Christmas bargain thread up again this year!!
Bring on the cinnamon buns and bargains!

Gracesquirrel · 12/08/2022 23:17

Hey Reastie merry Xmas!! 😆 (got in first this year lol)

Thanks Chips for the sterling work on the pre- pre-xmas bargain threads I'm about half done already thanks to those!

buckeejit · 12/08/2022 23:29

Thanks Reastie!

I've started this week seed collecting from flowers in the garden, (just cornflowers so far). Done it with children I mind & will do it with mine & decorate a seed packet in Dec with 'seed harvested with love by dgc' on it

noodledoodler · 12/08/2022 23:55

Hi again everyone, hi Reastie, great to be on the main threads, can't remember how long I've been christmas bargaining, probably 5/6 years now in one or two name changes. Already have quite a bit stashed thanks to the prequels,
hoping to slim it all down a bit this year so sharing bargains super important, thanks to everyone who takes part, keep em all coming
I say 😀

Petal7 · 13/08/2022 06:16

So happy to be back on the Christmas threads! Thank you @Reastie for all your hard work in running them and to Chips for the fab prequels. Happy bargain hunting all!
