My concern re JL for those who did order is if they suddenly take the full cost from peoples accounts.
I know some will have taken advantage but will not have the money to cover this if it happens. I doubt many could wait for the returns either.
I’m less worried about people feeling guilty, a quick google tells you they are not an ethical shop at all.
The mistake really is the dispatching of items rather than freezing orders and going through what is genuine etc.
I watch with interest to see what happens!

Yes very strange that each item is being dispatched separately. I've so far had 11 emails about items. Only one had three items the rest were individual. I doubt they can take money you've not authorised so I'm not worried about that.

@captainjacksparrow, they can't just take money people haven't authorised. It doesn't work like that.

I don't think you can return food items, it's in JL T&C.

Yes they are a big company but the way it works, because it's a partnership is all the staff get a slice of bonus at Christmas based on the profit the partnership has made that year. It is entirely possible that a lot of staff on the shop floor who are minimum wage or close to, won't be getting a bonus or as much as they would have got. So they will be worse off or at least not get that nice treat. It depends how many people took how much advantage of the glitch. And how much is dispatched - as it's the weekend JL still might not have figured it out yet.

Please can we not worry people unnecessarily, they can't take money that has not been authorised.

There is no way that John Lewis can take more money than what was stated on the order. They could cancel your order, or part of it, but they surely can’t charge full price.

Why is everyone feeling so bad over the JL glitch? Lots of posters were happy when the Hot Diamonds codes were stacking and also would have happily taken the free PJ's.

They can choose to fulfil the orders or just cancel them.

It's not a big deal really, they turn over millions and Janice working on the lingerie section isn't going to lose her job over this!

I placed a glitchy JL order yesterday as a sort of bored experiment. I really didn’t expect it to go through, and then thought it would be cancelled anyway so didn’t think any more about it.

But they have now started dispatching things from it, and it won’t let me cancel . Live chat is not available. And I can’t bring myself to phone the customer services number because I am too embarrassed. I am now going to have to wait for it all to arrive, in several separate packages it seems, and then do a walk of shame to the post office to return it.

It has definitely taken the fun out of bargain hunting and will make me more conscious in future not to go for things that are a step too far.

Meh. No point in returning stuff you’ve bought even if it’s a steal. They’ve had plenty of time to cancel orders and sort it themselves.

I sent back a pair of very expensive trainers that had been put in my order by mistake. Not so much as an acknowledgment. Probably would stick them cheap on Facebook next time.

The JL code has definitely been fixed so they are aware of the issue and I agree they have had plenty of time to cancel orders.

I did feel guilty initially but I'm starting to think more like you tbh. It's a multi million pound company. They can cancel the orders if they wish to

I really do not understand the hand wringing over John Lewis with a massive turnover compared to taking 90% off Celtic and co products, trying for free amazon pyjamas from a seller you know nothing about but could be one wee person in a bedroom in billericay or stacking WH Smith and other codes that are glitches.

If you feel guilty because you just piled stuff in as a frenzy I guess that’s on you.

If you keep the stuff from JL they still get some money out of it, if you return everything they make a loss on the cost of processing your order/return and the delivery costs.

It is a good reminder though not to get carried away as it is so easy to do when everyone around you is doing something.

Haudyourwheesht another book recommendation for 3-5s - Teddy Robinson books, and Milly Molly Mandy. My kids loved both (as did I when I was little too, was lovely to reread) and they're both short stories rather than chapters, so great at bedtime. Really sweet. Also both have beautiful illustrations by their authors.

We got this Polaroid 3D pen about 3 years ago and it’s still going strong.
