Anyone with kids that HASNT decorated yet?

Everyone on here seems to have!

My kids aren't young anymore but I remember putting my tree up around the 1st December when my dc were little and people saying that's too early .
Madness now that people are putting it up in November honestly not many people did this years ago . Grin

Joswis · 15/11/2020 15:01

Of course not. It's not even bl**dy December!

CraftyGin · 15/11/2020 15:02

We might start sometime after 20th December.

Smartiepants79 · 15/11/2020 15:03

Absolutely not. First weekend in December at the earliest. I’ve not idea why it’s suddenly become ok to start celebrating Christmas 8 weeks before it actually happens.
I think it’s weird. You can’t possibly keep up that level of enthusiasm for that long.

thismeansnothing · 15/11/2020 15:03

Oh god no. Will start to do a few bits on the first. Like the garland over the fireplace. Probably do the tree on the 11th and keep it up till 12th night

Catlover77 · 15/11/2020 15:04

It’s still November! Ordinarily we’d have a real tree up one week before Christmas and down on 5 January, at the latest.

However, in the current climate, we are going to go wild and buy a tree before mid December. Maybe even a little earlier

DrCoconut · 15/11/2020 15:07

When school breaks up is our usual time. It's not even advent yet.

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/11/2020 15:11

Nope. Nor have I bought any presents.

livingthegoodlife · 15/11/2020 15:13

Definitely not. I think it's weird!

Usually second weekend of December. I might go for first weekend this year as we aren't going away anywhere this year.

oobedobe · 15/11/2020 15:13

Not in November no.

We usually do 1st Dec for house decorations/candles/knick knacks, advent calendars, Christmas books come out. The twiggy tree. Then a week later maybe the fake white tree which goes in the family room.

The real tree I like to purchase a week before Christmas so it is fresh and still a novelty by Christmas day, but these days I am finding all the good trees are gone by then so this year will aim get it by 12/13th Dec.

stargirl1701 · 15/11/2020 15:13

No, we haven't. It's November.

Still to celebrate St Andrew's Day and observe Advent.

TenCornMaidens · 15/11/2020 15:13

Me. Will decorate first weekend of Dec. Otherwise we are all sick of it before Christmas.

kitschplease · 15/11/2020 15:15

second weekend of December is the plan here! We don't have a big house so will be tired of tripping over the tree by Christmas.

WhoopsSomethingWentWrong · 15/11/2020 15:15

I have kids, all my friends have kids and I don’t know a single person who has done it yet!
Having said that DH would do it if I agreed. I think he’s just so bloody bored and fed up he’ll do anything to make things more cheery!
We’ll do it the first weekend in December as normal.

SinkGirl · 15/11/2020 15:16

I absolutely love Christmas and normally I decorate at the start of December but I don’t know how to decorate this year. My twins are 4 now - they are both autistic, everything goes in their mouth. They are excellent climbers and will be able to reach anything I put up. Don’t even know how we will have a tree this year - last year we put it up late and still had most decorations on the top third only before Christmas. Luckily this also means the boys have no idea what Christmas is so they’re not going to miss it if we don’t, but how will they learn what Christmas is if we don’t?

It sucks.

Bitbusyattheminute · 15/11/2020 15:21

No. Mid December and down nyd. Nov is meant to be a bit boring and grim, so then you get the joy of preparing for Xmas to look forward to. Delayed gratification.

No one can wait for anything anymore.

dworky · 15/11/2020 15:23

Of course not. It's unfair on children to start Christmas excitement so early. One month is like six to a young child.

Sirzy · 15/11/2020 15:24

Nope. Ds is off school until 3rd December (please let lockdown end then) so we have said we will do it the evening of the 2nd before he goes back

FippertyGibbett · 15/11/2020 15:24

No indoor decorations, but outside are up to brighten up the gloom 🎄

MadamShazam · 15/11/2020 15:24

God, no! DP birthday is at the beginning of December so we don't put our decs up until after that. As much as I love Christmas, I don't want decorations hanging about for even longer than usual, gathering dust.

MrsOverall70 · 15/11/2020 15:25

Nope, we wait till first week of December at least, don't mind if others decorate early, each to their own. We have some army boys in our family so some of our lot start Christmas early as they often get sent away over Christmas and New Year, 🎄🎅🤶

MerylStropp · 15/11/2020 15:26

So many people decorate early and then on Boxing Day you see posts galore on Facebook like ‘tree down, decorations away. Got my house back’ because they are sick of them, to me I’d rather be a little later ( still early December) and at least have them until new year.

This. The feast of Christmas traditionally ends on 6 January, so it always puzzles me why folk put their decorations up so early (this year being something of an exception, obviously) only to take them down before New Year, right at the darkest time of year when having that bit of extra light and colour around could do a lot to cheer the soul.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/11/2020 15:27

Goodness no. Albeit Dd is 16. We never decorate until two weekends before Christmas. Usually the weekend of our Church family service - it sort of became a tradition. This year it will be the 13th December (and all down for NYE).

Bluntness100 · 15/11/2020 15:28

I’m ashamed to admit I put the garlands over the fireplaces and the wreaths up this morning. The tree I’ll do in December. I don’t even have young kids to blame. Although my adult daughter was egging me on 😂

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 15/11/2020 15:29

Nope. Advent Sunday here until just after New Year. A few people locally have put lights up outside though.
