We've got a week to go! I feel like this is the point when some people are completely finished and putting their feet up in anticipation, others are on the final run, and others are just getting started.

We're not hosting this year so I haven't had too much to do, but still on my list is:

  • Pick up the last few chocolate things for stockings
  • Take in delivery of the final present (hopefully soon...)
  • All the wrapping
  • Bake Christmas cookies, and maybe mince pies if I can be bothered
  • Attend a couple of Christmas parties this weekend
  • Buy some wine and cheeses (our contribution to Christmas dinner)
  • Pack for travelling to visit family

What do you still have left to do? I find these lists helpful in case I've forgotten something...

OP posts:
Star2015 · 18/12/2019 12:17

  • We are hosting my family for a Mexican meal on Sunday so I need to food / drink shop for that
  • Bake gingerbread cake for house warming Saturday and buy bottle for it
  • Bake gingerbread loaf for Sunday, prepare chocolate orange trifle and make food on Sunday
  • Clean house
  • Make sausage rolls for Christmas Eve
  • Make mince pies for Christmas Eve
  • Make Terrys chocolate orange and malteasers Christmas pudding for Christmas Day
  • Deliver presents to DH family
  • Paint nails

I’m at work until Monday, will be baking pastries
and bringing in M&S fizz for all the staff Monday, then meeting my mom for coffee and a cake before we go to Miller and Carter for tea.

Christmas Eve we have hot pork sandwiches at my parents, go to the carol service at church at 7.30pm then to our local Cricket club.

Can’t wait... it’s my full day work work today then I only have 13.5 hours (and counting left) until 2nd Jan!! Xmas Smile

Babdoc · 18/12/2019 12:39

On the final countdown. Just the perishable food to buy, local cards to deliver, carol singing round the village with the church, two more presents to wrap, the house to clean and the cooking to do.
One DD is vegetarian, so I’m making Delia’s sage, onion, cheese and parsnip roulade, rolled in crushed hazelnuts, for her meal.
The turkey stuffings are still to make, and the chocolate chestnut log for Christmas Eve.
But the tree is up and decorated (after a fight with a saw and secateurs!) the logs and kindling are stashed, the wine rack is full, and my annual treat of a Dovedale blue cheese has arrived from Derbyshire.
There is a large glass of Rioja Reserva waiting for me by the fire when I finish the roulade...! Grin

coconutty101 · 18/12/2019 12:40

#I've got a 2 more presents to wrap.
#The food shop (only 3 of us so won't take too long and need too much)
#Want to take my boy (1) to see some Xmas lights and santa.

Otherwise, I'm all Good and ready for Xmas!

EnglishRain · 18/12/2019 12:42

I am really behind for me this year. Few more presents to buy, everything to wrap, xmas dinner to plan. I'm off sick from work at the moment and tried to do some housework this morning but promptly vomited, thought the morning sickness was starting to calm down! House is an absolute tip so need to give it another go shortlyZ

Biancadelrioisback · 18/12/2019 12:50
  • Veg shopping
  • (more) booze shopping
  • card writing
  • picky things shopping
  • collect pre-ordered meats
  • wrap presents
  • buy remaining stocking things
  • work Xmas do tomorrow
  • girls Xmas do Friday

I think that's it!!

3littlemincemeatpies · 18/12/2019 12:54

I feel very calm and organised this year, first time ever all presents including stockings are wrapped and family presents are on their way to people. We don’t live near family and we aren't seeing anyone this Christmas so the deadline to have everything ordered and sent off before last post has helped.

Stuff left to do, but it’s nice stuff that I want to do....

Make gingerbread with girls, including a house which we have never done before!! 😳 Not sure how that’s going to turn off.

Waitrose shop is coming with all the nice bits tomorrow but still need to do the Christmas “food” shop, not panicking about that tonight, I figure as long as I can get, cream, butter, garlic & fresh herbs and a shit load of fizz we will be fine!! 😂

We have elves arriving on Saturday (local theatre company does a hire out elf service where they come to your house and basically be elvish...It’s fantastic!! We are also doing a wreath making workshop the same day so it’s going to be a really fun festive day.

Kids bikes need built from grandparents and we need to but ponies and lab few stocking fillers (carrots and dog treats before anyone thinks I’m completely off my head)

House clean, though as only the five of us and I’m enjoying not having to worry about being judged!! 😂

Bunnylady53 · 18/12/2019 13:00

Loads still to do so shouldn’t be on here lol 😂
Pressie wrapping
Cards to deliver
Big food shop
Can’t order meat at our butchers anymore so will pop in to choose a nice beef joint
Try to tidy up - we have a smallish house with not much storage so it’s difficult to put stuff away
Try to get DD to clear out her room ( incentive for sleepovers in the holidays)
Drive round locally to see the lights
Try to find some carols somewhere
Go to a Christmas tree festival at a local museum
Get a fringe cut & shave my pits!!
Christmas crafts with DD
Remind DH to bake mince pies & GF sausage rolls
Plan Christmas Eve meal ( working but as yet no idea what time I finish which is a real pain)
Borrow festive piano music from the library
Plan Christmas Day outfit
Phew! Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄🎄🎄🎁🎇🎆🎉🎈🎅🤶🏻

fruityconfusedhotdog · 18/12/2019 13:06

I think I've done about everything I can at this stage. Asda grocery delivery on Sunday and picking up the M&S order on Monday. Then frantically assembling toys on Christmas Eve (nowhere to store once assembled so can't be done in advance).

It's DD's school Christmas concert this afternoon so should be feeling quite festive after that! And DS's pre-school class were due a visit from Father Christmas this morning, so I can imagine he'll be very excited when I pick him up! Eeee!

BiddyPop · 18/12/2019 13:07

There is a real tree lying on the playroom floor (horizontally), and crates of decorations stacked up to put on it. The garland is in a large bag beside those crates. (At least we have BOUGHT the tree!).

There is a spare bed covered in shopping bags all to be wrapped. The other spare bed is covered in various things thrown there, and my suitcase from a work trip on Monday that I need to empty out.

There is a bundle of cards to post in my bag at work with me (but it's pouring rain so that is a job for en route home).

I have got most of my "stores" shopping done and the last due tomorrow night (online order), and some fresh stuff in that. But I have no meat yet (I'll find a turkey locally over the weekend, or something else nice to replace it with), or cheese (cheesemonger near my office and 2 nice delis near home), or cooked meats and fish for 24th (again, local delis and M&S near the office mostly).

Lots of housework and tidying to be done. Cleaners are coming tomorrow (8am!!), so that helps. But I need to tackle a lot of jobs tonight (last night, there were school issues to sort so no festive prep got done). DD is out for 2 hours tonight so I will get a chance to get on with it.

I would like to get some more firewood on Saturday.

Work is manic - and lots needs to get finished (hence my procrastination here for a while....I'm in denial).
DD is now travelling abroad over the holidays with her hockey team, so that needs organising - and also our family travel schedule needs serious re-adjustment....

And someone else in the extended family has decided that because I was doing something, she now MUST do something that she hasn't done for the past 5 years.....also hitting our family schedule (and potentially knocking OUR event OFF the calendar....)

Both of which have a knock-on effect that I may need to send things to different places for others I expected to see in my house or elsewhere - hopefully I will get enough information tonight to start cracking on with those changes.

And I have no idea what we have got/are getting for DD's birthday, and I definitely don't have a present for DH yet....agh!!

DamsonDress · 18/12/2019 14:05

@breastfeeding

Give yourself a break. You are still miles ahead than most people (albeit not on this thread but MN does tend to be full of formidable powerhouses who make the rest of mere mortals look like inept crapbags Grin).

You are nearly done. And even if you weren't it Really Doesn't Matter - if you have missed a few things it's not the end of the world. But you're nearly there.

You're putting pressure on yourself by comparing yourself to your hyper-organised previous self. Don't. Compare yourself to the rest of us normal people who couldn't give a stuff and realise that you are still very organised and almost done with still an entire week to go! Go you!

BearSoFair · 18/12/2019 14:09

The big food shop! Planned for Sunday
Drop a present to my friend, hopefully tomorrow or Friday
Remember where I put the Christmas tablecloth and placemats
Wrap DH's presents
Confirm plans for visiting family on the 28th

deplorabelle · 18/12/2019 14:09

@breastfeeding that sounds really tough. Are there any shortcuts you can take on wrapping to make things easier? Put things in gift bags maybe? Or festively decorated cardboard boxes?

Milicentbystander72 · 18/12/2019 14:10

Due to work deadlines and wider family stress....

Half of my present shopping
All of the food shop except the turkey

😬😬😬😬😬😬
