We've got a week to go! I feel like this is the point when some people are completely finished and putting their feet up in anticipation, others are on the final run, and others are just getting started.

We're not hosting this year so I haven't had too much to do, but still on my list is:

  • Pick up the last few chocolate things for stockings
  • Take in delivery of the final present (hopefully soon...)
  • All the wrapping
  • Bake Christmas cookies, and maybe mince pies if I can be bothered
  • Attend a couple of Christmas parties this weekend
  • Buy some wine and cheeses (our contribution to Christmas dinner)
  • Pack for travelling to visit family

What do you still have left to do? I find these lists helpful in case I've forgotten something...

I always am very jealous of people who are fine and dusted by November 1st. I have never ever been able to manage this.

MurrayTheMonk · 18/12/2019 14:15

Wrap the last presents that have just arrived and all presents for DD's stockings.

Email about two things ordered 10 days ago that haven't shown up.

Host Christmas drinks for immediate neighbours.

Buy two bloody Xmas jumpers for DD's Xmas jumper day (half day actually Angry) on Friday.

Wrap dd1's birthday presents (it's Boxing Day) and get her balloons for morning of (which will have to do Christmas Eve).

Check restaurant booking for dd1 and friends dinner for her birthday on Boxing Day. And as helpfully suggested by exh check dress code too. Unsure why he can't pick phone up himself and do this.

Deliver Christmas presents to exH's house which is where the DD's will be waking up.

Buy food for family Christmas with my family this weekend.

Drive 200 miles and cook it!

Go to work on Christmas Day and be on call for the whole county.

Resist the idea of cancelling the whole thing Grin

MurrayTheMonk · 18/12/2019 14:19

Also deliver all presents to friends and DD's friends. Forgot about that part.

mumontherun14 · 18/12/2019 14:24

Get something for DD to wear on Christmas day
Last bits of wrapping

Secret santa gift for my DD for party on Sat
Take DS& DD to buy small gifts for family
Food shop on Sat for Dsis & family coming for meal on Sat evening
Christmas food shop - not hosting but need to get desserts to take from m&S
Get some gifts for carers at Mums nursing home
Pick up some bits for my elderly dad to give as gifts
Post last cards & deliver cards to neighbours
Take DD to ice skating
Make Gingerbread house with DD
Bake cookies on Xmas eve - get ingredients
Drop off gifts to my friend and nephew/niece

Did loads earlier in Dec but waiting to get paid tommorow for last gifts but I'm off work from tommorow so still a few days to get it all done x

Squirrelblanket · 18/12/2019 16:03

I've finished work today until 2020 and been working from home the last two days, so I've already got quite a bit done in the house.

My list:

  • buy pies for FIL gift (tomo)
  • last few bits from local town shops (tomo)
  • change beds (Fri)
  • deep clean bathroom (Fri)
  • facemask and paint nails Crown Grin (Fri)
  • final big shop (Sat)
  • visit in-laws (Sat)

Then Christmas officially begins on Sunday.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 18/12/2019 16:04

I still have a few bits to do but nothing major:

Big shop on Friday with a few extras like fizz, more chocolates and some extra snacks

Big tidy of the kitchen and dining table so we can actually cook and eat in the kitchen properly

Wrap the last few presents arriving this week

Find DS's stocking that's gone walkabout from the Christmas box

Work out timings for Christmas Day to fit everything in without overwhelming DS

Tidy the house - it's already not bad but the living room needs a spruce up

I think that's it. Only 2 more days to do it all, I want to be able to relax come the weekend!

BiddyPop · 18/12/2019 16:38

Cards now posted.
Crisps from this morning’s M&S shopping in my hand on train.
Actually on time, and got a seat on train so should get some prep/decorating time tonight.
And whatever’s not done by 25th, is not done (I’ll find something for DH though...)

Whattheduck · 18/12/2019 16:39

Today and tomorrow I planned to get my last few Christmas presents but I’m full of cold so have wrapped the presents I have got today and hoping I feel up to venturing out tomorrow
I will do my food shop on Monday (only need to get fresh food) I’ve got all my cupboard bits already
Cleaning/change the beds etc
Apart from that I’ve decided I’m not stressing about anything

Deelish75 · 18/12/2019 17:25

Drop off present for my hairdresser
Deliver neighbours and local friends cards - do them both on Sat morning.
Finalise food delivery
Booked to see Santa on Sat afternoon
Pick up ordered food on Sunday
Finish wrapping kids and DPs presents
Cook my gammon ready for Boxing Day
Pick up veg and salad on Christmas Eve morning
Double check what time Rotary club Father Christmas sleigh is coming on Christmas Eve (usually around 6).
And I think that’s it!!

I’m just not used to feeling out of control and it’s a struggle. Dh is working so much and finding time to do anything has been so so hard.
I skipped toddler group today and dd watched peppa and played with some shakers I made from pasta and stuff which enabled me to do a lot of pre Xmas cleaning I figured if it’s dusted today it really doesn’t need doing again before next week.
Later on I’ve decided I’ll try to wrap the stocking bits and put in named bags so I don’t muddle it all up.

I’ve asked Dh tonight if we can sit down and spend 15/20 mins checking the online food orders for the weekend and 23rd then I think I’ll feel a bit more relaxed
Dh needs to put a few things together as well for dc he said he will get up early one day to do it and hide them after so at least that will get done

I think I just felt sorry for myself earlier as was overwhelmed, there’s so much pressure and so much to do

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 18/12/2019 18:32
  • Wrap 5 presents;
  • Clean the house (normal weekly clean as the deep clean was done a couple of weeks' ago);
  • Pack for weekend away / have weekend away;
  • Remove ham from freezer and put in fridge to cook on return from weekend away;
  • Bake cookies, Nigella's muffins and mince pies on Christmas Eve;
  • Fire up camping fridge to chill booze;
  • Go to Tesco and Booths on Christmas Eve to collect last bits and ALL the cheese!

It's not too bad a list really.

TrickyD · 18/12/2019 19:12

Wrap presents
Think of some small things for DGS’s, 16, stocking; DGD 14 sorted.
Local cards plus electronic ones
Make Rocky Road, brandy butter, chocolate yule log and marzipan fruits.
Sort out beds for those staying.

CherryPavlova, I will pass on your mice pies, but our cat says they sound good.

Clean the bathroom.
Sew a button on a cardigan for baby due on Christmas Eve (and post it)
Shop on Friday for everything bar the turkey.
Bake mince pies.
Pick up the turkey on Christmas Eve.

Star2015 · 18/12/2019 19:46

Baggies -

The Terrys chocolate orange trifle is the Sainsburys magazine recipe - if you google you will find it.

The terrys chocolate orange and malteasers Christmas pudding is basically malteasers stuck to a terrys chocolate orange using melted dairy milk. Use a glass to balance the orange to help you, then melt white chocolate on the top and use icing to make a holly.

The gingerbread loaf is Janes pattiserie receipe.

I’ve (hopefully) attached photos for you...

Enjoy!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 18/12/2019 19:55

Buy turkey and veg first thing on 23rd
Make brandy butter, cranberry sauce (already have the cranberries) and more mince pies
Make another stuffing - one already in the freezer
More wrapping, but mostly done
A few more decorations up tomorrow, since little Gdcs coming to stay the night.
Find some gluten-free gravy for a SiL, who probably won't want it anyway, but would rather be able to offer.
Buy another pack of chocolate coated Brazil nuts for dh's stocking, to replace the ones I've scoffed on the quiet. 🐷

Drabarni · 18/12/2019 19:58

Food shop, delivering a couple of cards and pressies.
Normal housework, wrapping presents.
Organising what we are doing and when.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/12/2019 20:04

Wrap presents
Pack for holiday
Go on holiday

And get the house ready for New Year's Day which we hosting after returning from holiday on the 31st.

wowfudge · 18/12/2019 20:11

I feel like I'm ahead as I've finished the Christmas shopping.

Still to do: put decs up and get tree, wrap presents, make pastry then mince pies, make marzipan and decorate Christmas cake, tidy and clean spare bedroom, buy cheese to take to family members we're staying with, make some truffles/petits fours.

I finish work on Friday so feel as though I've got loads of time! I'll go shopping on Friday, do the baking/cooking stuff on Saturday, wrap presents on Sunday and take it easy on Monday.

Eminybob · 18/12/2019 20:11

Buy all the food and booze
Wrap the presents (except stocking presents as they are already done)
Bake cake (chocolate orange as we don’t do Christmas cake in this house)
I think that’s it.

Dh still has to pick up some presents, which I’ll probably end up doing for him despite swearing I wouldn’t as I’ve sorted absolutely everything else out.

SlayBellsRing · 18/12/2019 20:11
