We've got a week to go! I feel like this is the point when some people are completely finished and putting their feet up in anticipation, others are on the final run, and others are just getting started.

We're not hosting this year so I haven't had too much to do, but still on my list is:

  • Pick up the last few chocolate things for stockings
  • Take in delivery of the final present (hopefully soon...)
  • All the wrapping
  • Bake Christmas cookies, and maybe mince pies if I can be bothered
  • Attend a couple of Christmas parties this weekend
  • Buy some wine and cheeses (our contribution to Christmas dinner)
  • Pack for travelling to visit family

What do you still have left to do? I find these lists helpful in case I've forgotten something...

I've got to buy the presents tomorrow and wrap them tomorrow evening
Do the food shop
Hand out Christmas cards.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 22/12/2019 20:16

Finish wrapping tonight and clean the house tomorrow then that's me done

wowfudge · 22/12/2019 20:31

I'm behind schedule now - was planning on doing nothing tomorrow - and still need to wrap family presents and decorate the Christmas cake. I have marzipanned the cake and made the decorations, just need to ice and stick the decorations on. Also got some cleaning to do and Christmas cards to put up.

TrickyD · 22/12/2019 20:55

Most of the jobs on my list upthread have been completed.
Slight spanner in works to discover today that one of our Christmas dinner guests is a vegan.
Our DIL is a vegan but she is with her mum this Christmas. We were happily remarking on how this simplified the cooking then heard about the guest. It will be fine. Crown Smile

mamaduckbone · 22/12/2019 21:29

Just done some wrapping but still got all the kids' presents to do.
Big food shop done but a few bits still to pick up.
Making mince pies and Gingerbread tomorrow.
Planning to be sorted by tomorrow afternoon so I can collapse and chill with my dsis, who arrived today.

lucysmam · 23/12/2019 11:55

I am down to wrap the girls' gifts on my list Xmas Grin.

I have tetrised the fridge, in preparation for refrigerator jenga, this morning. & both freezers are full so we don't need to do a shop over the next couple of weeks.

I'm just clearing the washing basket now, and am going to while away an hour making mince pies Xmas Smile.

I think I'll shove the hoover round, and mop the living room, at some point tomorrow after our walk to the market.

Musidora · 24/12/2019 11:06

Nearly there now! The only 2 jobs on my list for today are:

  • pop to the shop to get a couple more bottles of drink
  • travel to see family Xmas Smile

Just need to prep veg for tomorrow now as all food has been collected.
DH needs to assemble the table and chairs for DS tomorrow (the top flips over to make a duplo board). Planning to store all his duplo he has been given in it.
Think a nice bubble bath later as well so I feel all refreshed

Ninkanink · 24/12/2019 11:21

Today we’re parboiling the potatoes and prepping for roasting tomorrow, and making the braised red cabbage. We’ve changed tack and are going to have a mini Christmas dinner just for the two of us (guinea fowl and all the trimmings!)

TrickyD · 24/12/2019 12:18

Clues for pre-supper treasure hunt positioned
Tea towels all washed and dried
Raspberry coulis made for the unexpectedly vegan guest to go with vegan ice cream
Puff pastry defrosting ready to be made into a Nutella Christmas tree cake for this evening.
Realise DGD has one more present in her stocking than DGS but thinking sod it, too bad.

In danger of inventing pointless jobs just because it is Christmas Eve.

lucysmam · 24/12/2019 14:23

I'm almost done!! Two gifts to wrap & supervise dd1 cooking sausage rolls in the kitchen & that is IT apart from being Santa once the girls are in bed Xmas Grin

& it's not even 2:30pm yet!!!! I am rather chuffed with myself; I'm usually organised, but not this organised!

TrickyD · 24/12/2019 15:05

Well done Lucysmam
All done here now
Off for a nap in bed, possibly dropping off listening to the 9 lessons and Carol service.
DGCs, DS2 and his DGF arriving at 6 to stay overnight, apart from DGF who will go to her mum’s.
Happy Christmas everyone!

lucysmam · 24/12/2019 15:15

Thanks @TrickyD! It feels really good but a bit weird - I'm looking round wondering what on Earth I've missed but even dd2's birthday presents are wrapped ready to put under the tree (her request) on 27th ready for 28th.

Enjoy your nap and visitors.

Merry Christmas to you all Xmas Smile

ThatsMySantaHisBeardIsSoFluffy · 24/12/2019 15:42

We just have a few more presents to wrap really. I might get the Christmas tablecloth and mats down later, if I can be bothered!

lucysmam · 24/12/2019 16:22

Hmmm, well, I thought I was done but dd1 has just appeared with one of her gifts for dd2 (they're wrapping for me atm) which happens to be an awkwardly shaped soft toy penguin. She has stashed it down here so i can help hold the awkward bits later on Xmas Hmm

TrickyD · 24/12/2019 16:28

Lucysmam our DS2’s birthday is on the 28th too. You are so organised in getting your DD’s presents sorted out in advance. Our poor DS2 always drew the short straw as we tended to forget all about it. Easier now, money is the answer.

ffswhatnext · 24/12/2019 18:04

It's hard having a birthday this time of year. People forget, too busy etc.
On the day now we do something small to celebrate and a couple of presents just to mark the occasion. Then a couple of months later we have a proper party for him.
I was surprised when the older sibligs suggested it. I had considered it, but thought it wouldn't be fair on them and I didn't want to raise it with them in case they felt put on the spot or something.

lucysmam · 24/12/2019 18:04

I have, not so much forgotten, but thought I had plenty of time between Christmas day and 28th, in previous years so this year I ordered & bought as I started the bulk of the Christmas gifts for both of them. I quite like being so sorted & organised!

rosydreams · 24/12/2019 20:19

i feel like its gone a bit off route. My other half's childhood friend is meant to be staying he has had a awful year his wife left him for someone, his absent mother continually making his life hell and he got mugged a week ago.So as he has no one we bought him a mega bus ticket to come stay with us.Today bloody google maps sent him to the wrong place so he missed his bus.Now my other half has to drive 2hrs to go get him .

So after spending the day cleaning, making biscuits with my daughter, feeding children, washing both children, putting them to bed including a restless baby.I have to do his chores as well due to him not being here.

The floor of the kitchen is filthy,i am starting to think i should not have baked with my daughter there is so much to clean,i am glad i bought my eldest daughter pizza as less cleaning but still some relaxing evening this is going to be .please send wine
