70s Christmas

Hi.
DH and I are doing a 70s themed Christmas this year. We're ridiculously excited about it actually. Grin.

Now, I've been getting the decorations in bit by bit. No problems with vintage fairy lights, baubles, foil garlands, daft looking fairies etc. But I cannot seem to find a silver tinsel tree ANYWHERE.

And I really want one.

Am I too early in the year? Does anyone have any idea where I might find what I'm after? All I've been able to find is tiny 2ft ones. I want 5ft at LEAST.

I don’t know where to get one but your planning and dedication to this in July is admirable. Good luck!

70sWitch · 29/07/2019 14:40

Thank you. Smile

Somewhere like Paperchase might have what you’re after but will maybe not til about October time.

Yogagirl123 · 29/07/2019 20:12

😂 hehe and I thought I was an organised person! Sounds fab though OP.

GreyGardens88 · 29/07/2019 20:12

I bought one from Wilko last year, 3 foot. Looked fab with bright coloured baubles on.

ScreamingValenta · 29/07/2019 20:14

Have you tried eBay for a true vintage one? You need that slightly plasticky, not very shiny tinsel for the real 70s vibe!

70sWitch · 29/07/2019 20:48

Organised, obsessed, what's the difference? Grin

Wilkos! Why didn't I think of that? Clearly I'm slipping.

I've been all over eBay, no luck so far but it IS a bit early. But I agree, authentic is better if I can get it.
Thanks for all the replies guys.

You could decorate a tree with lammetta strands. I also remember tissue paper garlands in the 70's (I think foil ones were more of an 80's thing)

Rarfy · 29/07/2019 21:00

Try studio they have trees in all year round I think.

70sWitch · 29/07/2019 21:28

I considered lametta but the cat likes to chew on the tree. I don't want the silly sod choking.

Studio is another good idea. I think I'm just going to have to be patient. It's too early for trees. Sad

You do realise you’ll have to spend at least half the day wearing your new Carmen rollers whilst cooking the dry-as-dust turkey, don’t you?

70sWitch · 29/07/2019 21:35

Im aware Grin. DH is getting a bottle of Hai Karate and some purple flares lol.

Expect some Charlie or Tweed perfume in your stocking.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/07/2019 21:45

Are you making a Blue Peter Advent crown?

EvelynShaw · 29/07/2019 21:46

God, I looked everywhere for one of these last year. Let us know if you find one!

NomDeQwerty · 29/07/2019 21:51

Try to find an old size Quality Street tin about 5 times larger than the current offering
You'll also need actual nuts in their shells and an orange for the toe of a long hiking sock used as a stocking.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/07/2019 21:52

Paper streamers and decorations? I was so upset when my mum threw ours out.

IggyAce · 29/07/2019 21:56

Our local wyevale garden centre had a silver tree last year, it was 5 or 6ft however I am sure it was a ridiculous price.

Pipandmum · 29/07/2019 21:59

There are white ones on Amazon and I remember my cousin having an all white totally fake looking tree in the early 80s. Wayfair sells silver and white but out of stock at the moment. Try Etsy closer to the season.

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/07/2019 21:59

Are these too tasteful www.re-foundobjects.com/product/view/paper-streamers

On one of the Christmas threads last year someone posted a link to a site that had trees of every colour you could think of. Maybe they will see your thread?

70sWitch · 29/07/2019 22:00

Lol at the advent crown. We discussed it but DH vetoed. No satsuma in HIS stocking.

Am loving the ideas on here. Very helpful. Smile.

Am replacing a lot of stuff I remember from my childhood, but any ideas are welcome.

Those paper streamers are a bit modern looking. Very pretty though.
