70s Christmas

Hi.
DH and I are doing a 70s themed Christmas this year. We're ridiculously excited about it actually. Grin.

Now, I've been getting the decorations in bit by bit. No problems with vintage fairy lights, baubles, foil garlands, daft looking fairies etc. But I cannot seem to find a silver tinsel tree ANYWHERE.

And I really want one.

Am I too early in the year? Does anyone have any idea where I might find what I'm after? All I've been able to find is tiny 2ft ones. I want 5ft at LEAST.

No I'm not your dh.

Although it has been said I think more like a man than a woman apparently. (I think they mean I have blinkers when it comes to mess and forget a lot of stuff that I'm asked to do Grin)

SoMuchToBits · 12/08/2019 19:18

I was going to suggest Cinzano and Babycham, but I see you have those covered. How about a bottle of Asti Spumante?

And don't forget the matchmakers!

70sWitch · 12/08/2019 19:41

fortheloveofPete. Ah, so you are, in fact, me. Grin
Blue Nun anyone?

Blue Nun, Black Tower or Matteus Rose

Cheese & pineapple on sticks, rammed into a foil covered potato

Fake snow sprayed on your windows (absolute bastard to get off, probably still there in March)

MissDew · 13/08/2019 10:39

I've got, 'Carols from Winchester Cathedral' on an LP that used to belong to my Grandparents. I've also got, 'Carols from Bath Cathedral' which used to belong to my parents. Or was it the other way around ?

Anyway, do I play them on Christmas Day every year ? Yes I do. One of my many nostalgia moments.

I say lets have some dolce right up your jubilate !

70sWitch · 13/08/2019 23:27

LP? Blimey it's been years since I had a record player.

I hope you are going to hide the remote so you need to get up to change TV channels

sashh · 14/08/2019 10:25

If you want to be really really 70s one year my mum go a branch of a tree and spray painted it silver.

I do remember the components of the hedgehog - pineapple and cheese on a cocktail stick- but I have no memory of the hedgehog itself. I take it this apparition was the height of 70s sophistication.

The hedgehog is half a cabbage covered in tin foil.

You should be making your cake now so it can mature and be iced in december.

Do't forget sine glasses that are either green or orange or tiny with a long green stem.

I hope you are going to hide the remote so you need to get up to change TV channels

Get a black and white TV from ebay for the real experience.

Get a black and white TV from ebay for the real experience.

Switch it off at 10pm and see if the little white dot appears in the middle of the screen.

Find a copy of Radio Times or T.V. times from the seventies on e-bay or anywhere. See you can schedule Christmas t.v. from back then on You Tube using the t.v. guide as an er um, guide.

iklboo · 14/08/2019 20:07

See if you can find Xmas episodes of Top of The Pops anywhere.

iklboo · 14/08/2019 20:07

Oh, and Morecambe & Wise.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 14/08/2019 20:21

You'll need a 70s apron. And get up at 5am to put the turkey on.

As someone has said before you must track down a 70s TOTP (they're always on in the run up to Christmas) and watch in the middle of the afternoon.

70sWitch · 14/08/2019 21:53

For 70s telly YouTube is your friend as is DailyMotion. And I have a few other streaming sites to check out but less hopeful about the older stuff on those.

DH has been trying to source a 70s Christmas Radio Times but they're really dear. Might have to pretend lol.

Despite it being the 70s, I won't be cooking I shall inform DH of his 5am start. He can choose his own apron. I'm not unreasonable. 😂

Love your decorations! We had those lantern lights and foil decorations when I was little so I'm getting nostalgic. Please watch The Good Life Christmas special for inspiration (I watch it every year!)
