70s Christmas

Hi.
DH and I are doing a 70s themed Christmas this year. We're ridiculously excited about it actually. Grin.

Now, I've been getting the decorations in bit by bit. No problems with vintage fairy lights, baubles, foil garlands, daft looking fairies etc. But I cannot seem to find a silver tinsel tree ANYWHERE.

And I really want one.

Am I too early in the year? Does anyone have any idea where I might find what I'm after? All I've been able to find is tiny 2ft ones. I want 5ft at LEAST.

Thank you!

Check out the charity shops, I got some lovely Babycham glasses in one.

user1493494961 · 31/07/2019 19:45

What about a chocolate smokers set or a huge box of Milk Tray with a picture of a thatched cottage on the front.

Purplehammer · 31/07/2019 20:33

Far too late to put the sprouts on now.
They’ll still be green on the day and not a lovely pale yellow.
Time to stand in front of the mirror and practice saying moist repeatedly. ‘‘Tis the most used word on the day.

70sWitch · 31/07/2019 21:23

@Yutes. You're welcome. Xmas Smile

@user1493494961 DH is on the babycham glasses funnily enough. Great minds...

@Purplehamner And not to worry, the sprouts have been on since May. Xmas Grin

Can we come to your Christmas? It sounds great Grin !

Bluthbanana · 01/08/2019 13:37

This thread is amazing!

DH despairs at me insisting on festooning our tree in coloured lights. I need to make it my life's mission to get a hold of some tulip lights now.

70sWitch · 01/08/2019 13:42

Can recommend eBay for all your vintage fairy light needs.

Go for it. Grin

You're going to be disappointed opening your asvent calendar and having no chocolate.
I love those tree decorations.
You also need those pipe cleaner people type decorations, we still bring them out each year.

70sWitch · 01/08/2019 13:53

Ha! I always buy the old fashioned advent calendars anyway. Prefer them. As long as there's loads of glitter on them Xmas Grin

Wow this thread. I love a 'proper' tree
Multicoloured fairy lights (with twinkle and fast flash mode). Beautiful coloured Christmas ornaments. I LOATHE JOHN LEWIS THEMED ONE COLOUR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS. Slap it all on. Bring back tinsel and lashings of it.

Love the massive quality street tins and the snowball drink suggestions.

70sWitch · 07/08/2019 18:20

We are DEFINTELY having a "proper" tree with coloured lights, tinsel and a cheesy fairy. But I do want a tinsel tree too. Have found some multi coloured baubles that are EXACTLY like the ones my gran had when I was a nipper. Xmas Grin I'm thrilled.

Going to download a load of 70s Christmas Specials too. Morecambe and Wise anyone?

But... which Bond film? That's the big question. 🎄 💻🎄

Sounds fantastic! I have a 70s Christmas every year, as far as the decorations go anyway. You just can’t beat non-co-ordinated baubles and bits of tinsel everywhere. I also have lots of paper decorations like the bell in this picture. I have a traditional 70s advent calendar, and invested in some vintage crepe paper crackers one year off eBay, but didn’t have the heart to use them.

fluffiphlox · 07/08/2019 18:35

We had a silver Christmas tree in the 70s. For true authenticity, it has to be really spindly and sparsely decorated.

AuntieMarys · 07/08/2019 18:36

This is fantastic....and I hate Xmas!!!!
I am tempted to do this.
Don't forget making dcs write Thank you letters on Boxing Day

TheBigBallOfOil · 07/08/2019 18:41

Surely prawn cocktail for starter?
And Elizabeth shaw mints after.
I have those anyway, I love them so much.
Potato croquettes as well as roasties. In fact at least three different types of spud is mandatory.

70sWitch · 07/08/2019 18:54

am taking notes. Xmas Grin

zen1 I actually have that listing in my watch list. Not sure though. Seems a lot of ££

And yes. Everyone keeps telling me the silver tree has to look a bit moth eaten lol. I suppose I'll cope. Confused

Chanellta · 07/08/2019 18:58

I've gone all nostalgic now, tinsel, soda syphons, babycham - proper Christmas

70sWitch · 07/08/2019 18:59

Chanelta yep. 🎄🎄🎄
