70s Christmas

Hi.
DH and I are doing a 70s themed Christmas this year. We're ridiculously excited about it actually. Grin.

Now, I've been getting the decorations in bit by bit. No problems with vintage fairy lights, baubles, foil garlands, daft looking fairies etc. But I cannot seem to find a silver tinsel tree ANYWHERE.

And I really want one.

Am I too early in the year? Does anyone have any idea where I might find what I'm after? All I've been able to find is tiny 2ft ones. I want 5ft at LEAST.

@StrumpersPlunkett. She's fab. Based on my ABIU thread I have decided on a spot clean followed by a gentle hand wash if necessary.

We had silverskin onions on our hedgehog-some cheese and pineapple and some cheese and onion (I don't think onion and pineapple would have gone together)

I read in a Christmas magazine that the royal family has a 30+ year old silver tinsel tree at Sandringham. So it's you AND the Queen this year!

Ooooh. I feel proper posh now. 👑

I know these are much too old for you but worth sharing .
They were bought in 1951 by DH’s father to drape around 6 month old DH’s cot !
We still get them out every year and very carefully use them on a garland . Only ever switched on for an hour at a time and never left unattended !
Reminds self to search eBay for some spare bulbs !
DH is 68 now. His dad died when DH was 21 so these have a very special place in our family . MIL always raises a sherry , or 3 , to them !

Every single thing mentioned on here sounds delightful!
Our Christmas tree is the cheesiest, most tacky tree in the local area and I love it. Nothing matches; coloured lights, handmade decorations from the kids, loads of tinsel and, of course, the tree has to lean merrily to one side.
And, I'm not sure if you have kids, but if you do you just record them opening every single present on a video camera and not on your phone.

Oh I'm glad you found one !!!
Enjoy going back in time !!!

Well. We can still have a good time. Xmas Grin

LP? Blimey it's been years since I had a record player.

Bush classic turntable is £25 in Sainsbury’s or Argos do one for £30. Track yourself down a Bing Crosby LP (I have one, it is Christmas personified!) and you’re set. Not bad for a Christmas present!

70sWitch · 23/09/2019 18:02

Bought a record player for my DM a few years ago. She got quite excited and dug out a million old records Grin.
I wonder if she's still got it.

If not, I may look into getting one.
Thanks
