DS chose a dinosaur fingerling for his treat from the toy shop last week and it is good so far. I was thinking of getting him one for Christmas so that's off the list now!

I'm going to get DD a Polly Pocket and maybe a CryBabies magic tears. She definitely doesn't need any more soft toys so the pomsies etc aren't on the list.
I have decided we don't need any HP Lego!

ziggiestardust · 01/09/2018 12:52

Pokemon Let’s Go (Pikachu or Eevee) comes out on Nintendo Switch in December, along with the pokeball interactive controller. DS (8) will absolutely be after that and I’ve pre ordered them both. I think Super Smash Bros comes out on the Switch around the same time too.

Ordered a dinosaur fingerling this morning as a result of this thread!

These are some of the must-have girls toys this year thetoptoys.blogspot.com/2018/09/what-is-she-asking-for-this-year.html#more

louise5754 · 01/09/2018 15:46

Thanks @Ricekrispie22 my daughters are getting one thing from that list. They have the older versions of most on there and don't bother with them x

snowmanshoes · 01/09/2018 15:57

All the styles of rainbocorn are in stock on smyths website. When I went on the other day several were out of stock. Just snapped up the unicorn one.

WeeM · 01/09/2018 19:21

My dd constantly watches Netflix these days so doesn’t see adverts - which is good in a way as she isnt constantly saying she wants crap, but on the other hand it would be good if I knew something she wanted!
I’ve already stashed an lol under wraps as she loves them. I don’t mind them as she does play with them all the time.
A few other good ideas here though. Might look into the rainbocorn thing and think she’d like polly pockets too.

WeeM · 01/09/2018 19:26

Jeez, £25 for that rainbocorn thing though Shock

Saymaname · 01/09/2018 19:41

So that’s dd(4) sorted, but ds(10) any ideas there? He’s asked for v bucks and magnetic dart board

bookmum08 · 01/09/2018 19:56

Other than the Harry Potter Lego most of what has been mentioned sounds like a load of old rubbish and the kids only want it cos the media tells them they want it. I say that as someone who worked in the toy section of Woolies for a decade.
I really hope Lego finally get round to releasing the Powerpuff Girls sets by Christmas.
For me obviously..The child can have some coal.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 01/09/2018 21:00

bookmum it's a load of rubbish that they will love and totally depends on the child. My dd last year asked for a fingerling. She plays with it all the time and asked for another for her birthday in June so he had a friend! So I know the wrapples or pomsies (still undecided) will be a hit as she loves cats and unicorns!! However lego would be wasted on her, She isn't interested in building large buildings or playing once it's built.

We don't have a tv so they don't tend to see adverts, we just see them in shops and if they ask we watch the YouTube advert/videos to see what they are like.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 01/09/2018 21:23

@ziggiestardust thank you so much. I just pre-ordered this for my son

duckling84 · 01/09/2018 21:40

bookmum I was the powerpuff girls lego sets in the lego shop 2 weeks ago....

WaitingForSunday17 · 01/09/2018 21:48

Both mine have no interest in LEGO / duplo either so would be a waste of money for us also.
My daughter however loves little figures and things that would be classed as plastic tat!

bookmum08 · 01/09/2018 21:49

nocuts I was being a bit tongue in cheek about a lot of these toys being a 'load of old rubbish'. Like everything it depends on the personality of the child. A lot of children however do get caught up in the media/playground talk of what they 'must have' rather than asking Father Christmas for something that they really would prefer.
Often, back in my Woolworths days, the 'must have' toy would always be in short supply - usually completely running out just before Christmas Eve leaving stressed mums and potential heart broken kids. However quite often we would be told by Head Office that the next batch would be scheduled to arrive in the UK (from the factories in China) by (for example) December 27th and would be distributed to stores asap. So often by Dec 29/30 ish they are back on the shelf. Cue the customer comments "that's silly - no one wants them now". Well either the child does want that toy or they don't. If they want it on December 25th surely they want it on December 29th. A fancy IOU and apology letter from Father Christmas saying he is "sorry for the delay. The Elves worked really hard but they ran out of time" would be quite exciting for some children. Some of course would just spend Christmas Day sobbing over and over. Christmas + Children certainly gets interesting. I am glad I am out of the retail world now. I essentially hated Christmas for two decades.

bookmum08 · 01/09/2018 21:52

duckling84 was it !! Ooooh. Excited.
WaitingForSunday17 believe me my daughter loves to have piles and piles of collectable plastic nonsense too. Quite often the stocking filler Shopkin is her favourite thing.

Grammy78 · 01/09/2018 21:56

With the Rainbocorns, have all the animals got a horn? Also, they all look the same to me!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 01/09/2018 22:04

book sorry I'm not great at understanding tone in text 😶 I'm sure you saw some real sights at christmas.... shopping brings out the worst in people especually when theres a good offer. And you are right if they want it they can wait for it. last year for dd1 the elves had to ship something from China that hadn't arrived in time for Christmas, she was v excited about the Chinese writing on the packaging 😂

I think for some parents being able to get THE toy becomes competitive and a way of buying love when actually they need to spend time with them and listen to what they like. (Although no matter how much dds enthuse about slime/tell me constantly about how amazing it is, it will not come into my house. slime will be their 'mr frosty' they never got. Dh is still upset he never had one 😂)

MsMiaWallace · 01/09/2018 22:17

Ooooo Powerpuff girls lego??!!!
Cool!!

bookmum08 · 01/09/2018 22:19

nocuts most of my memories of working at Woolies over Christmas are of being really really.tired as I often to miss days off and always had to do extra late night working either for late night shopping or re filling the bare shelves. Then there was the being yelled at because we didn't have what they wanted in stock (not my fault. Head office did the ordering) and how I (that's me personally) have "ruined Christmas" . Customers who just said "My kid wants a toy that's advertised on telly. I don't know what it's called, have you got it?" Christmas Eve we had to set up the 'January Sale' before we left - so finishing around 9 or 10 at night. Christmas Day off. Then back at 7 am for Boxing Day opening. And then dealing with a gazillion refunds of 'unwanted presents'.
Oh what memories.
Please everyone - be nice to retail staff/ internet delivery people at Christmas.

bookmum08 · 01/09/2018 22:22

MsMia it's only two sets of Powerpuff Girls Lego. Bit expensive for what they are. But I still wanty !!

louise5754 · 01/09/2018 22:53

The 2 rainbocorns arrived today. They are smaller than I thought. I'm seriously wondering whether I've wasted £50 😞😞

MsMiaWallace · 02/09/2018 09:04

Bookmum Talk of Woolies brings back so many memories!!

bookmum08 · 02/09/2018 09:38

MsMia at the time I didn't enjoy working there but now I do look back at bit more fondly and miss it. I especially miss having staff discount - Ha Ha !

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 02/09/2018 11:30

I had a look at them in Smyths yesterday and they definitely aren't as big as they make out in the pictures on the website. But I've ordered a Kitty one anyway Hmm Yes, it's overpriced tat but the combination of the surprise, cats, unicorns, sequins, pink/rainbow colours, soft toys etc is basically everything my DD loves (unfortunately!) so she'll be thrilled with it.

louise5754 · 02/09/2018 18:11

I ordered the cat and hamster. I've seen photos of kids holding them and they look massive. Very misleading.
