*************************Mumsnet Christmas Appeal 2006***********************************

1000 replies

soapbox · 24/11/2006 19:27

I thought I had better start a new thread in case the old one falls over at 1000 posts.

First of all I would like to say a big thank you to all those who have helped make this a huge success Thanks to all of you, life will be a little bit easier for some of our MNetters this year!

Firstly all of the MNetters - without you this would only have been a pipe dream! Givers and receivers - all take a bow

Then the corporates:
GLTC - for going well beyond the call of duty
Hazell -www.verko.co.uk- for her most generous offer of christmas trees - I hope you join in and make some new friends here
Great expectations - a lovely company with wonderful fairtraded toys and again help beyond what was expected.
LCC - to Jaysmummy for her crafty goodies and warm hearted support
www.thesweetiestop.co.uk - for their generous support

And of course it goes almost without saying, MNHQ!

**

How it works:

You email me:

[email protected]

as a giver or receiver. If a receiver I will ask for a bit more information to find a good match for you. If a giver I will find someone for you to send your gift to.

All matches to be done by 30 November (did I really promise that)

All gifts to be posted by 15 December (at the latest).

OP posts:
saltire · 24/11/2006 20:09

I'm not sure if she is doing it by either RL or MN name actually, as i have received my match and my MN name begins with S, and RL name with P.

saltire · 24/11/2006 20:09

In fact, just ignore what i have written as it could be by RL first name, in which case, mine begins with F, so that could explain it. Excuse me , i've had vodka

FrivolentDemon · 24/11/2006 20:10

I think I'm just fascinated by the inner workings of it all more than anything!!!

saltire · 24/11/2006 20:11

I think it's great, if only there were more people like soapy in the world.

leggylil · 24/11/2006 20:14

Have had my match come thru

Cannot wait to get them sent....I have little floaty butterflies in my tummy

I am just glad I can help put a smile on someone face as well as my DD's

MarsLady · 24/11/2006 20:14

I (completely sure of my own wisdom and wonderfulness and appropriate choosingness of presents) have wrapped my gifts. I want them all to be surprised lol!

I have had so much fun. I adore shopping and disrespecting my overdraft!

soapbox · 24/11/2006 20:17

I'd love it if it was all that sophisticated

There are two folders that I am working through - depending on how explicit the first email was about what you had

The alpha thing is done by what ever the computer picks up as the first letter of your email addy (but that can be the tag that goes with it rather than the addy itself) IYSWIM

I have a long long way to go - so you are going to have to be patient with me. But tbh this is the fun bit - shuffling my lists backwards and forwards trying to work out which child would best suit that particular gift. And I'm not going to rush it - sticks tongue out

OP posts:
soapbox · 24/11/2006 20:18

Saltire - how much Vodka - to forget the first letter of your name, and its only 8pm!!!!

MrsMuddle · 24/11/2006 20:28

Autumnlover, I wrapped the pressies for the recipient, and tagged them "To xxxx, from Santa" and I enclosed a note in an envelope to the mum, then wrapped the whole lot up and sent it to the mum.

Nemoinapeartree · 24/11/2006 20:30

soapbox just replied to the email you sent but will prob be lost in your inbox so in reply the answer is yes its fine to pass on my email.

munz · 24/11/2006 20:31

I was going to put some paper in with a nice xmas card so mum/dad could see what was there iycwim. althou that said mum might have other job's to do as well as wrapping - ooh waht to do? - perhaps an email to the reciever to ask how they'd like the packet? guess it depends on if the LO's would be hovering/know the gifts were for them iycwim.

MarsLady · 24/11/2006 20:44

Well the other thread is now full full full! lol

munz · 24/11/2006 20:44

munz · 24/11/2006 20:45

Nemoinapeartree · 24/11/2006 20:46

that was a bit weird like counting down to new year..lol

Aero · 24/11/2006 20:55

I've arrived at this rather late, but what a lovely thread. Am looking forward to receiving my match and helping in a small way to make someone's Christmas a bit special.

rickshaw · 24/11/2006 20:57

Soapbox, hello, I've just sent you an e-mail offering something, could you possibly post if you don't receive it? (I've told you my posting name in my e-mail).

KBear · 24/11/2006 21:01

soapy - you're a legend in your own bathtime!

Hats off too and my offer of help still stands, even with emails and stuff or posting or whatever. I'm only 20 mins away.

xmasmummy · 24/11/2006 21:02

soapy im afraid i dont have anything to doante really but i could make a few nice xmas cards to go in with some of the parcels if you want

Bozza · 24/11/2006 21:07

I am curious as to how many givers and how many recipients there are. I am guessing that there are more givers, but since the things I have to give are quite small, maybe a recipient could receive that and something else. Also of course the receivers may well have several children so need different things.
