I love the sleighs. That's my problem about what to make for the girls this year sorted.

Cheapest place I have seen for candy canes so far is home bargains, think they were 79p for a dozen.

Lilicat1013 · 09/11/2014 19:24

I love the candy cane sledges, they are so pretty.

The cat Christmas stockings are great too, I have got a selection of treats for my cat, he smelt the cat nip on one of them and has been trying to hunt it down.

sweetsomethings · 09/11/2014 19:26

those sledges are great, im going to give them a go too. Thanks for posting i would never of thought of that.

Grumpyoldblonde · 09/11/2014 19:28

I don't know how to do photos - such a luddite, how do I do it?
I know I have gone totally overboard on the stocking. I love those sweetie sledges, so pretty and special looking. I am so glad the thread has become friendly.

laura I am delighted you are still here, not so bad after all are we? (a little um, robust sometimes?) and that your son is back to health, hope he stays well and you stay with us as well as your NM buddies.

supermariossister · 09/11/2014 19:31

small child is obsessed with turtles, the minions were hard to get right! can't take credit for the sledges I got the idea from pinterest

lauraR1989 · 09/11/2014 19:31

Robust is putting it lightly grumpy Grin

90% of you are blooming lovely but then you have the whiny buggers who need a Christmas tree shoved up their what'sit! X

SeeChooJimmy · 09/11/2014 19:32

Loving the candy cane sledges, will possibly give them a try,

ah minty is back spreding their christmas cheer I see, you moan you don't like the thread yet you seem to keep coming back... strange!

Grumpyoldblonde · 09/11/2014 19:37

Ah, there are always whiny buggers - they wont be on Santa's list!

nic013 · 09/11/2014 19:40

Love the stockings, Super Mario.

supermariossister · 09/11/2014 20:18

I better be on Santa's list Grin. haven't made any stockings yet this year need to crack on!

SMOGY · 09/11/2014 20:26

Those stockings are brilliant!!!

Love the candy cane sleighs, I may try and adapt them for a prezzie for the teachers and get the kids to make them, we made snowman soup for them last year and put them in mugs with painted hand prints s label. They went down quite well, so I think maybe something along those lines could be a hit this year. I like to try and do something the kids can make instead of buying, more fun for them and I think it's a nice personal touch. Only prob is I am utterly useless at any sorts of crafts so really need so,etching pretty easy!

supermariossister · 09/11/2014 20:28

I never know what to buy teachers and always end up sending in something that I know I'm going to see at the school fair. need to think of something more original!

supermariossister · 09/11/2014 20:39

I like the homemade idea, we live in a small town and I always assume the teachers are going to end up with a rotation of the same things

mum2jakie · 09/11/2014 22:55

Love the stockings and candy cane sledges, supermariossister

The sledges look really effective but (seem) simple enough that I'm tempted to give them a try myself - and I have no creative talents whatsoever.

supermariossister · 10/11/2014 08:04

it is easy :) I'm not much of a fiddly craft person get too frustrated these didn't take longer than an hour or so

ohtheholidays · 10/11/2014 08:25

Loving how organized lots of you are!I was but then Halloween appeared and DH loves going well over the top on that for all 5DC and they're friends so Christmas got a bit side tracked.

I will stick pictures up when we've got everything down from the attic(only place to store it all)and when I've finished getting the last few bits.

Amazed at how creative some of you are,I would love to receive some of the homemade gifts but I seem to be the only one in my huge family that does anything crafty.

For the one's that have finished all your present shopping for your children have you finished present shopping for everyone else you buy for as well?

ApplesinmyPocket · 10/11/2014 09:51

My children are grown-ups now, I miss the days of hunting down the must-have Christmas toy! One year it was Teletubby dolls which went out of stock a couple of months before the day - oh, the joy of stalking various shops until I just happened to be there as a delivery came in! (DD wasn't nearly so excited to get it as I was to find it..) Oh and the year of the impossible-to-get Furby... this was the original Furby of course - we quickly learned to view it with suspicion and hatred, creepy thing with its grating mechanical whirrings and Waylo-Totos and big starey eyes.

Another year it was a big plastic 'Tracy Island' set, out of stock everywhere. I wasn't after one of those but my BF did. I think we finally ended up making one from a Blue Peter (?) blueprint! Yes I think the proverbial 'old washing-up liquid bottle sawn in half' came in there somewhere. I'm sure her boys were totally bemused on Christmas Day by this tatty cardboard thing, shakily assembled by us while a bit tipsy, its lurchy launch-tower leaning slightly to one side, the legend 'Fairy Liquid' half showing through a bit of slapped on paint and the 'palm trees', sawn-off loo-brush tops.

We still have Christmas magic in our house, obviously, but no toys these days and I miss it. So I for one have enjoyed looking at people's gifts for their DC. (I also loved the rainbow slippers someone made! Brilliant idea Nic, could you consider posting a how-to in the Crafting section perhaps?)

Laura, you've had a very fiery baptism to MN but honestly there are lots of nice people on here despite what must be your first impressions. I like the way you've turned aside quite a lot of harshness with (mostly) humour and a smile. Do stay.

lauraR1989 · 10/11/2014 09:55

Thank you Apples!! A lot of the ladies are lovely, so will probably stick around with my sparkle ;-) x

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 10/11/2014 10:02

(DD wasn't nearly so excited to get it as I was to find it..)* Grin

Funny isn't it.

My brother reminds me of some posters on this thread, he is always moaning if he sees a child with an ipad or any technology and he has frequently grunted at me, " I think half the things are for the parents"

As if thats a crime. I enjoy buying for my children. I buy wisely, and carefully and save up. Christmas has become special again liken when I was a child because I have children.
And the only reason he snarls at children with Ipads is because of jealously because he sees his own childhood as deprived and he never got what he wanted. So he projects his own bitterness onto totally innocent children he doesn't know and their families...

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 10/11/2014 10:43

Apples I remember the made search for teletubby toys my DD is 17 I was so glad when that faze ended as her first words where 'uh ho' when she woke up.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 10/11/2014 10:44

mad not made

marne2 · 10/11/2014 11:41

I have just cleared my airing cupboard out and discovered a whole new space to store more presents Grin, I have now moved the lego from my car into the airing cupboard! I just hope no one goes snooping.

RJnomore · 10/11/2014 11:59

I'm currently engaged in a mad search for a my little pony doll my youngest MUST have but I think I will need to end up having sent from America! Some lovely mners are stalking different smyths stores for me on the lookout.

Most people on here are lovely. I think some strong views are a good thing and make the place what it is - god knows I have strong views! - but they can be expressed in a way that doesn't bring other people down.

SeeChooJimmy · 10/11/2014 12:03

What doll is it RJNOMORE?
