I also don't see what's so confusing about "...what have you bought the DCs... pictures" in the Christmas topic. Even if some people are confused by that there's no need to post about it once you've realised what it is. I regularly click on threads, decide I'm not overly interested in it & click on something else. Don't feel the need to click on the drunk threads & announce everyone's really immature & should grow up & that I think it's really sad that they need to drink to have fun... It's just unnecessary rudeness.

I'd post photos of what we've got our DC but we're skint so they're getting one present each that cost less than £15 & one was free because we got them in the 3 for 2 Argos sale with DS1's birthday present. DS2's present is really for DS1 but he gets all of DS1's old toys eventually anyway & he's only 1 so will probably just run around the room throwing wrapping paper in the air! If we're feeling really extravagant & I can convince DH to dip into our emergency savings We might get them bunk beds. I've seen some for less than £100 & we already have one mattress. DS2 is still in with us atm because the cot won't fit anywhere else!

Thanks RJ DS will only be 4 in January so might hold off a while on the disney infinity

I am unfortunately very very aware through my professional life that not everyone parents like me (not that I am by any means perfect). I do however prefer not to use a deficit model when dealing with people I know nothing about.

Not only do I now live in a bubble, I am very actively engaged in trying to improve life choices and chances for children through both my paid and voluntary work. There are plenty of children I know I feel sorry for, but certainly not the ones whose parents are on this thread.

I'm interested in what you mean with regard to my defectiveness thought please? If you mean my defensiveness, yes I am being defensive, not of myself as I have not poste anything regarding my own situation or any photos on here, but of other who do not deserve you looking down your nose at them.

And yes it was sneery, disguised in an attempt to show pity, it was "oh the poor little rich kids, their parents don't love them enough to play with them" wrapped in Santa paper and decorated with tinsel.

Why would you feel the need to be sad for children you do not know, except in an attempt to make yourself feel superior. Stop being disingenuous, it doesn't sit well on you.

Anyway in other news i appear to have eaten the chocolate orange and the sweets i bought for xmas. I think i will need to brave the shops on xmas eve to replace or i may cave in again.

HalfSpamHalfBrisket · 09/11/2014 11:50

What an interesting thread. It made me ponder.

To declare my hand - I'm in my 40s, with adult step children, and I normally dip in to and enjoy threads like 'poncetastic Christmas'. I don't begin preparing for Christmas until Advent, but understand why people need/choose to begin earlier.

Is the meme of photos of 'stashes' and 'hauls' something that has come from Facebook/other social media?
Why do people do it?
Is it to show they have the money to buy lots of goods?
Does money spent/quantity shown = depth of love for the recipient?
Is it just because it is what everyone else does?
What response does a poster expect back?

Perhaps for Laura, she has no control that her son is ill, but she can take some control by buying lots and physically showing her care and love.

I'm very much 'everyone do what they want' and celebrate how they want in their own homes, but the social media aspect means that other people's choices are very much "in your face".

SeeChooJimmy · 09/11/2014 11:51

I do the same every year sweetsomethings, I always regret buying the sweets in early but I still do it. My favourite it eating candy canes as I decorate the tree... roll on the 1st Blush

HalfSpamHalfBrisket, not sure if your post imply's that I am buying how love by buying gifts???? Apologetics if I have taken it wrong.

I show him and my eldest I love and care for them buy cuddling them, kissing them, playing games with them, spending quality time with them.

I buy 'lots' A) because lots gets split between my house and their dad's B) they don't receive from many other people C) DS2 is in and out of hospital which you know so I like to treat both him and my eldest that little bit more.

we do it not to show we have money, I'm still saving for a car!. It also is absolutely not to show our love, anyone can give a gift and not love someone. We also dont expect any response back, we are just sharing.....just like the lists thread.

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 09/11/2014 12:17

halfspam an interesting thread whereas you failed to notice the poster who posted pictures of her handmade gifts or the hiw people have said such purchases have cost little due to bargain threads, or the advice given to others on their purchases.

So your allowed and its acceptable to buy your children stuff throughout the year 'nobody questions buying of love and affection or time you spend with children' but if you do it one day of the year all hell breaks loose

IgnoreMeEveryOtherFuckerDoes · 09/11/2014 12:21

sweet I ate whole chocolate orange last night Blush the only thing I haven't wrapped is little sweet hampers I'm doing, bad move

wigglesrock · 09/11/2014 12:21

Thanks for your good wishes. Just to say we love the hudl. My 9 year old uses it a lot, watches TV, I player, uses Internet, Netflix, plays Minecraft, makes videos, films etc.

SkullytonFlowers · 09/11/2014 12:24

i think the only year i can say everyone went really overboard was Ds's first christmas. He was the first child, grandchild and great grandchild, so everyone went nuts.

it took us nearly 2hrs to open all the presents, then when we got to my mums house there was even more.

in hindsight, i think we could have spread out the opening over a week and still have been overwhelmed, lol.

RJnomore · 09/11/2014 12:29

The Christmas chocolates are safe here dd2 has her own weight in Halloween sweets and dd1 had 9 friends round last night who all left sweets. Even the Millie's cookies I bought are pretty untouched.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 09/11/2014 12:33

Your current haul would however also be considered to be going over board.

Wow, two hours to open presents and more at grandmas.

Mine got virtually nothing the first year and she was also the first grandchild etc. She also got very little the second and third...and fourth.

I can see after your first, gorge shall we say you would want to cut back now and indeed even think you are. Its all perspectives. I certainly do not have £100 spare for a bike, nor £250 for DH. DH and I do not buy for each other and we buy tiny token gifts for other family members.

sweetsomethings · 09/11/2014 13:07

Wow Skully no need for that, this thread was going in a different direction.

SkullytonFlowers · 09/11/2014 13:10

really? so its ok for her to make little comments at me, but i cant say anything back because it might offend your poor little sensibilities.

instead of telling me off for retaliating, why don't you tell her to wind her neck in?

sweetsomethings · 09/11/2014 13:17

Ok sully it was just the end bit that i thought was off.

lauraR1989 · 09/11/2014 13:19
