My favourite is Santa Claus the movie. We watched it in the cinema when I was a little girl, it was my first cinema trip and we ate ice cream in little tubs.

Every year I watch it and enjoy it just as much as I did that first time.

Elf is a close second, then Christmas with the Kranks.

What's your favourite xmas film and why?

Prep and landing is also on this year quite early (like 6.00 am) its really sweet, a short film with similar scenes to arthur christmas. Probably not christmas movie of the year though.

OLittleTownOfBarflehem · 08/12/2013 22:16

Eh? What could be deleted on a xmas movie thread? Xmas Confused

TwoShakesOfaWhiskersTail · 08/12/2013 22:26

Rise of the Guardians anyone?
It's got them all
Father Christmas, tooth fairy, Easter bunny, Jack Frost.

DontSweatTheSmallStuff · 08/12/2013 22:26

We have to watch National Lampoons christmas vacation and Muppets Christmas Carol every year.

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 08/12/2013 22:28

Another vote for Arthur Christmas here! Not a great fan of Christmas movies in general, but loved it when I saw it last year.

magentastardust · 08/12/2013 22:33

Ooh I love a xmas film even the awful made for tv American ones that channel 5 shows in the afternoons in December.

My favourite has to be Santa Claus the Movie-just love it -reminds me of watching it as a child and it all being so magical. Peuce Juice!
A few years ago I tried to get my dc's to watch it but they didn't really get into it -think I might try them again this year now that they are a bit older although I guess the effects probably aren't up to that much. Ooh it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

The Dc's like The santa Clause films with Tim Allen-can't believe they haven't featured! Also the muppet xmas Carol and we all enjoy Home Alone. We also really enjoyed Nativity 1 and 2!
Also like Love actually and The holidays for a festive snuggle on the sofa with a Baileys with DH!

HoHoHopasholic · 08/12/2013 22:43

ELF! Xmas Smile

Tis the best and one of the few films I've actually belly laughed at. Cracks me up every time when he encounters the escalator Xmas Grin

I'll actually watch any old shit Christmas film though, the more cheese the better. Love 'love actually' too and The Holiday.

LondonMother · 08/12/2013 22:45

It's A Wonderful Life - by a country mile! James Stewart is absolutely not a card-carrying creepy weirdo .

Love Actually is runner up.

Scrooge with Alistair Sim is vg as long as it's not the weird 'colorised' version.

GW297 · 08/12/2013 22:49

Elf and Nativity

hestergraysgarden · 08/12/2013 23:00

LondonMother we bought it for my Dad last Christmas. He watched the film in black and white first, then watched the colourised version afterwards without so much as a mulled wine break.

He is single and also watches Downton.

BerylStreep · 08/12/2013 23:05

I watched Arthur Christmas today and it was very good. One of the best Christmas movies I have watched in a long time - lots of v funny detail for the grown ups.

ChattyKa · 08/12/2013 23:07

Christmas Carol with Alistair Sim

aquashiv · 08/12/2013 23:11

Bad santa - himself and I love it.
With the children anything American and smoooshy.

OctaviusAce · 08/12/2013 23:14

It's a Wonderful Life for me, hands down!

ladydepp · 08/12/2013 23:18

The Grinch !!

Thanks for reminding me, must go dig it out. That little dog with the antler tied to his head, I love it!

redshoes · 08/12/2013 23:22

Elf here by a long way...

FluffyJumper · 08/12/2013 23:28

Meet Me in St Louis.

LeepyTime · 08/12/2013 23:33

National Lampoon by far!! I have managed to source on Amazon the Reindeer shaped egg nog glasses that they use!! :-)

Great scene -
The Dad is proudly holding up his new Christmas tree outside the house watched by his ghastly sneering neighbours - man and woman:
Horrible neighbour (man): "So where exactly do you think you are going to put that?"
Dad: "Bend over and I'll show you"
Man "How dare you speak to me like that!"
Dad: "I wasn't talking to you ..."

merrymouse · 09/12/2013 06:11
