My favourite is Santa Claus the movie. We watched it in the cinema when I was a little girl, it was my first cinema trip and we ate ice cream in little tubs.

Every year I watch it and enjoy it just as much as I did that first time.

Elf is a close second, then Christmas with the Kranks.

What's your favourite xmas film and why?

Onestep, if you had to save one from a burning building (just go with it) which would you pick?

Love Actually. Definite favourite in our household.

We have just watched Arthur Christmas and thought that was very good too.

Santa Claus the Movie is my favourite film. Ever.

Can we count Gremlins as a Christmas film? If so that probably gets my vote, or possibly Scrooged (Bill Murray, and I love the sugary-sweet fairy who packs a real punch).

Gremlins is absolutely a Xmas movie!

I can tell you the worst!! Santa's Dog - terrible acting, awful plot and cringeworthy - even my kids who will watch anything hated it!!

I love Polar Express personally!

Slightly off topic, but years ago (mid nineties) there was an English movie that was aired around Christmas. I loved it, but can not remember what it is called. It's about this alcoholic Mum and her children and her fight against alcoholism. It ends with a happy scene of a cottage with a gorgeous garden full of flowers in the summer. Can not remember much more. If you can help me find it I will love you forever

I'm about to put the Christmas movies on my telly after reading this thread. Am just in the mood. My daughter (who is now 12 and will deny this) loves Polar Express and the Grinch. I'm a fan of It's a Wonderful Life, but dd won't watch it 'cos it's boring and it's about angels, which is rubbish' (she's an atheist). I have a huge soft spot for Jimmy Stewart, so no contest.

There was a dramatization of a book on last Christmas (or was it the Christmas before) called Lost Christmas, which featured Eddie Izzard. That's also a favourite for us, though it's a bit more cynical in parts than the average Christmas fayre but is equally life affirming and totally immersive.

DS and I are planning which films to watch next weekend now. I do like the slightly cynical films, that's one of the things I like about Love Actually, because not everyone gets the happy ever after.

I love the muppet Christmas carol too. Watched it with DS2 on Friday while he was off school (due to flooding).

I love mickey's Christmas carol too.

Santa buddies is not actually the worst of the buddies films. DS2 has made me watch them all. Treasure buddies more than once.
