We have just opened ours! As usual, ds and I are having our annual advent calendar competition. Same rules as usual - we have guessed beforehand what picture wewill get in each window. 1 point for something which we have guessed for another date. 2 points for the correct thing on the correct date.

So far ds has got off to a flying start as he guessed snowman and got..... a snowman! So it's two points to him. I guessed Christmas pudding and got......mince pies! No points to me I'm afraid, as I hadn't guessed mince pies.

Ds also has a Christmas in the Forest Playmobil calendar. He had a tree in that. Smile

And yes, we've got another bloody shepherd, so now in our 3D nativity scene we have four shepherds and two donkeys. DS1 who has ASD has lined all the shepherds up so they look like they're facing a firing squad and DS2 has put the donkeys in the stable because it's cold and apparently they're staying there even when Mary, Joseph and Jesus arrive, because according to him the hotel isn't full Xmas Grin

SnowMuchToBits · 06/12/2010 09:09

Pmsl at your shepherds, Sonea! Xmas Grin

No news on ours until this evening today. Ds has been away overnight on a school trip to London, and won't be back until this evening, so I'll wait and open mine with him.

Today we got...

A king!! He appears to be empty handed though which worries me a bit.

SnowMuchToBits · 07/12/2010 11:33

Makes a change from shepherds though....

Incidentally, did the shepherds come complete with sheep/lambs?

SnowMuchToBits · 07/12/2010 20:41

We have opened ours now... I had a snowman (1 point) and ds had a fairy (0 points). He is still 4 points ahead of me though...

In the Playmobil calendar we had a medium sized deer.

Today, quite a surprise with...........a festive cow!

SnowMuchToBits · 07/12/2010 21:28

In what way was it festive? Decorated with tinsel? Wearing a Santa hat? Xmas Wink

SnowMuchToBits · 08/12/2010 08:23

This morning we had a top (me - 0 points) and some bells (ds - 1 point).

In the Playmo calendar we had a green plant, 2 cabbages, a bunch of carrots and a single root vegetable (swede possibly?) which came in 2 parts, the root and the leaves. Had to pmsl at ds trying to put them together the wrong way round..... Xmas Grin

GooseyLoosey · 08/12/2010 08:34

Mine have riddles in each day for the dcs to find where Santa has hidden the chocolate. Eg one of today's is

"To find treat number nine
Look under the table where you dine"

I'm struggling to think up another 30 rhyming couplets though.

SnowMuchToBits · 08/12/2010 09:16

GooseyLoosey, perhaps we had better try and think of some then....

If you're looking for number ten,
Try where you might keep your pen (pencil case)

Number eleven should be in
The cupboard by the biscuit tin

You will find that number twelve's
Where the books live on the shelves

etc, etc....

Missed the last couple of days as have hurt my hip and can't sit easily to access my laptop.

So last couple of days were one large stag and a small deer. Today stag has taken over and the other two deer are lying down. Stag has taken over the hay rack.

Today we got a plant to stick in the turd, a bunch of carrots and two cabbages. No root vegetable in ours.Xmas Envy

SnowMuchToBits · 08/12/2010 14:20

Mollie I'm Xmas Shock that you had no root vegetable! Ours fits nicely in the large hole in the large piece of hay. I have stuck my green plant in the large piece of hay instead of the turd small one too. Don't know if that's correct or not Xmas Blush

OP posts:
MollieO · 08/12/2010 15:31

Found the root vegetable - in the plastic bag it came in - in the bin! Ds had opened the calendar but not the bag. I'd stuck the top of the root veg into the plant and put the orange base in the bin. Hadn't noticed it. I'm on very strong painkillers and they have obviously dulled my eyesight and brain Xmas Blush

The picture on the box doesn't seem to bear any relation to the box contents this year. The leaflet gives good idea of where to put the pieces. No doubt ds will correctly position it when he comes home.

SnowMuchToBits · 08/12/2010 15:45

Phew! Thank goodness for that. Sorry to hear you're in so much pain though - how did you hurt your hip?

MollieO · 08/12/2010 15:58

Trying to put ds back under his covers Sunday evening - he had gone to sleep wearing pjs over his ski thermals (we have heating so no idea why he wanted to do that). Bent over and then couldn't move.

Went to work on Monday in a lot of pain. By Monday evening couldn't move at all. Spent yesterday morning at A&E (over 4 hours and they weren't busy) to be told that I had damaged all the ligaments in my hip/pelvis and was given very strong painkillers and ordered complete rest for 7 days. Was also offered crutches! Walking hurts but the worst is moving from sitting to standing and vv. Ds has had to help me get dressed!

Am supposed to be skiing in 3 weeks, think I may be ordering a Kindle and doing loads of reading instead. Xmas Sad

We have little rhymes behind each door. Today's was:

Video Games are Tons of Fun
Yvonne Elf programs every one.

My fave so far has been Each Elf has a Special Skill
Some paint, some knit, some use a drill.

They are Hallmark. American.

SnowMuchToBits · 08/12/2010 16:32

Oh no Mollie! I didn't realise bending over could be so dangerous Xmas Shock. Hope you are better soon.

Stranded, your rhymes sound brilliant!

OP posts:
Sonea · 09/12/2010 07:59

Some of you are really clever. Mollie I hope your back gets better soon.

Well yesterday after the excitement of opening a camel, my DC's actually fought with each other to open this morning's window and they got a sheep. To go with the many shepherds I presume. DC2 told me he'd cheated and looked behind some of the windows to see when we were going to get some good people, I had to fess up and say I'd done the same thing too.

SnowMuchToBits · 09/12/2010 11:52

Today I had a stocking (1 point) and ds had a robin (1 point). Wish I'd had the robin, as I had guessed robin for today! Xmas Envy

In the Playmobil one we had an evergreen tree. I have installed it in the hole previously occupied by the root vegetable. The root vegetable is now in the manger, being nibbled by some deer.

OP posts:
MollieO · 09/12/2010 12:55

SnowMuch same here! Ds not happy that there is no obvious place to now put the root veg or the cabbages - ds doesn't think the hay rack is the right place as that is only for hay. Xmas Confused

He went off to school in a huff and said he'll have to sort it out later. Xmas Grin

SnowMuchToBits · 09/12/2010 12:57

Yes, our cabbages are also loitering somewhat.....

How's your hip today?

OP posts:
MollieO · 09/12/2010 13:18

Still not much movement and a lot of pain. Feel as if it won't be long before I end up in the geriatric ward!

I didn't know deer ate cabbages!

SnowMuchToBits · 09/12/2010 13:23

Sorry to hear it Mollie.

I don't know what deer eat, but maybe the cabbages are for some other animal which turns up later in the calendar....

OP posts:
SnowMuchToBits · 10/12/2010 08:23

This morning I had holly and ds had crackers (1 point each).

In the Playmo calendar we had a baby raccoon, a pile of what might be tomeatoes, and a pile of something else, which vaguely resemble large red lentils.
