Have given DS Calpol & DH is angry - advice please

DS hurt his foot a couple of days ago (nasty bruise, no bones broken thank goodness), I gave him 2 teaspoons of 6+ Calpol. DH is now really angry & says I've behaved in a detrimental way regarding DSs health because of the links to asthma.

I believe that if a child is in pain, they should have pain relief. Does anyone know about the effects of Calpol, any medical experts out there?

I feel DH had gone over the top regarding this, he has accused me of undermining him. I asked a nurse at the local hospital, she said it was fine, DH (dentist) says she doesn't know what she is talking about as he reads 'highly regarded medical publications' & is therefore more in the know.

OP posts:

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. I hope I'm wrong. I haven't signed any forms. DH was telling me it would be good for DS to have an Oz passport. Have just looked for DSs passport, it's not here (I ALWAYS keep the passports together in a box). I'm sure he can't do it without my consent though.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:27

My minds gone a bit Blaa.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 22:29

You need to go and see a solicitor SilverBoots. If they apply for a prohibition order then this will prevent your son being removed from the UK without your permission.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:31

DHs brother is (another) medical professional. DH is always signing on his 'behalf' if he is away. So signing a photo for a passport (for example) wouldn't be a problem.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 22:33

That's illegal!

Pop and see a solicitor.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:33

Sorry, didn't make much sense. DH can forge signatures. He knows mine.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 22:35

No, that made perfect sense. You need to go through the right channels, a family solicitor, if it's a joint bank account that you have then take some money out of it incase he blocks you from accessing it.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:45

Don't have a joint bank account. All DHs accounts & businesses are 'offshore'. Which leaves me with nothing.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:47

All property is 'offshore' also. What a mess.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 22:47

So who buys the groceries/pays the bills etc? Do you not need money for clothes/tampons etc?

I'm starting to really dislike your husband.

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 22:57

Money regarding bills etc is ok, DH transfers money. That's no problem.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 22:59

You need to seek proper advice on this, please do give Womens Aid a call, then see a solicitor about a prohibition order. I know it's scary, you need to do this though.

AnyFucker · 10/05/2010 23:00

will you have a problem when he stops "transferring money"

because I think he will if he gets wind of your dissension

you really need to speak to an expert, or face getting royally shafted by such an article as your husband appears to be

marriednotdead · 10/05/2010 23:00

Wow! Am speechless. Change the locks quick

AnyFucker · 10/05/2010 23:00

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 23:11

I will have MAJOR problems when he stops transfering money. That's what is keeping me here. As much as I want to pack his bags, I can't.

belledechocolatefluffybunny · 10/05/2010 23:12

This is why you need to see a solicitor.

AnyFucker · 10/05/2010 23:16

please seek legal advice tomorrow

SilverBoots · 10/05/2010 23:22

First thing tomorrow I will report DSs passport as lost.

I'll try & get some sleep now. thanks for the advice.

IMoveTheStars · 10/05/2010 23:28

Sorry, but I thought it was paracetamol that had links to asthma (I understand that asthmatics shouldn't have NSAIDS)

OP - just give him calprofen intead, if he's hurt his foot it'll probably work better anyway as it's an anti-inflammatory.

Also, can't believe this argument hasn't come up already if he's old enough to have 6+ calpol? Did you have it in the house? Did your DS never have calpol/neurofen as a baby for teething etc?

bratnav · 10/05/2010 23:28

SilverBoots - worst case scenario if you deal with this is a few weeks of you and the DSs in temp accommodation whilst you get finances etc organised.

Worst case scenario if you don't - well 'D'H has it would appear applied for a passport for DS3 without your consent/knowledge.

Call Womens Aid as soon as is humanly possible, call a family solicitor first thing tomorrow and get a prohibited steps order.

Sorry, probably a bit harsh but you need to deal with this NOW. You have done so well to get to this point, just keep your momentum going

thumbwitch · 10/05/2010 23:35

silverboots - to apply for an Aussie passport for your son, both parents need to have signed the form with witnessed signatures in two places, iirc. If he has forged your signature that is of course utterly illegal. I think your son also needs to be given citizenship status before he can get an Aussie passport - as he was born in the UK (presumably) then this is not automatic, it also has to be applied for and iirc you have to sign those forms as well.

So - did his whole family come over from Australia? Do they all have dual nationality?

IMoveTheStars · 10/05/2010 23:37

crap. only got halfway through the thread before posting, ignore me.

OP, hope you're OK, speak to every solicitor going - you can get 30mins gratis for advice, if you speak to everyone in your area, then they won't be able to deal with your 'D'H.

He sounds like a right cunt though...

colditz · 10/05/2010 23:37

He's got your son's passport

he's been making noises abou6t going to Australia

You've kicked him out...

PACK UP YOUR KIDS AND GO TO YOUR MOTHER'S OR CONTACT WOMANSAID AND SAY YOU NEED TO BE IN A HOSTEL

It has been made abundantly clear that he is not scared of hurting you to get what he wants.

It's clear he wants to take your child to Australia.

Go.

Hide.

Seek legal advice tomorrow. Right now I would concentrate on keeping your family together.

Thediaryofanobody · 10/05/2010 23:40

Silver I don't know much about it but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that some sort of flag can be put on some children's passports in order to prevent parental abduction a solicitor will know more.

When he's out of the house try find as many personal documents and photocopy. Is he the type to write down passwords etc? If he is copy these.
This part is probably illegal but this is what I'd do open a new account in my name that he knows nothing about (a paperless account if possible so nothing is sent to the house) if you can get into bank account transfer as much as you can and leave very soon afterwards before he was alerted.
If your planning on staying and biding your time can you start saving up what he does give you secretly?

But honestly I would call woman's aid NOW and go ASAP for you and your sons safety.
