What’s this in child’s ear? (Photo)

Hi, noticed this in 6 year old’s ear just now. Is this what wax looks like? To be honest it looks a bit like some popcorn (which we do have in the house) but ds claims no knowledge... Don’t want to embarrass myself at minor injuries if this is what wax looks like!
His other ear isn’t like this.
Thanks!;

Ear wax is usually mid to dark brown.

goodolddaze · 25/01/2019 19:43

Doesn’t look like wax to me

PurpleDaisies · 25/01/2019 19:43

That looks like a foreign body. Probably popcorn.

You wouldn’t embarrass yourself by taking him to have it removed.

Witchend · 25/01/2019 19:44

It looks like when ds' grommet was coming out. I think they've put something in. If you're careful you may be able to remove it with tweezers.

Rosa · 25/01/2019 19:45

It could well be , I would massage a but of olive oil and then see if it comes out, Don't prod it in!! Or use cotton buds or similar.

Thanks all Blush have made too many trips in my time just wanted to check. I did v v gently touch it with a cotton bud and it didn’t move. It’s in quite far I had to stretch it to take that photo

Don’t use cotton buds or tweezers. You could make it worse or damage the ear drum.

FaithInfinity · 25/01/2019 19:52

My guess would be foreign body and I would get it looked at.

Thisisthelaststraw · 25/01/2019 19:54

Does it look lodged or loose?

trulybadlydeeply · 25/01/2019 19:55

Looks very much like an unpopped corn kernel! I had to take DS2 with a pea up his nose once, it was out very quickly and it gave the staff a good laugh, but it was fine and they got it out quickly!

loveskaka · 25/01/2019 19:56

I would take him to minor injuries it could be a wee worm or something.

britespark1 · 25/01/2019 19:58

We had to have a tiny plastic bead removed from my youngest’s ear a few weeks ago after it was spotted during his hearing assessment. Denies any knowledge of how it got there...... definitely let the professionals get it out.

Carbsnomarbs · 25/01/2019 20:00

I was about to say it looks like a bit of popcorn, not a kernel though those are usually a brown colour aren’t they

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/01/2019 20:01

Sweet corn?

Elfinablender · 25/01/2019 20:03

Lego head?

viques · 25/01/2019 20:05

Curious bystander wandering through hoping for a painless sporner development ........

Looks like a plastic bead to me, does anyone in the house have those things you hammer into a pattern?

ScarlettDarling · 25/01/2019 20:08

loveskaka A worm....?Envy

Fairylea · 25/01/2019 20:12

I would go to minor injuries for that. I wouldn’t want it to get pushed in.

2019Dancerz · 25/01/2019 20:14

At minor injuries now. Will update!
