Hi, wanted to start a new thread to be accountable. Plan to start with small changes and progress to calorie counting. Happy for anyone else to join. My first ever thread so hope I do this right.

What brand @KAMi3240? A friend did suggest Fitflop trainers but I didn't like them at all.

KAMi3240 · 26/07/2023 07:24

@Lovehearts82 let me know if you like the tea!

Hi 🙂

Hope everyone is having a good week. Well done on the losses ❤️ Another couple of lbs down here:

starting weight: 19st 1lb
current weight: 18st
goal weight: 15st 7lb

Was reading the Michael Mosley webchat on here and all the recommendations for the 16:8 fasting window (so doing all your eating in just 8 hours of the day) and I’m considering trying. Would involve not eating until midday as don’t tend to have our evening meal until 7:30-8pm (takes an age to get our children to sleep..) and wonder if it might help on top of calorie counting. Has anyone here tried it?

BeastOfBODMAS · 26/07/2023 10:11

Hi @NeonHalo I have not tried 16:8 yet but I plan to add it in later down the line as I get closer to my goal, rather than keep cutting calories down. So, if loss stalls at say 1500 cal I will try IF (and if that fails I might have to contemplate some exercise!)

NeonHalo · 26/07/2023 10:20

@BeastOfBODMAS that sounds like a good plan! I’m losing very slowly (1lb a week) at 1650-1700 calories a day but if that stalls I might try the same thing. I could lose weight quicker if I went lower but honestly it just wouldn’t be sustainable for me. Hope all going well for you 🙂

Sunflower07 · 26/07/2023 13:17

Hello, please can I join?
I have joined so many of these threads over the years and i never stick at it but I'm determined to this time.

My plan is going to be calorie counting and tracking using MFP. I also try to plan and prep a day ahead so I'm not grabbing the wrong things when hungry.

I am 5ft 6 and weigh 15stone. I'd like to get down to 11 stone.

I'd also like to improve my fitness so will be upping my time on the Crosstrainer.

BeastOfBODMAS · 26/07/2023 14:28

@NeonHalo 1lb a week is great progress, it soon adds up!

I am finding it a slog at the moment as we’re hopefully moving soon-ish, so I am trying to reduce the amount of long life stuff in the cupboards and save money. Lentils 50 ways and lots of overnight oats with dried fruits. No fancy Bol pots!

hi and welcome @Sunflower07

Soozikinzii · 26/07/2023 15:06

I've found the noom free 14 day trial useful . really easy to track foods on there .

Lovehearts82 · 27/07/2023 10:44

Week 3 update
Starting weight 15st 11lbs
Last week 15st.9lbs
Current weight 15st 9lbs
Goal weight 13st

Well I haven't lost this week but I haven't gained either so I'm happy. Trying to do a 16/8 fast too, as eating late evening snacks is my downfall, need to break the habit. Been a bit lax this week with mfp and logging calories, so I need to be more strict doing it.
Hope everyone is well.

mondaytosunday · 27/07/2023 11:48

Thanks for the link @KAMi3240 but sadly I'm a size 9!
So lost a kilo (2.2lbs) since last Thursday but annoyingly hardly anything these last three days when I have been under goal calories and also did 16:8 unintentionally for two days! I'm hoping that there may be a bit of a whoosh soon.
It's my son's birthday this weekend, so BBQ (weather permitting) Friday night, out to dinner Saturday night and my daughter is making the most yummy carrot cake for him. Plus I will be toasting the boy, so going to be impossible to keep within goal so just hope I maintain.
I'm finding the fasting easier now, not so hungry in the morning and can push it to 16 hours, but I really need to watch my blood sugars if I do that (type 1 diabetic). I do feel more energetic in the evenings - I felt like bouncing around last night at 11pm! Would normally have taken the dogs out but it was pouring down. Do not feel energetic in the morning.

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:07

Hi, I had somehow started this thread on a different account! Anyway here is my update.
Today 15st 13.3 so 2.8lb lost. 4.8lb altogether.
55.3 % body fat so 1.4% down

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:10

@NeonHalo I find I often IF naturally if I just listen to my body. If I try to do it on purpose I feel deprived and eat more! Last week I probably did IF 5 days naturally because I just waited until I was actually hungry to eat. I think the advice is to avoid if you have previous ED but otherwise an extra few hours before eating won't do you any harm as long as you eat what you normally would in the eating window and don't "make up" for the missed meal!

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:11

welcome @Sunflower07

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:12

@Lovehearts82 I wasn't great at tracking last week either, I changed my birth control and ate like a bear for a couple of days!

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:14

@mondaytosunday what a busy weekend, some weeks you need to choose fun and just remember to get back on track the next day - not 6 months later as I tend to do! I hope you had a lovely time, carrot cake is my favourite!
Sorry the shoes are no good!
Oh to feel energetic would be amazing! I can't remember that feeling 😂

GingerLiberalFeminist · 01/08/2023 17:47

I can be hit and miss with tracking, I tend to say all meat portions are the standard 4oz on MFP when they are usually more :/

eleanorwish · 02/08/2023 07:59

Hello, I'd like to join please. Like a previous poster I've joined a lot of these threads but never kept it up.
I weigh 16st 4 which is the heaviest I've ever been. At 5 ft 3 that's a lot of excess weight.
I'm 55 and I'm starting to get more aches and pains in my joints so I need to do something.
My plan is to track using myfitnesspal, limit my calories to 1500 and to build my steps up to 10000 a day.

BeastOfBODMAS · 02/08/2023 08:13

Welcome @eleanorwish

I am 17lb down now to 14st2 which I’m really happy with. Will be losing new weight from the original 10 stone rather than the same weight over again.

I’ve increased my calories on MFP to 1600 to make it more sustainable, but eating 1430-ish on a normal day with the occasional meal out using the extra ‘banked’. I think this is probably how people who don’t have a weight problem manage occasional treats.

@mondaytosunday my toddler DD loves making carrot cake and will ‘steal’ handfuls of grated raw carrot to eat whilst I feign annoyance Wink hope you had a great weekend

Kami333 · 01/08/2023 13:12

@Lovehearts82 I wasn't great at tracking last week either, I changed my birth control and ate like a bear for a couple of days!

Eating like a bear I know how that feels 😅 and now I've gone and caught Covid again 3rd time now 😫 Headache and sore throat, coughing. But I'm hungry like a bear lol Not looking forward to weighing tomorrow.

KAMi3240 · 02/08/2023 21:38

Hi @eleanorwish welcome. I started at the same weight and I'm only 5'1 so understand the struggle! Welcome

@BeastOfBODMAS you're doing amazing! Love the stealing carrots 🥕😋

KAMi3240 · 02/08/2023 21:41

@Lovehearts82 when I'm I'll I also have no desire to cook a proper meal so no chance I'm losing weight when I'm sick. I hope you feel better soon. I avoided it until march this year, got COVID as my 40th birthday gift and think I'm still suffering slightly. Took me three months to have a normal feeling day!

My weekend away was ok diet wise (except that carrot cake)! Even with getting KFC (birthday boys choice) I got the rice/salad bowl and it helpfully includes the calories. But I drank a bottle of wine over the weekend then when we got back home we got Domino's with cookies (why is it cheaper to get a pizza/sides/dessert deal than just a pizza? Swear I was forced to have it)! So no weight loss and scale showed a bump. Finally got it down now, so overall loss is 10lbs in 28 days, which is the rate I have lost in the past but wanted to do better.
One reason is my flight this Christmas - with Tesco points saved over the last few years I've bumped us up to Premium economy, but they have new planes and the seats have shrunk from a comfortable 21in to only 18.5! Economy is 18. I know the weight I need to be to sit comfortably in an airline seat so the pressure is on.

PineappleMint · 03/08/2023 09:49

Hi - can I join in if that’s ok? I’ve just weighed in at my heaviest ever, 16st 11 pounds, and my eating is out of control. Just constantly craving sugar for energy and emotional support. I’ve got to get to grips with it, two of my three kids are also gaining more weight than is healthy and I’m the worst role model for them, it’s hard to preach healthy eating while you’re sneaking spoonfuls of Nutella from the jar! I feel like I’ve tried loads of things in the past that might have helped me lose a couple of stone but then I slip back into old ways and gain it all back. So I’m thinking of trying Paul McKenna’s emotional eating book and dvd to see if that helps, I’m definitely an emotional eater - my meals are actually ok I think, it’s what I reach for with snacks when I’m not actually hungry, more stressed / anxious / bored / tired / overwhelmed. I’ve ordered the book and in the meantime I’m back to trying to stick to just meals and healthier snacks to at least stop the gaining!
