Hi, wanted to start a new thread to be accountable. Plan to start with small changes and progress to calorie counting. Happy for anyone else to join. My first ever thread so hope I do this right.

Can I join please, I really need some accountability.
At my heaviest I was 17st 3lbs (Jan 2021) casually using MFP to log calories and trying not to snack and binge late at night I dropped 2st 4lbs down to 14st 13lbs (March 2022) But I've totally slipped and slowly yo yo'd up and down between that and my current 15st 9lbs. My first goal weight is 13st, this would still put me as overweight but I feel Its achievable if I stick to it. And would motivate me further.
Snacking is my downfall. So I'm going to get back to drinking solely water and the odd coffee (I'm not a hot drink person) and properly logging my food into MFP I've set it to around 1500 calories which has been achievable for me to still feel full. I also need to get my kettlebell back out, which is gathering dust, lol . The first week or 2 is always so tough to kick start it. I'll weigh after the school run and update weekly on a Thursday xx. Seeing this post this morning has given me a little kick to start again and be serious this time.

Welcome, the more the merrier. Sometimes you just need that one thing to kick you off, how are you getting on?

Hi everyone,
Im still on holiday so just checking in but well done on the weight losses already. @Waifeandstray I hope u managed to get back on track it’s so easy to let things slip for us when life is tricky. You can do this, I loved your attitude of addressing it and starting again.

Im still on holiday for another 11 days and I look horrific. It’s the heaviest I’ve ever been and outfits I liked at home I don’t like here, I blame the mirror 😂 I’ve had a long chat with dh and going to get started on return. Going to make some plans so that I order the right foods and know what i’m eating for the first week when we get back. The minute I don’t have a plan it all falls apart. I also struggle with when I make a mistake starting fresh the next day instead of dragging it out for several days which I hope this group will help for. Good luck everyone x

Those holiday mirrors! I can drag a bad day out for years, you are not alone!

A kg is 2.2 pounds.
So lost a couple the first week but then went away for four days, eating out every meal. The first day I stayed on track but three days I'm sure were over and confess I did that 'I've blown it now so might as well indulge'. But back on it today. I will weigh myself tomorrow and hope I haven't regained that 2kg (4.5lbs).
One thing I've realised over the past year is how much I'm avoiding social things. If I have not seen someone for a while I don't want to see them now. I moved 18 months ago back to London and a few old friends have reached out but I've made excuses not to see them as I'm 60lbs heavier. I feel like my life has been a bit on hold with this recent weight gain (I was 18 stone and size 18, but as I'm tall just looked overweight, not obese). Now I'm a size 22-24 and look horrible.
Though I did meet up with some people from my old neighbourhood (so they've seen me at this weight) and one I hadn't seen for a few months said 'you look like you've lost weight'! No, I've never been heavier, which made me think either she's trying to be misguidedly kind or just has a mental picture of me as a hippo.

I can definitely say no one noticed weight gain as much as you do. If you saw a friend who had put on weight I'm sure you wouldn't think less of them so please don't become isolated because of it as if they are genuine friends they won't care.

Well, the kettlebell is still gathering dust at the moment 😆 but I seriously need to get it out this week. I'm off work this next week, so it is a good week to start.
I'm still trying to cut down snacking and I have done. I know I need to do it slowly to maintain. I'll weigh in tomorrow, hopefully I've lost at least a pound 🤞. But its week one, and any change is a good change even if it doesn't reflect on the scales.

KAMi3240 · 19/07/2023 21:24

Definitely @Lovehearts82 show and stay is what I need. Last two days I've been shattered and grumpy and just focused on tracking even when I'm eating all the wrong things. Even if the savages don't show it you've done something good for your body.

Hey, I would like to join this thread please!

I have a lot of motivation to do this, I am on the right track but its coming off very slowly. I have a tendency to do okay then go out a couple nights a week and completely ruin it. I have a holiday in 6 weeks that is my main motivation at the moment. Funny as when I went on holiday in 2021 I was the heaviest I have ever been (14kg/31lbs heavier and I don't remember it bothering me! I have quite a bit that I would like to lose, 43kg/94lbs which I think is roughly the same as the OP at the start of the thread, so we are on a similar pathway 😊

I use the lose it app and I calorie count to remain in a calorie deficit. I would definitely say my main reasons for not losing is being in the "treat yourself" mindset whenever we go out. It normally spirals and I eat/drink a lot!! Until my holiday I have a few opportunities for that to happen so I am making an effort to be extra mindful that I have a goal in mind. My partner is very on board with it all but he says that I can get snappy if he tries to remind me of my goals if I am going a bit sideways (he is 100% correct which isn't very good). We could both do with drinking a bit less tbh which will definitely help!

I have rambled on quite a bit here I see, I have a tendency to do that 😅

Lovehearts82 · 20/07/2023 07:38

Week 2 update
Starting weight 15st.11lbs
Current weight 15st 9lbs -2lbs
Goal weight 13st

KAMi3240 · 20/07/2023 16:46

@tryingtodobetter1 welcome, great to have people with similar goals I think. I'm going to Disneyland Paris in October and need to have less weight to carry about! I'm using my Fitbit app to track at the minute.

Yes I am thank you, although I couldn't resist the cinnamon buns in Aldi today 😋 but I've logged the calories. This is the time of day that gets me wanting snacks 😩 so I might have to have a cup of tea or something even though I'm not a tea person, I need to start some sort of evening habit to replace the evening snacking. How are you doing op?

LeafMeBee · 21/07/2023 18:49

Hi please can I join you all? I'm the heaviest I've been, around 20stone but I'll weigh in the morning. I have around 6st to lose. (More really to put me i ata healthy bmi but I'll think about that when I get there)

LeafMeBee · 22/07/2023 08:37

I've just weighed in, my first one.
20stone 2lb
😳

Snugglemonkey · 22/07/2023 09:04

I wouldike to join in too please. I am on holiday at the moment, so no scales. I imagine I am around the 16 stone mark. I want to be 11.5.

KAMi3240 · 24/07/2023 09:26

So after a festival weekend I've put 3.5 back on! Still 2lb down so back on it with tracking today.

KAMi3240 · 24/07/2023 09:28

@Lovehearts82 have you tried the Yorkshire bedtime tea? When I'm in a good rhythm in life (rare) I like to have that as my bedtime tea. Then I brush my teeth, I have been known to brush my teeth at 6pm so I don't eat anything else 😅

OP posts:
KAMi3240 · 24/07/2023 09:30

@LeafMeBee welcome, great to have you on board. I'm exactly the same just working towards a healthy BMI. Although I did hear it's healthy to be at the top end of the healthy weight so I'm going for that rather than the lower end. Heard on the stompcast if anyone's interested.

OP posts:
KAMi3240 · 24/07/2023 09:32

Hey @Snugglemonkey great to have you. I'm unfortunately hovering around that mark. Which at my 5'1" height makes me very undertall! I had got down to 15 stone 12 last week but back over it this week with festival fun!

A gorgeous inspirational thread.
I had a baby at Christmas and in March weighed a whackin 244lbs (17.5 st). Today I've hit 217lbs 🎉
Still got 70lbs to go, but I'm chuffed. It's hard though!
I'm using chocolate protein shakes as my pick-me-up, trying to eat lo/no carb and am doing a light exercise class a few times a week plus walking everywhere.

Good luck everyone!

GingerLiberalFeminist · 24/07/2023 09:39

Oh my BMI is still obese but 2 stone loss is good. BMI is at 32.1

I also had a baby at Christmas. I have actually gained more since. I am just starving all the time and craving carbs 😩

mondaytosunday · 24/07/2023 11:05

Thanks @KAMi3240 but I know how judgmental some people are! Not that they'd care for me less but they'd for sure notice and I can't bear the 'she's certainly let herself go' comments I'm sure would follow! I certainly notice when people put on weight - possibly because I'm fairly obsessed but I know I have a couple of competitive undereaters in my extended family.
Anyhoo, weighed in this morning and so far I'm 8.5lbs (3.9kg) down since I started July 5. For those who haven't seen my first post I'm doing a combo of IF 14:10 and calorie counting using My Fitness Pal (ignoring exercise calories). I average about 1600-1650 calories a day, aiming for 40-30-30 carb-fats-protein macros (but it's often 40-40-20, though the fats I eat are good fats from eggs, smoked salmon, avocado etc). I'm tall, type 1 diabetic, 61, sedentary (I do do PT twice a week but walking is way down from my usual 6000-8000 steps as it's become uncomfortable with my most recent gain). Other than walking the dogs I can go days without leaving the house as I wfh.
My motivation, other than health, is a trip to US at Christmas - I was 20kg (44lb) less last time I was there but would like to be 40kg (88lbs) down from where I'm at now. If I keep losing at current rate I could lose another 28kg (61lbs), which is most realistic but still requires long term consistency!

@mondaytosunday I just bought new walking boots for a festival and honestly you would not believe the difference it made. I normally struggle with ankles, knees, hips and back but I was absolutely fine. As soon as I put them on I felt like I'd been straightened out. I plan to wear them in walks from now on. Might be worth investing in some of you struggle like me.

Ooh haven't tried that tea, I'll put it on the shopping list. Oh the brushing the teeth really dies work and I'm like you, have been known to brush teeth early so I don't snack 😆
