Hi, I'm a fatty and can't stand the self conscious feeling anymore. I tried sw but it's not working for me so I've downloaded mfp.

I've got about 3 stone to lose and would love a chunk off by October. Though I know it will take longer to hit target...anyone else just starting? Or just need a bit of company along the way?

I did have an icecream in todays hot weather but offset by me bot having any lunch as it's my turn for a lie in.

Husband is dieting too so we are really helping each other. He has lost 10lb in 2 weeks!

FluffedIt · 19/06/2017 09:49

So it's Monday..who has a weigh in today?!

I've just weighed and lost a lb..but gained more than that so still in negative ATM, not feeling bothered by it though.

I've decided im not going to think about weights and totals from now on, I'm just simply looking at the up or down of the week. Aiming for -2lb a week til mid October.

Hope everyone is doing well, if not...get your butt back on track!

I lost 1.2 lbs this week. I'm hoping to lose 2lb per week but it's not coming off that quickly.

MardAsSnails · 21/06/2017 05:50

Today is 1 week since I started, so weigh in day.

14-06-17 - 101.9
21-06-17 - 97.8
Loss: 4.1kg

DH loss: 3.6kg

Clearly its just the shock to the system to lose such a big amount first week, but still, its very motivating Grin

Food this week has been very controlled:
Breakfast on weekdays: 1 pot of stoats instant oats, with 2 measured teaspoons of sugar (229 cals)
Breakfast on weekends: 2 grilled bacon with fat cut off (the dog enjoyed that bit), 2 poached eggs, and a pile of grilled tomatoes and mushrooms with some spinach (343 cals)
Lunch: homemade smoothie (hairy dieters green book) - 206 cals (103 per serving but it makes 2), or a potato waffle and a poached egg (185 cals)
Dinner: usually something from a hairy dieters book, with a massive portion of spinach, rocket, watercress, cucumber, spring onion salad on the side. Often we double up the portions to make them 6-700 cal dinners, and then they don't seem too diety. We've done:

  • cajun chicken and wedges - 568 double portion
  • quick chicken cordon bleu - 409 - slightly less than double portion (chicken was 450g between two instead of 150g per portion)
  • Chicken and tarragon pots - 511 cals 1.5 portions (recipe serves 3)
  • chicken stir fry - double portion with noodles - neither of us finished the noodles!
  • and some that I've just 'quick added' to MFP so I can't remember what they are.

I've done 5 days of C25K in the gym, plus the dogs are getting longer late night walkies.

We're going away this weekend, but on a very active holiday for 3 nights - expecting 25-30k steps per day minimum hiking, so if we're good we can counter balance it.

After Eid, when I can eat at my desk, I'll be not having breakfast before work but taking 2 medium bananas (210 cals), an innocent smoothie (135 cals), and some cucumber and carrot batons (around 50-60 cals) with low fat yoghurt and chive dip (about 60 cals per 100g) to pick at in the day for both breakfast and lunch. I have cupasoups for emergencies. I find it easier to spread it over the day grazing rather than eating 3 diet meals, and its essential I have things to pick at that are controlled, like the carrot and cucumber.

I want to be in the 70s kg wise (even if its 79.9999999) by Christmas and a family wedding.

sweetbitter · 22/06/2017 08:22

Well I'm back to MFP...this'll be the third stint in about 4 or 5 years. I always come off it thinking I don't need it any more, but without it I just don't have the discipline to resist bad snacking and out of whack portion sizes. I think my eating and exercise habits overall are pretty healthy but it's a multitude of little things that add up over time to send me back up to the very top of my BMI whereas I feel much happier in the middle. And the ONLY thing that works for me in getting off those crucial 5kg or so is MFP. It forces me to be honest with myself and face up to the truth of what I eat rather than just brushing off indulgences one by one.

So here I am again, have set at 1600 cals per day but trying to come in at more like 1300 Mon-Thurs and then have more for the weekend. So far it's been easy enough, the hot weather has killed my appetite so it all feels very manageable. But I'm dreading the time when those afternoon snack cravings kick back in, getting from lunch to dinner without going a bit mad on afternoon snacks and then making huge portions of dinner are really my big issues. Mornings and lunchtimes themselves are fine.

Mard I see you are a Hairy Dieters fan, I recognise most of those meals being one myself!

Estherdove · 22/06/2017 09:35

Hi can I join please.
I need some help!!
Been doing mfp for 3 week's now at 1200 cals and not lost a thing!
It just won't budge, I don't know what I'm doing wrong?
I used it about 4 year's ago and lost 2 stone but I need to lose 3 now !

PastysPrincess · 22/06/2017 09:55

Hello new ladies. What are you usernames on MFP and I will add you.

I'm really struggling today. I've only had 4 hours sleep and just want to eat everything in sight cos I'm tired.

PastysPrincess · 22/06/2017 09:59

@Esterdove is it using the app you are struggling with or sticking to the amount?

FrogTime · 22/06/2017 10:00

Hi, please my I join in?

I started about 8 weeks ago and have lost 11lbs so far. I've set my daily intake at 1700 cals but have been naughty with ice cream and beer in this heat! Back on track today and hoping I'll have at least not put weight on this week!

My goal is to lose 2 stone by the end of the year so 11 of 28 down Smile

sweetbitter · 22/06/2017 13:29

Esther - have you definitely been logging accurately, especially re: quantities?

How much less are you eating than you were before you started 3 weeks ago? It does seem strange to eat 1200 cals per day for 3 weeks with no change in the scales, unless you are already small, light and not very active maybe?

Estherdove · 22/06/2017 13:50

I'm not small I can assure you. Sadly lol.
I started at 13.8 three weeks ago and today I'm 13.8 ???
I've been logging everything and I'm always around 1200 barely over.
I can't see what I'm doing wrong?

PastysPrincess · 22/06/2017 14:42

How tall are you?

sweetbitter · 22/06/2017 15:10

I often hear people say that eating too little can inhibit weigh loss, I guess because the metabolism works more slowly and the body goes into starvation mode and starts "stockpiling" calories so to speak. I think it can especially happen to yo yo dieters. I must admit I don't know the science behind it though, or how likely it is to be the case. Maybe you could try upping your calories a bit to see if it starts a shift?

Alternatively just give it longer, sometimes I think the body can work a lot more slowly than we imagine.

ItMustBeTuesday · 23/06/2017 23:36

Hi, I've been lurking on this thread for a bit. Just adding a few of you on MFP because I don't have any friends on there and o think it'll help me stay on track! Thanks for all your inspiration so far.

PastysPrincess · 24/06/2017 21:07

FFS DH returned from shopping with a great big bloody chocolate fudge cake. Got himself a bowlful and come out the garden eating it with a great big smile on his face. I tell him I haven't got enough calories for it and he stands there eating it still and says "oh what a shame"

FluffedIt · 25/06/2017 18:39

@PastysPrincess did you have any cake?!

OP posts:
PastysPrincess · 25/06/2017 18:47

No. I made him chuck 3/4 of it in the bin. It smelt devine!

PastysPrincess · 26/06/2017 07:42

3.5 lbs off this week, so glad I resisted the cake!

FluffedIt · 26/06/2017 21:46

Well done pasty!

I didn't get my 2lb off this week but under cals today and nearly at step goal. Feeling good for next week instead!

OP posts:
sweetbitter · 27/06/2017 10:46

That's an amazing loss Patsy, well done.

I lost 1.5kg in my first week, but weigh in today shows I've gained half of it back after the weekend. I'm not surprised as I wasn't really making the effort over the weekend, and on Sunday was at an extremely lavishly catered and looong BBQ party and had already decided to not even try to count! God knows how many calories were eaten and drunk over the course of that day.

I need to be as careful as possible during the week as I do want to be able to let go more at weekends, so I expect to see quite a bit of up and down on the scales in the short term, hopefully will be overall long term loss though. I'm happy so far.

PastysPrincess · 27/06/2017 15:35

I work on the basis that it's the overall number of calories you consume that matters not an individual day. So if you have an event on a weekend you could lower you calories in the week and increase by the same amount at weekends.

FluffedIt · 27/06/2017 21:31

I do too, pro rata the weekly calories!! Lol
