Breastfeeding calendar?

VictorianSqualor · 12/04/2008 10:07

After seeing some of the beautiful pictures on the breastfeeding photos thread and watching the nude photoshoot on Young Mums Mansion the other day I've had a look for some breastfeeding calendars and it seems there are but two.

One of which just looks like playgroup type pictures, the other is the IBFAN calendar.
If I were to arrange (hopefully in conjunction with MN and the new Breastfeeding helpline) a calendar would you buy it? pose for it?

Hopefully MrsBadger won't mind me linking to this post, but this is the type of thing I was thinking.
Something arty that shows the real beauty of breastfeeding.

Would also be greatful to hear from anyone who is, or knows a photographer or a great location for the pictures.

It would have to be for 2009 now so I'd think we have plenty of time.

I've got a good photo with ds1 him resting across one knee feeding him and my cat sitting on the other knee! got lots iwth other two as well. would love to do this only ds2 is 2.5 now so maybe a bit old (he is still feeding) but if you want any toddler photos would be up for it. although the photos can be any age I suppose.

SirDigbyChickenCaesar · 15/04/2008 09:10

how did i miss this thread??

sadly i'm not BFing anymore but would gladly help with taking photos. I'm in Central scotland.

Once again, I haven't had a chance to read through all the posts, so apologies if I am repeating stuff that has already been talked about, but I was thinking about this in bed last night and had some more thoughts:

Re printing - I know a company that might be willing to do us a deal on printing, they are quite a small company so might not be able to do it for free, but hopefully could do it for cost.

Also design - once we have all the photos they will need to be put together into calendar format; not sure if we have any designers here but if not I have a friend who might be willing to do it, will try and get in touch with him this week.

Once we have something up and running I can also talk to the people who do my company's PR and ask them if they could send out a press release (or could MN HQ do this?) so that we can get some media coverage.

And finally, I posted before about DH asking John Lewis to stock it - he is going to get the details of who he needs to speak to today, and I want to give him some bullet points of what to say; can someone give me an idea of where we are exactly - what is the exact aim, is there a chosen charity etc?

ruty · 15/04/2008 09:46

i started a thread on this a while ago, www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1374&threadid=324090#6550687
and got quite a lot of interest, as well as some interesting points about my plans to distribute said calendar to places where breastfeeding rates are very low and formula is aggressively marketed [developing countries] I never made the homepage though, well done VS [who is having her baby today..]
Baby Milk Action do their own calendar, but it might be good to donate the profit to a charity like that, or a UK based charity who also promote breastfeeding, maybe in hospitals?
Mrs Badger's photo beautiful by the way.

BBBee · 15/04/2008 10:02

fab idea - good luck

wilbur · 15/04/2008 10:23

My breastfeeding days are done (otherwise I would be thrusting my norks forward for the job), but just wanted to say I think this is a lovely idea. Mrs Badger's pic is indeed terrific, and I esp like that she is reading a book at the same time - something that is much harder to do if you are bottle feeding. Good luck .

breadandroses · 15/04/2008 10:37

What a great idea!

I am breastfeeding 9 month old twins and would love to get involved with a project like this.

Am in London.

lackaDAISYcal · 15/04/2008 10:39

KelaS....VSs e-mail is fan-fkn-tastic @ hotmail . co .uk. I'm sure if you drop her a line she'll pick it up in a few days when she is back home.

BexieID · 15/04/2008 10:48

My boobie feeding days are over for the now, but I would be interested in doing something. Maybe if the Scotland crowd want to do something, I can offer my services as photographer? I have done a couple of weddings!

Breastfeeding in the grounds of a castle would be good, lol. On a boat, with Ben Lomond/Nevis in the background. Any londoners daring enough to feed on the London Eye?

Would also be good if we did a diary?

Anyway, i'm in Scotland and I do visit my parents in Wokingham a few times a year, depending if a shoot coincided with a visit, lol.

Stefka · 15/04/2008 12:53

Oh good a Scotland based photographer!! I think there are a couple of us that are up for it here. I am in Falkirk so can get to Edinburgh or Glasgow easily enough. Edinburgh Castle maybe?

2Happy · 15/04/2008 14:30

Awfully late to this thread, but I am bfeeding ds2 (14m) and would love to take part. I could easily get to Edinburgh if there's going to be a Scottish shoot

hobbity · 15/04/2008 14:50

What a cool idea! Havent been all through the thread, but anyone around East Anglia?? My contribution is a ds 14months and several BF's in the cathederal no less!

Caz10 · 15/04/2008 17:12

Fab, lots of Scots! Edinburgh a bit further for me, but I'm sure we could still make it through - the castle would be great, or somewhere like Arthurs Seat?

I guess it depends on the range/balance of things that are to go in the calendar, most things would be easy to find - eg if a rural setting is what's missing from the overall collection of pics we could track one down, but equally if the collection was lacking something like a museum, we could do that too!
does that make sense?!

Martha200 · 15/04/2008 18:37

I think it's a great idea too.
I liked the suggestion I read earlier of a collage (sp?) of mummies feeding their babies/children to be included too

Public place I feed most often with my family is in pubs.. we irritated a lady recently who was a market researcher who said were we out for a meal? Our reply was no, just a few drinks and how she gave the disapproving glare

Am in Swindon.

mum2sons · 15/04/2008 18:40

Late on this thread
Fab idea. Would be really happy to get involved. BFing DS3 who is 3 months old, need a few more weeks of slimming world before I get my wobbly bits out though!

PillockOfTheCommunity · 15/04/2008 18:40

I'd be up for it, ds2 is just 1 and I am likely to still be bf by the time he's 2 at this rate

BouncingTurtle · 15/04/2008 18:47

Mumto2sons - there is a sw thread that i'm on as a bfer, come join here!

thefortbuilder · 15/04/2008 19:01

VS i think my email went through to you. I'd love to get involved although another late one to the thread.

have ds2 who is 37+5 and has been bf'd since 34+4 - so would be happy to help if i can.

am in SW london.

mum2sons · 15/04/2008 19:16

Hi Bouncing Turtle, Thanks! Have popped over to SW thread

thehouseofmirth · 15/04/2008 20:53

DS is 3 in July and showing no signs of ever stopping so if you want a skinny 38 yo mummmy with a tall blond 3 yo then we're all yours.

Photo on profile.

For the sleeping through the night thing what about a co-sleeping photo with baby asleep and a suggestive (of bf!) bit of boobage?

berolina · 15/04/2008 20:57

Congratulations VS

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 15/04/2008 21:06

I would be up for this too. I think its a great idea. Due in August.
Im in South Yorkshire.

WriggleJiggle · 15/04/2008 21:13

Great idea, would love to help. I'm in North London with a bfing 6month old and non bfing 2yr old.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/04/2008 21:16

How have I not spotted this thread until now?!

Whilst I am somewhat fat and ugly, I am still feeding 2.2 yr old dd, and am 16 weeks pregnant, so am happy to demonstrate extended feeding, and that it doesn't stop you conceiving again!

Am in North Herts (near SGK and lisad), but can travel.

Can't remember if you've got a phototgrapher for London area yet, but I can ask hub2dee (well known ex MNer who managed to break the habit!) if he'd do it if you want one.
