Mumsnet has showed me the meaning of prejudice

Hannie55 · 12/08/2007 13:03

OK, so i breastfed dd.
Intend to bottlefeed this one (due end aug).
Must be pretty neutral right?
So why is it when i read the debates on here that its clear as day to a neutral that its mums who bottle feed formula to their babies that are the ones being judged and harangued?
Yet its some of the breastfeedrs who shout loudest and demand the acknowledgement that they are in fact the opressed?
What makes it worse is its so underhand and sly, if any bottle feeders come back they are accused of being prejudiced, paranoid and of supressing guilt (wtf?!).
Mumsnet has really opened my eyes to some wierd views, none moreso than the anti-formula lobby (who of course are not anti formuls at all).

Really did not realise these people existed, thankfully they only appear in cyber-space!

So you're not judging anyone then....

Hannie55 · 12/08/2007 13:05

Not for there choices no.
For their attitude to others, dam right i am judging it.

Hercules she is a newbie, when shes has been here a bit longer she will see what MN as a whole has to offer.

Though I rather suspect from something she posted on one of my threads, that she speed reads and does not always grasp the essence of the post. Possible also in this case.

gess · 12/08/2007 13:07

I guarantee this will kick off. Hope you're wearing a hrd hat. Although I've done both and kind of agree with you.

You learn early on to stay off bfeed/bottlefeed threads on mumsnet unless you want to enter an alternative reality.

hercules1 · 12/08/2007 13:09

Nice

Hannie55 · 12/08/2007 13:09

bree, i know that mn has lots to offer. i love it. nothing against mn as a whole AT ALL.(have read intently btw)
Gess. thanks for warning but im not saying anything i dont beleive. so i will live with it!

Marvelous! Glad we could help. (what are you talking about?)

hercules1 · 12/08/2007 13:11

Perhaps you could back up your accusations with some examples. I've been here for a few years and not seen what you see.

hercules1 · 12/08/2007 13:11

Oh www, would you take a look at my new thread in property please. REthinking my plans!

hunkermunker · 12/08/2007 13:12

[tired]

WideWebWitch · 12/08/2007 13:12

So hang on, I've just read your OP again.

Is your point that you feel discriminated against on mn as someone who intends to bottlefeed an as yet unborn baby and that you'd like us all to know that you breastfed your first but don't want to do it again?

If so, fine by me, do what you like!

WideWebWitch · 12/08/2007 13:13

Will do herc!

hercules1 · 12/08/2007 13:13

Perhaps you're feeling a bit defensive and guilty?

hunkermunker · 12/08/2007 13:14

I'm part of the "anti-formula company and their underhand advertising and other disingenuous and cynical tricks", but not anti-formula.

I think, perhaps, somewhere along the line, you've got a bit confused about the difference.

hercules1 · 12/08/2007 13:15

Do you really think that that is the meaning of prejudice and that's how someone can learn what the word really means? SO many more examples of prejudice spring to mind in the world.

pagwatch · 12/08/2007 13:15

hello.
I breastfed all my three children.
You b/f first but will bottle feed this one?

Fine. Good for you. Whatever suits. Be happy.

collision · 12/08/2007 13:15

Bizarre!!!

It is a fact that BFing is best for your baby.

end of

Not everyone wants to and not everyone is able to because of different issues and you can of course make your own decision.

I am passionate about breastfeeding and once I had the hang of it, loved it with all my heart.

Do what you want. I dont care. I have no idea what you are bleating on about but wish you all the best with your new baby. Breast fed or bottle fed. (am wondering why you will bottle feed your new baby when you BF your first baby)

Hannie55 · 12/08/2007 13:16

No WW. my point is that i'm in a neutral position and as someone else here said the ff/bf threads are like an altered reality.
Just felt the need to sya how the whole debate looks to me because bottlefeeders get a rough ride on here.

Need to go out now. Just wondering if you could show some examples.

Tutter · 12/08/2007 13:18

what collision said (apart from i have 2) (dc) (oh, and breasts)

Saturn74 · 12/08/2007 13:18

I don't post on bf/ff threads, so haven't really seen what you describe, hannie.

I think you have made your point very clearly - did you post similar comments on the offending threads too?

If so, I don't really see the need for a whole new thread on the subject, tbh.

Such emotive subjects are bound to produce heated discussions. I think you have to accept that if you plan to keep posting on those threads.

If there is a particular post that breaks the MN rules eg: includes a personal attack against another poster, then you can report it using the red exclamation mark.

yesmynameisigglepiggle · 12/08/2007 13:19

Actually as a breastfeeding mother I feel scared here to actually say that I am breastfeeding because (shock horror) it is best for my baby.

hunkermunker · 12/08/2007 13:25

Have you also seen massive levels of support for women on here?

Or would you prefer to concentrate on edited negatives?

collision · 12/08/2007 13:27

tutter!

I have 2 breastfed children and 2 breasts too!!!
