Mumsnet has showed me the meaning of prejudice

OK, so i breastfed dd.
Intend to bottlefeed this one (due end aug).
Must be pretty neutral right?
So why is it when i read the debates on here that its clear as day to a neutral that its mums who bottle feed formula to their babies that are the ones being judged and harangued?
Yet its some of the breastfeedrs who shout loudest and demand the acknowledgement that they are in fact the opressed?
What makes it worse is its so underhand and sly, if any bottle feeders come back they are accused of being prejudiced, paranoid and of supressing guilt (wtf?!).
Mumsnet has really opened my eyes to some wierd views, none moreso than the anti-formula lobby (who of course are not anti formuls at all).

Really did not realise these people existed, thankfully they only appear in cyber-space!

I have never seen haranguing of formula feeding mothers on here (and I have bee here a few years now) for using formula, and I don't recognise the 'slyness' observed by the OP. I have seen the occasional judgemental and tactless comment about formula and formula users, and even more rarely, deliberate insensitivity.

Far, far more often, I have seen understanding, acceptance and appreciation of the fact that mothers use formula for all sorts of reasons, and that these reasons are their own - and that many mothers who use formula feel far from happy and relaxed about it.

The OP expresses astonishment that some formula feeders may be suppressing guilt - why is this astonishing? This happens - it happens in all sorts of aspects of life, and it certainly happens with feeding, and we've discussed it any times on these boards. The sadness is that no one needs to feel guilty - 'guilt' is the label we give to feelings of sadness, disappointment and anger, but we call it 'guilt' even though 'guilt' should be reserved for bad things we deliberately choose to do out of selfish motives...not something that applies to infant feeding.

Sorry - not had time to read ALL posts.

I do agree with the OP though and avoid breast/bottle feeding threads on a normal basis because of this reason.

People can be hurtful and judgemental about FFs - 'Why wouln't you BF your baby when it's obviosuly best?', 'Jordan's so weird cos she says her breasts are for one person only' or words to that effect.

I tried BFing and didn't enjoy it so I stopped. I enjoy FF and it gave my DH chance to feed and bond with our LO too.

I think it is just personal choice - I don't have an opinion either way on other people's choice regarding it.

hunkermunker · 12/08/2007 23:09

Wilkie, I really don't see comments like 'Jordan's so weird cos she says her breasts are for one person only' as a judgement on ffeeders, more as a very, very sad way to view your own body - she's talking about Peter Andre, I believe, here.

I would feel as uncomfortable about a woman saying that her breasts were for one person, and meaning her baby.

Mine are mine. I choose what I do with them.

I think that mumsnet has opened my eyes about how to be pro BF without being smug or in your face. At least I try v hard not to be. I was very lucky(i know that now) no real problems BF. Mumsnet has shown me how people can struggle and be overwhelmed and I didn't understand that before.

ROFL at Jordan's boobs being for one person only

Most of the planet is acquainted with Jordans boobs

MrsJohnCusack · 12/08/2007 23:31

I would like to nominate 'i ahev a dream i telly ou' as quote of the week. it's quite poetic.

and beety - red wine I reckon.

I don't think this issue is ever going to be resolved TBH. I do think people don't actually read posts properly e.g. by Hunker, Mears etc. as well which doesn't help much. I am feeling quite sad about the whole thing actually, and quite furious with IK for basically stirring with a big overpaid stick

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/08/2007 23:31

I'd like to muster up the energy to care.

I really would.

Can I just ?
