I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

no nasty comments. only the occasional uncomfortable look and I think one person got up and moved to a different part of the pub (and believe me, I was discrete what with my waistline so they must have been quite unused to spotting it going on or they maybe thought I needed the privacy!)

mostly people didn't notice or smiled or said something nice.

ArtichokeTagine · 21/06/2007 11:54

Been BFing for 10 months.
No comments EXCEPT veiled ones from MiL and a "friend" from my ante-natal (who did not BF) who both think it is weird to keep BFing after 6 months and after teeth come through.

feetheart · 21/06/2007 12:10

No, me neither and I've fed 2 till about 14mths each and fed EVERYWHERE!

Best reactiion I got when feeding DS was in the midddle of a busy shopping centre. An elderly Asian woman walked past, did a double take and then gave me a HUGE grin and a thumbs up! I'm still grinning over a year later

FrannyandZooey · 21/06/2007 12:11

brandnewhelsy · 21/06/2007 12:14

Only from my mother

diplodocus · 21/06/2007 12:18

no comments at all -either positive or negative. Just left to get on with it.

3sEnough · 21/06/2007 12:21

No comments at all with 3 (fed for up to 11 1/2 months with each although probably only fed in public until about 9 months) - and I fed everywhere!!

Never - and dd was breastfed for two years, so there was plenty of opportunity

The only people who were unsupportive and made negative comments were family - my mother was always making mutterings about me feeding on demand, my sister (who was told by her HV that her milk was poisoning her babies so couldn't breastfeed) told me that the only reason I needed to feed dd every two hours was because my milk was crap, and sent me disposable bottles and cartons of pre-made formula, and my MIL made her disgust of breast-feeding perfectly clear.

pania · 21/06/2007 12:22

No reaction from anyone ever - no comments, no nasty looks. And I breastfed everywhere too.

I've never had a problem either and although DS3 is only 4 weeks old I've already won over the Morrisons Cafe staff - the other day I had to dash to the cafe for a drink while I fed DS3 (again - he's making a habit of waking and screaming for a feed while I'm in the middle of shopping LOL) and I had DS2 with me (again) - the Cafe Supervisor opened one of the toys from a Kids Pack to get the crayons out, grabbed some paper from somewhere in the kitchen and brought them over for DS2 to do some colouring while we were waiting for DS3 to finish .

toomuchtodo · 21/06/2007 12:25

never had a problem, only praise and i BF BOTH MINE

(OOPS)

LizaRose · 21/06/2007 12:26

Fed 2 DC anywhere and everywhere and never had a negative comment.

ejt1764 · 21/06/2007 12:28

Never - have always had really lovely supportive comments from strangers ... was very helpful, as it always seemed to take an age to get ds settled and comfortable!

Least supportive person was mil - the comments were priceless (think she was jealous as she hadn't been able to feed dh!)

Jas · 21/06/2007 12:39

Me.

yaddayah · 21/06/2007 12:59

Never.

Everyone very supportive, most people oblivious, if ever i see someone bf'ing i also try to arrange my face into a suitably approving expression

And probably look demented

motherinferior · 21/06/2007 13:00

No, although I think DP's younger brother found it a bit 'indiscreet', silly bugger.

tassis · 21/06/2007 13:01

fed anywhere and everywhere with both

can't remember any negativity...lots of lovely encouarging smiles!

Songbird · 21/06/2007 13:03

me

Notyummy · 21/06/2007 13:20

No probs...only approval.'What a lovely thing to see' from an old lady, and from a male cafe owner..'don't hide that baby away under a muslim for our benefit love....if anyone complains I will personally tell them to bugger off!'

elkiedee · 21/06/2007 13:25

I look at bfing mothers with jealousy as I've failed to be able to do it with my baby of 7 weeks. But I'm really glad that all of you can.
