I think a distorted picture may be being painted

I was once given a £1 and a cornish pasty "for me" by the Salvation Army as i sat in a shop doorway surrounded by bags (had been shopping). Aside from this-no.

OP posts:

Me too

MuminBrum · 21/06/2007 13:27

LOL at Notyummy hiding her baby under a Muslim!

stressteddy · 21/06/2007 13:27

Nope, none here. Only wistful looks from other mums whose kids were older!

Bibis · 21/06/2007 13:27

Have fed where and whenever necessary and have never had a negative comment.

BF for 3 out of 4 babies, couldn't do it for number 1

Pinkveto · 21/06/2007 13:31

no negatives - total stranger walking dog saw us in a field near the house early one sunday morning and said " oh what a lovely thing to see, baby will be able to listen to all the birds"

Notyummy · 21/06/2007 13:35

errrr..I may have meant musliN. To all Muslims out there, I have never felt the need to use you to hide my baby. Soz!

Loshad · 21/06/2007 13:44

Have fed bf 4 babies, in public and often, and older babies too. i've never had a negative comment - maybe i look too scary

suedonim · 21/06/2007 13:45

I can't think that I've ever had a nasty remark made about bf.

mcnoodle · 21/06/2007 13:47

Me

Only negativity from family (as seems to be the case for quite a few on here).

theUrbanDryad · 21/06/2007 14:16

i find it interesting that most pictures of breastfeeding support pillows have someone bottlefeeding on them! i think it shows a good general picture of most people's attitudes to bf-ing!

here and here

(in fact, that second one, dh did the PR for, and they featured it in Mother & Baby magazine, and they needed to do more pictures with someone using it for bf-ing, because Mother & Baby said they couldn't be seen to promote formula feeding!!)

Egypt · 21/06/2007 14:21

no comments at all. of either variety

tut' the english

maxbear · 21/06/2007 14:25

a few looks but no negative comments (well apart from my toddler shouting 'bottle' in the early days whenever I bf!) I have always kind of wished that someone would comment so that I could tell them exactly why I bf, of course I would do it so eloquently that they would walk off with their heads hung!

VoluptuaGoodshag · 21/06/2007 14:27

Never, only positive comments and adoring looks

policywonk · 21/06/2007 14:37

Still feeding DS2 at 2.6 and have had a few looks, but only one comment - 'Bitty' (inevitably) yelled by a 15-year-old, smoking at the top of a slide in a playground when he should have been at school. And even he scuttled away when I started to walk towards him to discuss the matter (with DS2 still attached).

I don't hold with this business of being 'discreet' - or, at least, I don't think women should feel that they have to be discreet, although if that's what you would prefer to do, fair enough. I just pull mine out, and anyone who feels like looking gets an eyeful. So what? Civilisation was still standing, last time I checked.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 21/06/2007 14:47

haven't read thread but in answer to op, never anything negative, just sweet ones from other mums and funny ones from old men.

Scotia · 21/06/2007 14:55

I'm in - never had a problem or nasty comment, and I fed my babies anywhere and any time they needed it.

numptysmummy · 21/06/2007 14:58

Fed 4 anywhere they were/are hungry. Always been discrete and never had anything nasty said. From churches to burger king on a busy saturday lunchtime.

meandmyflyingmachine · 21/06/2007 15:00

Nope.

None here.

Lots of lovely comments though

sassy · 21/06/2007 15:00

Never. ONly 'aah' looks from old ladies.
(lol at the sally army story in the op )

numptysmummy · 21/06/2007 15:03

I do think you have to be aware of other peoples feelings - men from the older generation etc probally would feel awkward and thats nothing to do with me being a prude or them having a problem with breasfeeding.

NKF · 21/06/2007 15:05

I've never had a nasty comment from a stranger. A few remarks from a friend about breastfeeding for a long time. Like I cared.

emat · 21/06/2007 15:08

Never had any negitive comments either. People either didn't look or else were supportive.
I had always hoped someone might say something disparaging so I could cut them with a withering comment but it never happened.

chipmonkey · 21/06/2007 16:04

No never

moulimoo · 21/06/2007 16:06

no never, actually had lots of smiles and especially from the old ladies! both with dd1 and twins, with the twins actually had some 'well dones'!!
