Hey ladies, here's a shiny new thread for us to discuss, query, whinge about and rejoice our high-need bubs!

Pretty bad night last night, bleeding exhausted. Can see why so many of you co-sleep. We haven't gone down that route, but it's never looked so attractive...

Gawd, grizzly DS. Poor tooths. Hope you have had a decent night!

Oh poor you LWL! Hopefully it will be shortlived. As soon as you can manage it, coke or lemonade is always my saviour in such situations.

So after a terrible afternoon/evening we had a not too bad night followed by putting him down at 10am this morning for a nap. When I checked him 5 mins later as there'd been no meltdown through the monitor (no noise at all actually, hence checking him to make sure it was working!) he was fast asleep! Maybe there's hope that he will self settle and I won't still be rocking him when he's 18!

Got to dash now. I'm meant to be working very hard! Wink

tickleme63 · 25/01/2012 10:39

LWL :( Hope you feel lots better soon!

Every 2 hours again last night but somehow I feel pretty okay today so far. Had a bit of trouble at 9.30pm last night (DH and I had an early night and went up at 8.15ish) when DH sneezed and frightened DS awake! He just wouldn't settle and was crying so much, poor thing! Eventually had to feed him back down. Funny thinking about it this morning but last night it was just ugh...

hi typing one handed holding 19wo DS who has just had a 1hr nap in pram and quick feed but won't stay in chair/on floor etc for more than a few minutes. so far i've managed a few mouthfuls of beans and sausage for my lunch. v irritated that he won't be put down. have not showered for 2 days as have getting out to get him to sleep in pram or dealing with dd. about to call bf counsellor as he wants to feed all the time but only weighs 4.5 kg.

TitaniaP · 26/01/2012 22:41

Titfer that sounds like hard work. How has your DSs weight gain been overall? What's his latch like? Hope you get some answers at the bf group.

titferbrains · 26/01/2012 23:07

not sure what the problem is but I gave him a bottle of ff tonight. He only took 3.5 oz but settled a lot more easily and was easier to resettle when he woke after 40 min. Has been down for a while now, so hope that it won't affect his pooing etc.

I feel sad but feeding him so often has been exhausting and very sapping. I think I will be able to cope with the days a bit better if I know I'll have a bit of time to myself in the evenings, and I hope it will all help with weight too. He is just so small and I don't want him to get sick etc.

Seeing doc and HV next week anyway.

buttonmoon78 · 27/01/2012 10:50

Our nights have gone from bad to worse. Last night was the pits with him waking at 1.30 and then whinging on and off every 10-20 mins until 6 this morning when he woke up happy and smiling. I didn't.

Bizarrely though he seems to be more than half way there to self-settling for daytime naps and going to bed (for the first time in the evening). You win some, you lose some eh? I am missing the excuse for a cuddle though and a sit down

I can't work out the potato thing at all. He's vomited it up twice with a rash. He complained loudly and cried as though his mouth hurt twice but twice he's eaten it with no problems at all Confused. I'm going to take my life in my hands later and give him banana again to see what happens. I feel like a scientist at a place where they test on animals!

And I've finally given up on taking the car seat out of the car. He's just too damn heavy. He also complains as he's quite squashed I think. I'm going to resist moving him into the next one as although he fits the bill in terms of weight and sitting up requirements, I'm not comfortable doing it yet as he still seems safer if grumpier in his little one. I've never had the problem of a baby that's too big before, it's usually that they're too little for everything!

buttonmoon78 · 27/01/2012 10:50

Oh, and sorry titfer I meant to offer sympathy. I know how the battle to continue bf a little baby can get you a bit down.

TitaniaP · 27/01/2012 13:51

Titfer I know this is suggested loads on here, but has your LO been checked for Tongue Tie? Mine had a posterior tie which are hard to spot and I had loads of probs feeding in the early days and battled with low weight gain.

TitaniaP · 27/01/2012 13:52

Oh and button my sympathies - I can't imagine how hard it must be to not know what causes the allergies. Hugs and caffeine!

SpannerPants · 27/01/2012 18:44

we've moved DS into a 0+/1 seat Button (a britax first class plus) - although he's only 17lb ish he seems longer and was looking very squished in the cabriofix. I'm going to try and keep him rear facing for as long as possible though. Sorry you're having a rough time with the sleep - is your DH around at the weekend to give you a rest?

I've just noticed that DS has one tooth and another which is about to poke through :( my little boy is growing up far too quickly! And DP is going to give him some formula tonight for the first time which is making me feel a bit Hmm - not sure why, he's going to have to have it when he goes to nursery in April as I'm crap at expressing.

Here's to a better night ladies!

tickleme63 · 27/01/2012 19:36

Evil sniffles is plaguing the Tickle household :( Feel so poo... Luckily DS doesn't seem too bunged up yet... Meant to be going birthday shopping tomorrow (31, ugh...) - DH is having DS all morning so I can escape for the first time in months! Excited but wish we all felt better!

Poor little fella has been soo itchy this evening as well, his forehead and scalp are cut to ribbons :( Gave him a bath with some Eucerin in, as the Aveeno oil we've been using doesn't seem to help, despite the fact that the Aveeno cream is great on him. He seemed less red and itchy so keeping fingers crossed he feels better. He's now the proud owner of some Scratch Sleeves, which are great at containing his raging fingernails, which seem to be razor sharp no matter how much we keep on top if them!

Hope you're all good

Ladies! Hello! I've only just spotted the new thread. It's lovely to see you all. Wine for all of you who are irresponsible enough to join me in a glass, decaff Brew for the goodie two shoes amongst us Grin

On the plus side here...
LO has got LOADS better in the car. I absolutely love parking up somewhere, going to the boot to get the buggy base out and seeing him smiling up at me from the back seat. Bless!

We've also got daytime naps sorted. He'll let me, DP or my mum put him down for naps (so no need to feed to sleep for each nap) and usually manages at least an hour at a time Grin a taggy blanket, light show and bouncing his mattress around have all helped him sleep. Don't know if any of those tips will help the rest of you?

The rest isn't so good...

He's dropped from the 91st to 50th centile Sad for weight so something isn't right. HV has been very supportive though, says she can see what a healthy, loved little boy he is and that weaning will hopefully help his weight.

But weaning, oh weaning, it's hard isn't it? He's just not interested. He'll suck on a stick of cucumber, but if we go anywhere near him with a puree, or a piece of bread, or indeed anything else, he just clamps his mouth closed. Any ideas? What worked for your LOs?

I'm not even going to mention the nights. Just far too depressing!

Anyway, good to see you all again. I hope you all get a good night's rest. Hahahahahaha!

buttonmoon78 · 28/01/2012 09:02

Tickle try Eurax if the itching is bad - it has an antihistamine in it and you use it in conjunction with your usual emollient. You may only be able to get it from the gp and will only be able to use it once a day. As it lasts for 10 hours you'll need to decide when it's most important - for me... night! Also, you can give him piriton to help with the itching. Hope you find some relief!

Mampig · 28/01/2012 11:08

Hello all

Can we take berocca and bf?? Anyone know?
Bad cough and sniffles really interrupting sleep for us, it's meant ds now going to bed with us. Feel like the clock has turned back 4 months!! Then had a big battle there now to get him down for a nap as he just wants to stay in my arms. He fought me for over an hour and am feeling stressedSad.

Just wish I could let myself let him cio, but really can't.

LWL- hope the bug passes soon! - I've heard it can be quite horrendous so look after yourself!!

tickleme63 · 28/01/2012 20:41

Button - thank you for that. Bought some Eurax today and have popped it on his dry patches on his head tonight. Do you know whether you should use it before or after using his usual Aveeno? His legs and arms have flared right up again, and his face this morning. I feel so sad for him when he's so itchy and uncomfortable.

Had a bit of a strange birthday. Couldn't sleep last night thanks to being full of cold and with a wisdom tooth on its way. DS woke every hour and wouldn't settle without a feed. He's started flapping his arms around again so he's back in the Woombie :( Sigh. Just feel like its 1 step forward and then 2 steps back.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 30/01/2012 08:30

Who's got the coffee? And the matchsticks?

Ugh. What a night. LO went down no problems at 6.30, then woke up every 45 mins until midnight when he decided it was time to be Properly Awake. He chattered away and played until 2am (urggghhhhhhh...) then went back to wanting feeding every 45 mins until he was Properly Awake again at 6.30.

DP is away. I have a cold. My tonsils are the size of bowling balls. I could really, really do with some sleep.

He is flipping gorgeous though Grin

tickleme63 · 30/01/2012 09:06

Had the night from hell last night. He was more unsettled than I've ever seen him. We ended up having him in with us all night, but at one point even that wasn't enough and I had to have him on me. He's far too heavy for that now.

I don't know what's happened to him. Normally he is fairly easy to put back down after night feeds, but it took an hour after his first one to get him back off (in our bed) and he just barely slept and cried all night. Ugh. He's off again. Think we might be doctor-bound if he doesn't change this evening

OP posts:
ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 30/01/2012 09:36

I feel your pain tickle. I'm just watching (thankfully happy tho full of cold) DS roll around on his play mat & thinking 'do you not need sleep?' i need sleep! hope yours settles soon Smile

TitaniaP · 30/01/2012 09:57

Ugh horrid couple of days here. DS is crawling which I was hoping would make him less grumpy ( as he's not so frustrated) and more tired. But no. We've had some serious screaming fits, including one where he seemed to stop breathing and went red in the face. That sent me into serious panic. not sure who was crying more when he finally took a breath!

We had his TT divided at 3 months, but I wonder whether it's regrown. He's having real problems moving some food around his mouth and then gets so upset when he can't that he screams. He also still can't stick his tongue out past his lips. We poke our tongues out at him and he tries to copy but can't. It might be nothing but I'm off to see the IFC today to check.

Tickle - I know what you mean about the not settling at night. My one saving grace with DS was that although he woke up frequently he always went back down easily by feeding without crying. Well that's gone out of the window in the last month. We have nights where he's happy to do this again and then nights where he really isn't. I swear I got more sleep when he was newborn.

Anyway here's hoping for a good day for you all.

buttonmoon78 · 30/01/2012 10:24
LittleWaveyLines · 30/01/2012 18:24

Bad nights here as well, and feeding is becoming uncomfortable again - wondering if the tongue tie is growing back... :(

JeewizzJen · 31/01/2012 06:18

Yep, newbornitis here too. Soooo flippin tired!

DP and I were saying we need to try and get DS into his own room soon as crawling seems imminent and he won't really be safe in our bed any more. That's going to be fun. Not. I can only hope that in fact all of his bad sleeping is down to needing his own space and being disturbed by us. Hmm

buttonmoon78 · 31/01/2012 10:45

Thankfully the cold seems to be on it's way out. We went to bed at 1030 last night with ds having gone down at 630 (early evening has never been a problem) so I asked dh to make lots of noise. Sure enough ds woke and took 6oz without so much as taking breath! He then only woke once in the night. He did take a while to go back off again as he was still quite snuffly but then slept til 6 like a hero. For the last couple of weeks it's all been going wrong after 1030ish so it was lovely to feel like I had some sleep again!

It seems like his appetite is back too which is great - he really does seem to be better when he has enough food and milk.

So being as it looks like I've got the steadiest hands, I'll do the Costa Coffee run today. Skinny anyone or are we all full fat? Wink

TitaniaP · 31/01/2012 11:24

Skinny for me please button!

So we had an ok night last night, he woke 3-4 times so much better than it has been. He woke about 1ish and just wouldn't settle but he wasn't grumpy so I fed him, and then put him in his cot with the mobile on and went back to sleep. I woke up a while later and he had put himself to sleep. I was amazed. He's shown me he can do it now. He has taken to sleeping on his front in the small dip between his cot and our bed (we have a kind of side car cot arrangement). Funny little boy.

I'm feeling fab today, i got a decent nights sleep, I got weighed this morning as i'm going to slimming world and have lost 2.5 pounds which is 9.5 in 3 weeks. I like SW as they give you extra allowances if you're bf so I get to stuff my face with cheese and still lose weight. How good is that? I also had DS weighed and he's jumped a centile from the 0.4 to between 2nd and 9th. Weaning seems to be having an effect!

I'm sure I'll have a crap night tonight DS will refuse everything but yoghurt ( he never refuses yoghurt) and I'll stuff my face with chocolate to make up for it. For now though I'll just enjoy feeling less rubbish than usual!

Mampig · 31/01/2012 12:58

Just for u Jen, ds went into a cot in his own room on sat night for the first. He slept a 10 hr stretch!!!!!!!! Woke at 5 for a feed and went back down again. Has gone pear shaped as the week has went on- bit its cos I'm working ft, do he reverse cycles during the week! Still it means I catch up at the weekendsGrin I'm even going to chance a dinner dance this weekend!!
