Hey ladies, here's a shiny new thread for us to discuss, query, whinge about and rejoice our high-need bubs!

Pretty bad night last night, bleeding exhausted. Can see why so many of you co-sleep. We haven't gone down that route, but it's never looked so attractive...

Gawd, grizzly DS. Poor tooths. Hope you have had a decent night!

Ooh Queen, a new sling. How exciting! Our sola has had a new wheel (it came off halfway through a buggy walk) and then the whole frame was replaced. Steer well clear! I dug my moby out the other day to lend to a friend who's due in March. It made me remember when I used to carry him, with his legs tucked it, in a foetal position. So cute.

QueenKong · 02/02/2012 21:23

That's exactly what happened to ours Titania. Twice. The second time the buggy pitched right over. Predictably, DS had been moaning so I was carrying him in a sling at the time. Grin

Hi all, change of topic:: thinking of starting Slimming World. Feeling a little bit pudgy. Felt bad when at work today one of my really lovely colleagues was making excuses for my weight "she's just had a baby". Now my bmi is 25, so I know I'm not fat, but am really feeling heavy after overhearing that :-((

Anyone been??

QueenKong · 02/02/2012 21:52

I did it a few years back when I had been enjoying myself a bit too much. I found it easy and I lost 2 stone in a few months. I like it because I have a big appetite and it doesn't involve portion control Confused. You can eat as much as you like of certain things (and not just lettuce and tomatoes) so it's good for the greedy! I might even give it another go one of these days...

Mampig · 02/02/2012 22:02

Goodness! 2 stone!!!! I too hate limiting my intake/ I really do love food and don't really overindulge but my choices of food seems to be the problem! I know I need a structure to follow that's realistic while bf, and although I've done weight watchers in the past, it wasn't sustainable for me.

That's given me hope Queen!

QueenKong · 02/02/2012 22:26

I know! Had a new boyfriend (now Mr Kong) and we both got in that happy, fat, comfortable new relationship state! Lots of lovely meals out together, brunches, wine etc. It was fab until i no longer fitted in my clothes. He lost weight too when I was doing it!

TitaniaP · 02/02/2012 22:45

Mampig - I swear by slimming world. I'm a serial yo-yo dieter and I always lose weight with slimming world. I then stop going and put the weight back on, but that's my fault not slimming world. I've been back on it for 3 weeks and lost 9.5 pounds (although I do need to lose a fair bit so it does come off quickly to start with). It's also bf friendly and allows you to have lots of calcium choices (cheese/milk) if you're bfeeding. The plan has changed in the last couple of years and is now easier than ever. You do need to be fairly organised though and it helps if you cook from scratch I find.

Mampig · 02/02/2012 23:20

Ooohhh- getting excited now! Aim to start a class next week as we are having our first night out this sat, and don't want any restrictions! It'll be our first couple night out in nearly 2 years! Can't wait!GrinGrin

JeewizzJen · 03/02/2012 07:14

Morning folks.

titania - that's fantastic!! So pleased for you, what a brilliant result!

As for slings, I've got quite addicted too, have 3 different kinds now and am contemplating another to do hip carries better as I don't find the mei tei very comfortable for them. Would a woven be best for that do you think?

Interesting talk of slimming world... I did WW years back and lost 2 stone, but I'm liking the sound of the SW stuff from what you're all saying! Titania 9.5lbs in 3 weeks in fantastic, very well done!! I really want to lose probably 2.5 stone, but I desperately want to get more exercise in and for some reason that seems to be putting me off dieting Confused At the moment, other than the walking, I only manage one night of netball, an hour (well, assuming I manage to get there on time). This should double when the new season starts and I start playing matches again, but I feel like I need a lot more! I wonder whether I can manage to get out for a short run a couple of times a week in the evening... although it's a bit frickin cold at the moment!!

JeewizzJen · 03/02/2012 07:16

Oh and thankfully we had a much better night last night, although DS wanted to feed every 2 hours again, but mostly he just got on with it and went back to sleep so I actually got a much more restful night. Weird he would wake every two hours for a feed though, been a while since he's done that. I think I need to make sure he gets plenty of solids in the day - I've been trying, but looks like he needs a bit more!

TitaniaP · 03/02/2012 08:24

Jen - glad you're getting a bit more sleep. One of the reasons I like SW is there are some foods you really can eat lots of (lean meat & fish, pasta rice and potatoes) so as long as you cook with very little or no fat you really can have very filling substantial meals which mean that you don't feel really hungry when exercising. Before I got pregnant (and couldn't fit into my shirts anymore) DH and I used to do lots if cycling. I'm looking forward to getting out on the bike again with DS in the trailer (although knowing him he'll probably hate it)!

Have you tried a ring sling for hip carries. I have a borrowed RS and find it quick and easy to use. I have friends who sear by shorty wraps though for hip carries. There are some SSCs you can do hip carries with but I think you've already got an R&R haven't you? And you can't with that one.

DS did quite well last night. Fell asleep at about 7.30. Woke at 11am and then 3am and then a bit more frequently after that. But it's certainly better than it has been.

I really want to get the side back on his cot though. He's crawling now and keeps waking me up by crawling over to me. The other morning he hit me in the face with his teddy bear. It's not too bad at home as we have a king size bed and his cot next to it - we'd hear/see him before he fell out (video monitor) but I'm off down to see family next week and my mum has purchased a travel cot. Not looking forward to trying to get him in that! Still if I can get him in his cot for the first part of the night he can come in with me afterwards.

Anyway after that mammoth post I'd better get on. We have swimming later.

buttonmoon78 · 03/02/2012 09:57

Ace night here! Feel so much better. His eczema's horrid though - I think it's down to this cold snap. Heating inside, v cold outside. It plays merry hell with mine too so I think I'm right in assuming it's that with him.

Well you're all a fat lot of good aren't you?! I can therefore discount a Sola but I'm not really any further forward! Mind you, it's no use asking as none of your babies like buggies!

Just off to do a virtual Tesco shop. I'm like old Mother Hubbard at the mo. Poor ds1 had to have school dinners today as there was not enough bread!

TitaniaP · 03/02/2012 10:09

Button - I read somewhere that people were swearing by coconut oil for eczema. Both in the bath and applied directly to the skin - only annecdotal though. Also read that some batches of Aveeno had been recalled. Not sure if you use that though.

Sorry I can't help much with the buggy. The bugaboo bee and the M&P Sola got the best Which reviews when I read them, but seeing as the Sola is crap maybe that's not much of a help either. Have you looked at the mumsnet review section?

LittleWaveyLines · 03/02/2012 10:23

Oi! I was helpful and recommended a buggy - just said my DD hates it! Grin

Slings - for a hip carry I use an ellaroo lightly padded ring sling. heavily padded ones are unwieldy, and my DD hated the non-padded one we tried. I also use it for in and out of shops, car, around the house.

The mei tai my DP uses mostly now I'm into wovens, but still good for a quick easy back carry and I dont worry about it dangling in the mud. I am getting into wovens for front and back carries.

QueenKong · 03/02/2012 11:00

LWL - can I ask what the difference between a woven and a wrap is? I have a Moby - what advantages would a woven have over that?

LittleWaveyLines · 03/02/2012 11:08

Well wraps can be either woven or stretchy. The moby is a stretchy even though it's not as stretchy as say a karime - but if it's jersey fabric, then it's a stretchy.

Stretchies are great for babies, but as they get heavier you have to tie it tighter and tighter. You also can't do back carries with a stretchy - just not safe.

Wovens have give in the diagonal direction only, so baby is still comfortable, but can't wriggle out of it - so is safe to do back carries.
There are hundreds of different ways to tie a woven, and different lengths, while a stretchy you only have one length and a couple of different ties.

buttonmoon78 · 03/02/2012 11:15

Sorry Blush

SpannerPants · 03/02/2012 13:21

I've become obsessed with slings too - DS screams until he's purple in the buggy but loves the sling. So far we have an ellaroo lightly padded ring sling which I've used everyday since I bought it, and a didymos wrap which I'm practicing back carries in. So far I've managed to cook dinner with him on my back which was great Grin

I'm going to a sling meet next week, I'm thinking a ssc/mai tai would be good to add to my collection next!

(sleep still crap, still feeding or wanting to be held constantly and extra grumpy but has eaten more solids so far today than he managed in the whole of last week - a yogurt, a piece of toast and a biscuit!)

JeewizzJen · 03/02/2012 14:09

Mmm I've not tried any back carries yet - DS is 7 months, and approx 17lbs guess he's big enough for that now?

QueenKong · 03/02/2012 14:25

Argh, now I'm bidding on an ellaroo ring sling on eBay. DH looked at me like this Hmm.

tickleme63 · 03/02/2012 15:40

Button I have a Silver Cross Linear Freeway, which can be rear or forward facing, but it's a bit of a tank. Lovely looking pram, looks nice and comfy, but it's quite heavy and bulky to store. I love it (DS has a love/hate relationship with it) but I wish it was a bit lighter.

I'm sooo chuffed - had a meeting with my boss today about my flexible working request, and he's agreed to everything I asked for! Can't believe it. Really lucky.

Brilliant Tickle!! Well done u! Must be a huge relief!

buttonmoon78 · 03/02/2012 17:30

Go tickle!

So far either a Bugaboo Gecko or a Quinny Buzz 3 is calling me!

QueenKong · 03/02/2012 17:33

Right, which one of you mofos is bidding against me on the ellaroo? Own up!

(congrats tickle btw! Yay!)

JeewizzJen · 03/02/2012 18:37

Ha, I was tempted to look but thought I'd better not queen! ;)

Brilliant news for work tickle, really chuffed for you! I have the same meeting on Monday, hope mine goes as well as yours!
