Hey ladies, here's a shiny new thread for us to discuss, query, whinge about and rejoice our high-need bubs!

Pretty bad night last night, bleeding exhausted. Can see why so many of you co-sleep. We haven't gone down that route, but it's never looked so attractive...

Gawd, grizzly DS. Poor tooths. Hope you have had a decent night!

Button - forget the pushchair, buy a sling - you know you want to!

tickleme63 · 03/02/2012 20:14

Titania Just saw your post from Thursday about your bedtime achievement :) Yay! Hope you have the same success tonight!

Tickle - fab news, I know I was really chuffed when I had a chat with my boss.

Well he put himself to sleep again tonight. He still woke up 3+ times last night but I think putting himself to sleep is the first step.

DH has gone out for the evening, feels weird, not been on my own (no DH, DS asleep and not on me) for ages

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 04/02/2012 07:20

I'm fascinated by your talk of slings. I gave up on my Close sling just a few weeks after DS was born & currently use a bjorn for short walks, but I've read bad things about them on here. Would a 'woven' be suitable for carrying DS on longer walks or is it an 'at hone' sling?

Oh, and can I have a 'whooop whooooop'? I only fed DS once overnight last night. I think it's only the second time that's ever happened!

Mampig · 04/02/2012 08:00

Whoooooop whoooooop!!! Fab Truth!! So good when that happens!!
It's amazing though- mums whose baby is an all night sleeper Envy would be complaining about that!!!

As for slings, not a clue- rarely used one- think any I have tried (limited btw) were no good, no sling meets near me, and no cash to be trying out different typesSad

But congrats on the extra sleep!

JeewizzJen · 04/02/2012 09:04

You most certainly can have a whoooop whooooop! Nice work BabyTruth!

I've never had a woven so I'm not sure, but I think they're pretty versatile, although take a little bit of practice to learn how to tie. I like my Freehand mei tei for longer walks, it's very supportive. My Rose & Rebellion carrier is brilliant for quick walks or going round shops etc as it's really quick to put on.

tickleme63 · 04/02/2012 09:14

Whoop whoop Truth Grin

Had the opposite here! Very feedy night, but then DS started babbling yesterday so he's clearly got a lot going on :)

He sounds so adorable and looks hilarious opening and closing his mouth like a fish!

Ooo and second the mei tai - I adore my Babyhawk :)

A small victory for me today - fed DS to sleep for his first nap and managed to commando away while he snoozed for an hour and a half! I got dressed, went.downstairs and actually did stuff! That's a first! Grin

LittleWaveyLines · 04/02/2012 11:54

I find my woven more comfortable with her in a back carry on long walks, than I do the babyhawk mei tai....

TitaniaP · 04/02/2012 15:15

Go Jen! I'm actually enjoying having him nap on me as an excuse to snuggle up on the sofa. But I admit it's lovely to be able to put them down.

He went from. 7.30 - 1am last night and then 2 hourly after that. Now all I need to do is work on the rest of the night!

I think a woven is the most comfortable. I use my woven if I'll be carrying for a while and the SSC (Rose & Rebellion) if I want a quick carry out and about. The R&R generally lives in the car.

buttonmoon78 · 05/02/2012 07:49

I have various slings and wraps but I've yet to find one that doens't have my back screaming in agony ater on. I can manage 45mins ish but any more than that and I'm done. I have hypermobile joints so I guess that's why it's not ideal.

Mampig have a little look into making your own. Most wrap slings are simply a bit of strong enough fabric. You could improvise with an old sheet. There's loads of info on the web.

LittleWaveyLines · 05/02/2012 08:33

Can I be the voice of dissent? I tried with a simple piece of cloth, and it really did not work for me (also hypermobile joints and back problems), but a proper woven sling is really comfy for me. There is a difference - they have stretch in the diagonal only. (sorry...)

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 05/02/2012 09:16

Thanks for the sling advice. I've been looking on eBay for some of the designs you mentioned, but an also going to go back & try my Close one again as I realised I was wearing it wrong Blush

Mixed night here... LO was awake & upset all evening. Eventually realised he really wasn't very well when he projectile vomited on me as I attempted to take his temp. Poor darling! After a good bout of calpol & the realisation that I was just going to have to curl up next to him we all got some sleep ( only one feed between 11 & 6 again! Whooop!)

He's still not right so I'm trying to decide whether to try for an out of hours docs app or hang on till tomorrow.

LittleWaveyLines · 05/02/2012 10:32

Try here instead for slings...

www.naturalmamas.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=28

Hope he gets better soon.... my DD had a sickness bug last week - then we all got it! Only lasted 24-36 hours though if that's any consolation...

TitaniaP · 05/02/2012 11:30

Nooo not Natural Mamas! That way bankruptcy lies... Two slings and a few nappies later, I'm never going on there again, the bank account can't cope!

LittleWaveyLines · 05/02/2012 11:46

Ha ha you may be right there Titania! I've got awfully addicted to both nappies and slings - and that website just feeds it! Grin

JeewizzJen · 05/02/2012 15:03

Weird night for me last night, DS decided to be wide awake between 12 and 1, most unlike him, and then at around 3 my 'cold' which had been just a snotty nose and swollen painful glands in my neck decided to turn into a temperature of 38 with an hour of full on shivering! Amazingly (thankfully) DS stayed asleep through it. I feel rough today, though the temp has gone down. I feel weak and achy, guess its a bout of flu, I hope DS doesn't get it!

TitaniaP · 05/02/2012 18:04

Oh no Jen that's rubbish hope you feel better soon and hope DS doesn't get it!

Mampig · 05/02/2012 20:03

Button- fab idea!! I've lots of curtain fabric I could use! Bought cos I was going to try to make my own, but can't get the time!! Thanks for inspiration!!

QueenKong · 06/02/2012 06:50

Urghhh. Just urghhh. Third horrible, waking every hour and a half night in a row. Tooth related I think. And DH has refused to move his fat arse this morning an yesterday morning so not only have I done all the night wakings but I've also been up at 5:30. Feeling sorry for myself.

DH even had the cheek last night to say 'maybe we should move him into his own room - you're always moaning that you're tired.' oh right, yes because it'll be that simple to put him asleep in his cot. Maybe if you got up with him in the morning instead of laying there farting I'd get a little more sleep. Urghhhh again.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 06/02/2012 07:04

Oh Queen, I feel for you. In fact, I just came on here to whinge about that exact same thing... I can do the settling in the evenings because DP can't deal with the tears, I can do the night feeds (because he clearly doesn't have boobs) and the endless resettling overnight, I can get up at 6am every morning when LO is awake (not 'in a few minutes' when DP can be arsed to get up), but I'd REALLY, REALLY appreciate some bloody support. A 'well done' would be nice. Less nagging ('he should be in his own room', 'that boy needs a routine', 'if we'd done it my way from the beginning', yaddad yadda) would be fucking awesome. Seriously, I am this close to packing up and going to my mums, where I get a cuddle and a cup of tea in the morning instead of being greeted by a bloody grump.

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 06/02/2012 07:21

Sorry. Rant over. Just feeling a bit hard done by this morning!

QueenKong · 06/02/2012 07:43

The "I'll get up in a minute" line really annoys me too ATruth. Because 20 minutes later, he's still snoring away, DS is moaning and I'm sitting on my hands to avoid smothering DH with a pillow. Then when he eventually drags his carcass out of bed, I'm too wound up to go back to sleep.

I was annoyed anyway yesterday. I asked DH to have DS for an hour so I could have a bath. DS started moaning about 20 minutes in. Instead of trying to work out what was wrong, DH brings him up to our bedroom (right next to the bathroom) so all I can hear is DS, until I get out of the bath to sort him. Turns out DH was trying to get him to go to sleep. He had only woken up an hour ago, no wonder the poor little thing was annoyed.

I shouldn't moan, he's much better than a lot of husbands but still...
