Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MammyG · 12/08/2010 23:13

Hi all
Well survived the epic cross country trip to visit brother and family. Hardest part was balancing our schedule with my mother! she has the worst sleeping habits in the world and it just doesnt blend with young children. Kept going on every morning about how little she slept etc All this while I am lucky if I get an hour straight. I am waking up almost hourly for the loo and have to go 2 and 3 times to feel I have emptied. She complained she was exhausted this morn. Told her 'exhausted' was a town I passed thru weeks ago!
Thanks for the feed back on the name. Love all the names mentioned too. Arlo is unusual I think its a super boys name.
Jay and Debs - hope all is well!
On one hand just want to have the baby so that pregnancy is over, on the other feel nervous about having newborn and balancing all that again! So uncomfortable at the mo. Stomach really acting up too. Hope the next 6 weeks fly by.

cinnamongreyhound · 13/08/2010 08:47

Quick question about nipples! Has anyone had very itchy nipples the last couple of days and was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this, I don't remember it last time. I have an appointment with midwife on Weds so will ask her then, don't want to have thrush before I even have the baby as it was a nightmare when I had it with DS.

Chathappy lots of babies are back to back read the spinning babies website for tips about how to change it. DS was back to back and didn't turn during labour but there are lots of positive stories here, I did push him out without assistance but I was induced and there were suggestions that his position meant that labour didn't start so I would be inclined to have a go at turning your baby.

parkj83 · 13/08/2010 12:01

Thanks swordfish I am feeling positive-ish about friday, just so long as DH can come with me!! I'm useless on my own; I end up agreeing with whatever's said, and then half hour after the appt, I can come up with several points to argue with!!

Feeling a lot better today, I only had to get up once in the night, whereas for the past couple of nights I've been up at least once an hour! fingers x-ed it'll stay that way!!

bananastew · 13/08/2010 19:14

Hi! Hope everyones ok! Ds has gone to grandmas till Sunday so we can get ready for his birthday party and have a little rest! What do I do??? So far I've watched crap on tele and wandered aimlessly round the house!

I don't even have anything pregnancy related to report on!

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 19:36

have a bath, watch more crap, eat some crap, order dh around a bit...do as little as is humanly possible!

have fun!

Chathappy · 13/08/2010 19:39

bananastew that sounds like my kinda day at the moment !

thanks swordfish and greyhound - i am hoping that the op position doesnt cause any problems ! Confused

i had my consultant appointment this morning and all still ok for the vbac and they have booked me in for a section at 40+12 (20th sept) if nothing happens naturally by then. To be honest, Im quite happy with that as I think I will be pretty fed up waiting by then ! Hopefully I'll go in to labour before then though.

I'm definitely going to check out that spinning babies website - anything that might help anyway !

Has anyone else been doing hypnobirthing or natal hypnotherapy? DH and I did a hypnobirthing course a couple of months ago and I have been practising since. Be interested to see if it works as a small part of me is still a little sceptical ! (which the hypnobirthing teacher said is completely normal and wont effect whether it works or not!). So many people rave about it though that have done it so fingers crossed.

Love the name Arlo btw as well Smile

Chathappy · 13/08/2010 19:41

How do I add myself to the list in the op? Do I copy and paste it into a new message and add myself ?

Hmm, eating crap skye - definitely my favourite pastime at the moment ! Grin

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 19:52

im currently munching on a bag of chips...and a milkshake to stop the heart burn!

Grin
cinnamongreyhound · 13/08/2010 20:32

That's exactly what you do Chathappy! But I think there's a more recent one as love2dance had her baby so you may need to scroll down a bit to add yourself to the most up to date list.

I haven't put on any weight since I got pregnant until this week and now I seem to be getting heavier by the day. I don't feel that I'm eating more and although I'd love to eat crap most things give me heartburn so am avoiding. Think it probably because its the school hols and I am not walking to school and back twice a day pushing a double buggy!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, we've had SO much rain today it's ridiculous!

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 20:36

oh yeah,i meant to vent about this yesterday...we went to our 'parentcraft class' it's where the mw scares the crap out of you about epidurals and transfers to big hospital...anyhooo,mw says not to come in for pain relief until you are 3cm dialated-but that you can come in in early labour an they'll tell you how far along you are,an to go home unless 3cm or more.she moves on to talking about various pain killers etc...and a guy at the back pipes up "urr yeah but whats all this dialation crap?!" his partner backs him up "yeah what the f**k you on about anyway?!"
midwife looks like this Shock

seriously, how the hell do you get to the last month of pregnancy without having a bloody clue how its going to come out?!!!

on a different note someone somewhere is probably chating on a site much the same as this.that there was an insufferable know-it-all in their class who wouldnt stop raising her hand to answer every question...seriously,i cant help it...its genetic...Blush

parkj83 · 13/08/2010 20:48

lol skye I went to one when pg with DS and was put off straight away by a teenage yob effing and blinding at the mw about why he couldn't go in to see his (15 yr old) gf when she was rushed in for monitoring etc etc, he never let her get a word in edgeways! Complete waste of time. Plus, I wasn't birthing at that hospital, so I gave up. I won't be attending any with this one either!

But my aunt was telling me about the questions asked in the classes she attended, about where the baby would come from... they included "will it come from my tummy button" and "will it come through that dark line on my belly"

They honestly didn't have a clue!

Love2Dance · 13/08/2010 21:02

Hellooooo (waving pair of disposable knickers from the finish line). Greetings to all of you. It's taken me 2 days to do a catch up read. Not long now ladies! My sympathies for all of the pain, discomfort and hormone stuff. I wondered whether anyone might have joined me but seems all of your lo's are going to cook until they're nice and ready.

After the shock of the high bp, IUGR, low fluid and emergency c-section we stayed at our nominated hospital for a week then got transferred to our local hospital a week later. I travel there every day and try to spend time with DS1 first thing in morning and in evenings. The rest of my life has gone by the wayside. V difficult to do or think of anything else.

Baby (called Raphael) got out of his incubator yesterday after nearly 3 weeks. He is still tiny but is now the grand weight of 1.425 kg (about 3lb 1oz). Local hospital a real trade down but you just have to get on with it. I had forgotten the mini battles one has to wage sometimes with the nurses (no thank you, I don't want him to be bottle fed, even with my milk, until he has learned to latch on and breastfeed properly) but on the whole they are pretty good.

I am still expressing every 3-4 hours and trying to breastfeed. Not really getting anywhere yet (he is so small and latching is hard), save my tits/nipples are f**king sore. Several nice mums to chat to. Daily tears with hormones and hearing all the neonatal ICU/SCUBU stories. No idea when little Raphael will be coming home. Not until he is term or close to term I suspect.

Rooting for you from the other side ladies. Keep well. I wish you all well for your deliveries in the days and weeks to come.

22 days/35+2 (the hospitals still calculate age the latter way for premature babies)

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 21:08

the worst thing was these idiots were about 35...seriously,wtf!we have the internet now!

oh my god!
Shock
although in the ina may gaskin book i reading, one of the women, who was now a midwife, said when she was in labour with her first child, she started to look all over her body to see where the baby would come out...she came to the conclusion that she would have to throw up the baby! it was only when her mw started to shave her that she realised where it would really come out!Shock

skyeplusbump · 13/08/2010 21:13

ahhhh! so good to hear fromyou lovetodance!
ignore my insane rantings!

so good to hear you and little raphael
(great name btw)
are doing well and managing to bf!

if any comfort my freinds baby born at 26 weeks learnt to roll over yesterday...she was only born 3 months ago!!! so rolling when in fact should only just have been born! Smile

love an hugs to you both! Smile

MammyG · 13/08/2010 23:29

Lovetodance - wonderful to hear from you! you must be so busy and totally preoccupied. What a balancing act. I hope you are remembering to take care of yourself too! Delighted to hear little Raphael is doing so well. Take care and drop by again!

Feeling totally blah today so wont stay on. Hope everyone else is doing better.

whammie76 · 14/08/2010 10:28

Love2Dance glad your baby is doing well, what a beautiful name. Smile

I'm sitting here wondering how on earth I'm going to find the strength to get more housework done. Keep getting painful BH, which MW told me was not normal and I've just to phone the hospital if it happens - well that would be numerous times a day if I did that.

Spoke to MW re changing hospital and she said that would be no problem. She said I'll receive an appointment inviting me in at 36 wks for a chat/tour. If I do change hospital choice, then I'm not allowed to change mind again. DH is not very pleased about it, as it's alot further from his work if he's there when I go into labour. so not sure what to do now for the best. Confused

MammyG hope you feel better soon!

lol at the antenatal class stories - made me giggle.

skyeplusbump · 14/08/2010 14:36

whammie he's not giving birth YOU are, tell him to get a bloody grip! you need to be comfortable in your environment to give birth...it doesnt matter how far away it is!!!Grin

mammyG also hoping you feel better, hugs Smile

i think babys dropped...bump feels alot lower although i dont think it really means anything as mw said they can bob in and out with second babys?!
dd is off to grandpa's tonight!horray! so we can prepare for baby a bit...odd feeling that i need to hoover the ceiling, clean the fridge and tidy all the mantelpiece's!!Grin

not long now guys!Grin

36+5!

Chathappy · 14/08/2010 14:40

Lovetodance you must have had your baby before I even found this thread ! So a late congratulations from me and glad to hear Raphael is doing well at the hospital. I'm sure it won't be too long before he is home with you.

I can't believe some people dont even know how a baby comes out of their body ! I went to my first antenatal class as it covered all the labour stuff (which Ive only been halfway through as I only got to 5cms before having an emcs before) and I was going to go to the second one yesterday that was more about the postnatal stuff but then there was a good film that dh had sky-plussed on the tv and we ended up watching that.....oops Blush... I convinced myself that they would only be talking about stuff that I knew about already having 2dc anyway... !

On a slightly annoying note I somehow managed to slip on the stairs today (my balance when heavily pregnant is diabolical!) and I whacked the side of the stairs and think I may have broken my little toe (great aye !). Dh is a season ticket holder and is at football today so Im at home with the kids with my little toe plastered to the toe next to it hobbling round the place ! Great.... ! Confused

whammie76 · 14/08/2010 15:42

Skye - I've spoken to him now, he's at work, but emailed him to say my appointment had come through this morning and that's exactly what I said, it's me giving birth not him. Also said he was probably bothered by what his mother would think, as other hospital is on their doorstep, and she'll prob have plently to say about my decision to change. Smile As if I'm worried Hmm. DH said that wasn't true anf if I wanted to change then he would be fine with it. Glad we've sorted it out now.

I had quite a crap time after birth of DD last time in current hospital I'm booked into, it really upset me and put a complaint in after I got home. Same hospital has also closed one of it's 2 wards and have had staff cuts. Also, my old childhood neighbour is a MW there and think I would feel uncomfortable if she was on when I give birth, yes I know it's really daft!

Chathappy - oh that sounds sore, hope you're ok and hope your toe mends soon!

skyeplusbump · 14/08/2010 15:57

good!Smile
and i dont think it's daft...i would be uncomfortable with it to...and you have bad memorys there.Sad
good luck with the new place,im sure it will be much better Smile
i had crap with my last birth too,the night mw's were utter bi**s,and i really didnt want to be there, luckely thats miles away from me now and theres a mw center just down the rd! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 14/08/2010 16:58

Feel like my baby is trying to escape today and its starting to make me feel pretty sick :(

Glad things are going well Love2dance it's good to hear from you!

My next door neighbour was very similar. Her baby was due 1 month before DS and we ended up in same antenatal class. After the videos they showed us of childbirth we both ended up waiting for the toilet where she told me how shocked she was by the videos and she did know it would be like that! Not really sure what that is but none of it was any surprise to me. Showed a water birth, hospital vaginal birth and cs so nothing too outlandish. Not sure how you can get to any age over 16 and not know what's going to happen when you give birth really.

DS is convinced the baby is going to explode out of me despite me trying to explain on many occasions that it really won't and that there is a special place for the baby to come out of. Still not sure he realises that there will be another little person sharing our house very soon.

37+4

whammie76 · 14/08/2010 17:11

skye, the mw's i had during my 1st labour were great, it was the ones in the postnatal ward who were awful (barr 1 who was fine) - more concerned with talking around their station than showing me how to wash dd's head (yes 1st time mothers had to be 'shown' how to clean their baby first). It was 3 days before I got shown, after numerous requests, so happened to be always when their shift was nearly over - lazy bi**s!
Also I didn't bf 1st time, so was excluded fairly quickly by them (there was a reason I didn't want to, but determined to express feed this time). pheww wee rant over!

Glad to hear you don't need to go back to your old hospital, new spangly one sounds fab. The other hospital I've now chosen has a fairly new unit too - so will be nice Smile

whammie76 · 14/08/2010 17:16

How old is your DS cinamon? My DD is 5 and we've tried to explain what happens as honestly as we can. I did have a birth programme on a while ago and they were showing a CS, she just sat there glued to the tv, I tried to change it but she was happy to see it. Did explain that was another way a baby could be born. I don't think it's hit her yet that she'll have a new brother or sister soon!

skyeplusbump · 14/08/2010 18:07

whammie yes the midwifes who delivered dd were lovely...it was the ones on the post natal night shift that were the problem, kept waking me and dd up to bf,even though she wasnt hungry and forcing her onto the breast...not nice.Sad
i just wanted to go home but they kept saying i had to wait for bf to be established!?

but this time, i know to tell them to f off as i bf'd for 18 months and i know what im doing!Grin
