bellabelly

No they didn't explain. It was just said in a sort of 'you're huge and can't possible go to term' way.
I don't know if they meant term as 40 or 37, but I took it to mean 37 cos like you said that's considered term for twins. I will definately ask for clarification. They are planning to book my c-section next time i am in. I asked when? and they said 'around 37 weeks'
I've spent a lot of this pregnancy terrified as well. A lot of it is anxiety over my mum's experience- twin boys and J was still born.

10 weeks and ticking!

sassy34264 · 18/06/2010 16:58

Just realised not said hi to amberbop Sorry- been self absorbed. Welcome.

coppertop · 18/06/2010 19:26

Just marking my place on the new thread.

Sassy - My experience with scan measurements is that they can be wrong by a fair margin. My first baby was 9lbs 8oz (1wk overdue). My second was just over a week early and was 9lbs. With my 3rd the growth scans showed that she was off the scale for measurements. I was induced at 40wks and warned that she would be much bigger than her brothers - she was a little over 7lbs.

Debs75 · 18/06/2010 21:19

My friend had regulasr growth scans with her dd and was told it was a very small baby at 5lbs.
A week later she was induced and dd was 9lb4

MummyFifi · 18/06/2010 22:24

Ummmm, anybody else started lactating?! Didn't think this was supposed to happen yet... I am 25+4. Boobs have grown to gargantuan proportions too!! (32D - 36FF). Should I be doing anything to stop or encourage said lactating?!

mellymooks · 19/06/2010 07:30

Hi mummyfifi there's no set time for when this starts, I had my first leak last night at 27 weeks but I was much earlier with my first probably around 20 weeks.

You don't need to do anything just let them get on with it, they're practising and it's comforting to know they're gearing up to work properly when needed!

You may want to get yourself some breast pads either to put in your bra as a precaution or to carry about with you if you find you suddenly need them!

My daughter has decided this week that 5.20am is apparently the right time to get up ah well guess I had better start getting used to sleep deprivation again thank God for Cbeebies!!

Happy weekend everyone.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/06/2010 09:15

Me too!! I leaked from 20 weeks with DS and was starting to worry as I had nothing this time. Leaked for first time on Sunday which was almost 29 weeks. Mine was only ever at night so didn't worry about breast pads but boy did I need them when feeding! Changed both at every feed until DS was 10 months.

comixminx · 19/06/2010 09:18

I haven't leaked as such but definitely can see some slight moisture if I look. Have had it to that level for quite a while, but no more than that. No need for breast pads for me, not yet, but a comforting feeling that my boobs know what they're meant to be doing soon!

Hi to amberbop, too - welcome on board!

Thank you Melly, Cinnamon and Comix, feeling much calmer now, this is my first and I really don't know whats normal and whats not!!! Well will pop out and get myself some pads today to keep my bras safe!! Thanks for the advice, a good weekend to everybody!

bananastew · 20/06/2010 19:50

Hi all! A new thread! OMG I'm going to have a baby! soon! I still can't get my head around it. DH and I have spent the whole weekend decorating ds bedroom, turning it into a big boy room. Its freaked me out a bit because now its done it doesn't look like a nursery anymore so he's not a baby anymore! He's a big boy in a big boy bed and there's going to be a new baby sleeping in his cot!

Hope you're all feeling well. On the subject of maternity leave I only have 2 working days left! My childminders also pregnant so has stopped having Ds so I've added all my AL on 1st. 6 weeks AL then 4 weeks ML then d day! I'm so pleased because I'm suffering quite badly with SPD and my job is pretty physical.

All you having babyshowers are very lucky. I'd love one. People keep asking me if I'm having one but no ones offered to organise one and I don't feel like Its something I can organise myself. Bit like saying hey everyone, come for a few nibbles a drink & bring baby a pressie!!

MammyG · 20/06/2010 22:56

Hi all - just catching up! Its been a crazy week. Eldest DS had circumsision on wedneday. He was such a trooper but it has been a bit crazy this week. Long day in hospital then past few days dealing with the after math. He has a little diva streak which has been entertaining! DS2 is feeling very left out tho keeps looking for his medicine and his 'willy bandage'! Bless.
Fabulous weather here so just using it as the perfect excuse to do nothing and chill out outside - feel much better for it tho have to be really careful with food. Sunshine makes everything a bit better!
My birthday today - first without dad so it was all bitter sweet. Still nice sharing the day with DH - just spoiling each other! Hope everyone else is well.

Debs75 · 21/06/2010 10:34

Happy birthday for yesterday MammyG

Swordfishtrombones · 21/06/2010 12:58

Hi everyone, welcome to another week! I had my 29 wk appt last week and the baby was transverse which I could do without! I have had excruciating twinges low down on the left as a result - I felt the little monkey turn that way the morning of the appointment too! I think she or he has turned into a more normal position now, but whether it's a bum or a head I can feel I don't know. All I know is it's extremely lively.

Also I got told I am rather anaemic so am taking iron tablets and actually I do think I have a bit more energy now, so that's positive.

Happy birthday for yesterday MammyG - what a pain having to share it with fathers' day! Did you have to toss a coin to decide who got the lie in?

I went to a spa at the weekend with my sisters and luckily I ignored all the 'advice' about what things to avoid else I'd have been sat on a lounger dabbling my toes into a swimming pool whilst everyone else enjoyed saunas, hot tubs, tropical showers etc. Is there any evidence at all to show that any of those things are harmful at this stage? I can kind of understand not going into anything too hot in the first trimester, but surely there are thousands of women in hot climates not far off sauna temperatures who are constantly in that sort of heat? It was great anyway - I just limited myself to a few minutes, and would have got straight out if I found it hard to breath or got light headed. We got a great big fat lunch as well so it was a marvellous day.

I'm really gearing up for this baby now. I don't fancy having to go shopping during the summer hols with a 5 and 3 yr old in tow, so I'm trying to get sorted in the next few weeks. And then online all the way!

Bessie123 · 21/06/2010 13:40

swordfish the heat causes foetal distress sometimes. I have heard of miscarriages at 20-something weeks after women have been in saunas and jacuzzis but I don't know how risky it is. I guess it's ok if you're careful, you must know if you're feeling too hot etc etc.

I am of you going to a spa, I would love a spa day.

SkaterGrrrrl · 21/06/2010 15:28

My nesting definitely kicked in this weekend!

  • I cleaned out the cupboard under the stairs (necessary as the ironing board, hoover etc that used to live in the spare room need a new home now its the baby room!)
  • I cleaned out a big bathroom cabinet with deep drawers and rearranged everything in an orderly way

-I filed all our paperwork, bamk statements etc and found new homes for all the files that used to be in spare room

  • I collected every pen and pencil in the house (we have a pot of stationery in each room) and tested them all while I watched a film, throwing away non worky pens and sharpening blunt pencils, then re-distributing them round the house again (seems sane; cant possible juggle a crying baby and write a shopping list with a broken pen or pencil!)

30 weeks!

SkaterGrrrrl · 21/06/2010 15:30

Oh and meant to say, I know we're 10 - 11 weeks away from giving birth but a bit of advice from a friend of mine:

She is due in 6 weeks but had to go to hospital with premature contractions. They kept her in for 24 hours and managed to stop the contractions. Her husband was abroad. Her advice to me was PACK YOUR HOSPITAL BAG because she had to sleep in her dirty clothes she'd worn to the office that day.

Swordfishtrombones · 21/06/2010 15:42

SkaterGrrrrl - would you like to come round to my house and sort out a few cupboards? Let me know if you run out of places to tidy in your own house! When I was pregnant with DD1 my house was spotless and I was so bored organised that I alphabeticised the spice cupboard! Third time round things are a bit slack different!

Bessie - thanks for the info. My reasoning was that they don't actually say 'pregnant women are not allowed in the sauna/steam room/hot tub etc' so there can't be any compelling evidence. I guesss it's like most things - moderation. I don't really like steam rooms anyway so I avoided that, but the bubbly hot tub (outdoors) was way cooler than I would have a bath, so it can't be that bad. I bet scandinavians keep on having saunas just as the french probably eat brie and drink red wine througout .

Right, hospital bag here I come....

SkaterGrrrrl · 21/06/2010 15:52

There is a funny thread about nesting somewhere in which one women hoovers her ceiling and another washes her cat!

comixminx · 21/06/2010 16:32

My MW advised me that if I ever worried about lack of movement on the part of the baby, what I could do is to have a nice warm bath, because that might get it moving. Of course that's not the same as a sauna or steam room, but I'm sure that as you say above, moderation must be key! The baby is at a temperature of 1 degree C hotter than our own bodies, so it is more at risk of overheating, which is to be borne in mind, but still.

skatergrrrl Even if i had the nesting bug, i move slower than an old man with one leg who suffers from asthma! And no way can i bend and pick things up off the floor or on a bottom shelves. Don't know how you're doing it.

I can however do the shopping bug! Got a big fat cheque off my dad today and been buying a few things for the babies.
Unfortunately the most exciting thing i bought for myself were maternity pads, breast pads and nipple cream!!!! (so glamorous)
Going to buy all the big purchases over the internet in the next few days.

Stickhasgrownup · 21/06/2010 18:00

swordfish - had my MW appointment last week and MW thought the baby may be transverse! But finally decided that its breech. Now I just have to pray that it spins round in the next few weeks

Is no one else perminantly shattered? I seem to go really slugish in the heat, but to be honest I'm not that perky on colder days either! Maybe its just that I'm on my third and childminding three days a week.
I envy skatergrrrl with her energy to clean... I can't bend over as heartburn is my latest pregnancy pleasure.

Haven't got anything for the baby... but brought bunk beds for my other two so I need to get saving again now! On the plus side my Health in Preg Grant has be paid ... I was convinced I'd never get it!

Happy birthday for yesterday MammyG

cinnamongreyhound · 21/06/2010 19:52

Heartburn sucks stickhasgrownup I've had it for weeks

I think I have a bum just under my right hand ribs but suppose it could be a head, fingers crossed for a good position. DS was back to back and would like to avoid that again! I have a growth scan on 8th July so I guess they'll see then as midwife hasn't felt position of the baby so far.

patito · 21/06/2010 21:36

HI

I haven´´t done a thing so far, realised yseterday that I´´d better at least sort out a draw for wee ones clothes soon. I never packed a hospital bag with DS1 as had home birth, am planning home birth again, but I suppose I ought to put a few things together just in case, especially as DPs idea of colour coordination is similar to Timmy Mallets

I finish work on Wed, yeah!! Hoping summer kicks in soon and can spend the rest of pregnacy on the beach.

MammyG · 21/06/2010 23:37

Hi all
Thanks for the kind wishes. I seem to have energy the past couple of days which is great. Tackling wardrobes at the moment and have began dealing with the chinese laundry that was lurking in the utility! Now I have a mountain of ironing to tuck into!
Have made a list with regard baby stuff but thats as far as I have gotten. Waiting til next week when both DH and I are free so I can head to attic and see what is there.
Must think of having bag on standby tho. With gallbladder thingy it could be an issue. Found after last few attacks that my tum was really sore as in Braxtons very strong and took a long time to relax. Really worried me but thought I would wait til I see the Gp in couple of weeks.

Swordfishtrombones · 22/06/2010 09:49

stick - could you be a little bit anaemic? I didn't realise that I was more tired than usual until I started taking the iron, and I've got a new rush of energy (making the most of it while it lasts!). I guess you've had your 28 wk bloods though already. My iron wasn't even that low either - about 10.3 I think.

Heartburn - humph. Gaviscon is becoming my new best friend (repulsive stuff bleurghhh).

Sassy - I know what you mean about the lack of glamorous shopping for oneself. I never thought I'd spend my shopping time looking at breastfeeding pyjamas and the like! I have got loads of maternity clothes now so I don't want to buy any more, and I have no idea what size I'll go back to so I am a bit stuck. Once you've bought some nice toiletries for after the birth that's pretty much it.

Skatergrrrrl I hope your cds are alphabetical too by now
