Jaysfourth and debs75 Sorry things aren't running smoothly. Hope the outcomes are the best possible, ie, no cs and home life runs smoothly! :o
I know what ever one means about worrying about home. My mum is away at the minute and i dread the thought of going it to labour and leaving DP to look after DD. I know he'll be fine but i can just see her turning up in clothes that don't match, hair not brushed and having eaten nothing but take away crap! ha.( not the end of the world I suppose.)

debs75 I think it depends on the maturity of the baby's lungs. They are counted as being prem before 37 weeks but most babies get the surfacant they need to breath on their own by 36 weeks. I looked into it- when they wanted to give me steroid injections. Some stories I read about early births only needed a couple of hours on oxygen, some a few days/weeks and others no oxygen was needed but because they were small they had to stay in to put weight on. They refer to them as 'feeders and growers' in American hospitals. So no straightforward answer i'm afraid. Sorry

Bessie123 Don't be daft, no offence taken at all. I'm a northern lass, we don't get offended easily. :) And I hope you didn't think I was telling you to F* Off! Was just explaining my reasoning behind the choice. You are entitled to say whatever you want. :o

sassy34264 · 11/08/2010 12:34

forgot to say debs75. EEK. Definately doesn't feel like i'm sitting on a head! How horrible that sounds. I'd be worried death...ha.

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2010 16:40

Sorry you are feeling so rubbish skyeplusbump it's horrible when you are so tired you just cry! We are going out tonight so DS is at my parents now and DH isn't home, phoned me about half an hour ago and was on the phone for 15mins telling me how awful his day was. Not that I'm not sympathetic but could he not have riden home first, been home 15mins earlier and told me then? Ah, men- what would we do without them?!?!

It's weird though, I'm sitting in the house totally alone (well as alone as you can be with a dog, 4 cats and a snake). Might have a quick nap Wink

A friend of mine was due on 16th Aug but opted for a CS Monday as she had a large baby last last time, resulting in an emergency cs and this one was measuring on 98th centile in a growth scan and she didn't want to feel that she'd failed again at giving birth. All went to plan and she had her little boy Seth at 11am weighing 8lb 4oz, has had to send her DH out to buy newborn baby clothes as everything was too big for him!

comixminx · 11/08/2010 17:42

Oooh, swordfish, I just had my homebirth meeting with the midwife this morning so I too am all booked in. I have a homebirth box sat at home now!

We're going to buy dustsheets and stuff at the weekend - I think that's the main thing - and then we're also going to put something waterproof over the mattress, under the mattress protector, so it's not too slippery.

Have you used a TENS before and are you a convert? Not sure if I can be bothered with yet another thing to sort out, but I do hear good things about them, and it's probably better to have one just in case - what do you think?

Stickhasgrownup · 11/08/2010 20:15

Swordfish - Only other thing I can think of, off the top of my head, is a lamp! My MW suggested it (incase you need stitches) and it acctually makes sense! Although I didn't have one last time I thought it was a good call.
Otherwise I have a single mattrace for the floor with old shower curtains an sheet over. Will have that up against sofa so I can kneel on it and lean on sofa.
Birthing ball as opens you up nicely!!!
Blanket for if I have a fast delivery again and go all shivery and shocked.
Old towels - incase waters erupt suddenly and in a big way (like last time).
Towel for baby when first born.
I have the 2 boxes from the hospital now... so all seems more real!

Jay and Debs - Good luck with it all and please keep us posted!

Comix - I had a tens with DC1... didn't work for me as I kinda forgot that you could increase the settings as labour progresses and didn't occur to dh! So didn't bother with DC2 and won't with this one.

sassy34264 · 11/08/2010 21:03

Just been to Asda and after the horrible time I had the other day at Tesco I told DP that I want to sit in a wheelchair. :o

DD was suitably embarrassed of her mum and DP decided to take a picture on his phone! But after the inital wierdness and daftness wore off I actually quite enjoyed it. (electronic wheelchair) It was fun!
I also noticed that I get stared at a lot cos of my size but you also get stared at in a wheelchair. Difference is- they look away quicker when you're in the wheelchair. :)

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2010 21:30

I used TENS last time comixminx and found it really useful. Have hired one again this time and it arrived today. Didn't want to take it off to get in the bath so must have been doing something Grin

parkj83 · 11/08/2010 21:38

Hi Stick, hi Comix, hi swordfish

I've had my homebirth meeting with my mw, but it wasn't as positive as I was hoping, - I have to go to hospital next friday to see an obstetrician (sp?) as I'm classed as "high risk hb" Hmm and she spent most of the time discussing what might go wrong/why I might end up in hospital. Yeah, all very well and good to know, but still, I'd like one or two positive comments supporting my decision to birth at home!!

She's also put me on iron tablets which is fun, as I get blocked up at the best of times!!

On a hugely brighter note though, I had my 1st pre-natal appt with my doula last night, and it was so wonderfully positive! She gave me loads of confidence for the hb, and really made a point of reassuring me about my appt on friday. She very rightly pointed out that unless there are definite medical grounds for a hospital birth, he can't make me come in. (Yay!) And DH felt really positive about it too - he confessed after the visit he wasn't sure about having a doula, but now he's met her, and had a chance to fire questions at her, he's really happy I decided to hire her.

Just got home with DS from MIL's, and I can't believe how much we've missed having him around. Yes it's been quieter, but there are loads of little things he helps with round the house that I've missed him for! Sugh as getting the post from the front door :o

I have to confess though, I am not ready for my hb yet! DH will be getting the baby clothes down this weekend from the attic, and putting the cot up, but I haven't really started getting the kit together for hb Blush TBH I've just felt so lousy!

parkj83 · 11/08/2010 21:39

34+4 btw :o

patito · 11/08/2010 21:53

HI

Jaysfourth and Debs75 i hope alls going well with you both. Smile

Have MW appointment tomorrow and HB MW coming on Sunday for visit also. Felling abit more organised, still have afew things to sort but at least all but one of essentials is sorted.

Varicose vains really playing up here as well. I have been told VV of vulva will def clear up after birth and the ones down leg will improve if not completely disappear. I dont mind as long as they aren´t so painful and I can stop wearing the horrible support tights!!

Debs75 · 12/08/2010 00:00

Went swimming today to take my mind off things. Was really nice as DD loved it but have been having BH all day, am restless, hungry but not bothered about food, pacing and in pain. Ring any Bells?
RL friend thinks I am in early labour thanks to the sweep. Could be as the BH are getting painful and I still can't settle. Gonna try and get some sleep.Hah! and if it gets too bad have a bath. If it gets worse then might give the hospital a ring and go in early. will probably tail off when I get to bed.

Managed to get almost everything I needed back off friend and we have got most things covered apart from how DP is going to get DD to sleep tomorrow. She fed off me for about 45 mins before she settled tonight.

Sassy thanks for the info on the lung maturity. I don't like thinking it will all be a surprise, I would like to know something that will happen.
Oh I might of overdescribed the engaged feeling, imagine instead of sitting on their head just feeling a pressure there when you sit bolt upright.

Good for you using the wheelchair, there is nothing worse then pushing yourself and then paying for it later.

bananastew · 12/08/2010 08:25

Jaysfourth Hope you're ok! Debs Good luck!

Well, I was up for 3 hours in the night! My braxton hicks are really strong & getting quite painful now. I've been having them for the last couple of weeks. Each time I think "is this it!" It tends to be when I'm in bed & usually I can switch off & go to sleep but not last night! I ended up in the bath at 4am and they finally eased! I'm starting to worry now tho cos I was quick with ds & the mw has told me to go straight in if i think its coming. Problem is I don't think I'll know till I'm pushing! Looks like an unexpected home birth for me! Grin

37 weeks! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats full term! I am ready, I am ready, I am ready, I'M NOT READY Shock

Cluds · 12/08/2010 10:16

Am also hoping/planning on a hb and after reading all these posts am panicking that i am (as always) completely unorganised! Have printed off a list of things I need and will start shopping for fun things like dust sheets etc!

sazziey sassy34264 and skaterGrrrrl thanks for your welcomes!
skyeplusbump i hope you are having a better day today. i hate the uncontrollable hormones that rage through our bodies when pregnant! I feel like i am on a hormonal rollercoaster! My DH came home yesterday complaining of being so tired at the moment. Outwardly I kept saying all the right things (I hope) but inwardly I was screaming "you're tired?? you think you're tired?? try having anaemia and low B12 levels and feeling so utterly exhausted you can't even put one leg in front of the other and have to crawl on all fours up and down the stairs........."....I wonder if he could tell that my sympathies weren't real??!!
34 +3 days.........plenty of time right??!

whammie76 · 12/08/2010 10:59

Hi all, sorry not posted for while.

Good luck Jaysforth that all goes smoothly!

Oh I'm so fed up, been nesting for about 4 weeks now - I'm trying to be sensible by just doing a few things at a time. My kitchen cupboard are nearly spotless as been doing one or 2 a day. Washed all dd's old white clothes that I've been keeping in the loft. Don't know what we're having, but brought the small pink clothes down to wash too n- just in case it's a pink bubs.

Got MW appt today, different one as usual MW is on her hols, so be nice to see a new face. Just getting BP checked and got really sore under bump pains.

Got really upset with DH last night. Originally wanted to go to a different hospital for birth, as one I've chosen I went to before and postnatal care was awful. But DH wanted me to go there again as closer to his work, family etc and it's about 25 mins drive from home. Other hospital is 35-40 mins drive. It just got me wondering if I could change my mind, I'm 34+3, so not sure if I could. I's just that DD is at school 20 mins from this other hospital and I have relatives more or less available to take her anytime if I went into labour(dh's family will take her but they all work, so would be difficult id during day). Anyone know if I can change this late on, DH isn't impressed, but it's me who's to give birth and I was really upset after last time or should I just chance it and hope it's ok?

Sorry for the mega long post ladies.

parkj83 · 12/08/2010 12:44

Hi whammie I'm the same with the nesting! It's driving me mad, as I'm usually quite untidy disorganised!

WRT your choice in hospital, ask! They can only say yes or no. I personally would try and change it. I don't like my local hospital at all, so I'm opting for home birth. But if you have the option of another hospital, I'd try and go for it. As you rightly say, it's you who is giving birth, and you have to be comfortable in your surroundings xx

parkj83 · 12/08/2010 12:47

Hi ladies, just got back from the doctors, and joy of joys, I have a UTI.

At least it's getting sorted now, and I'm feeling much more cheerful! Just trying to get my appetite back up again now. Confused

sassy34264 · 12/08/2010 12:52

Your welcome Debs75. Saw the midwife today and twin 1 is not engaged anyway and no uti, so god knows what it was! Good luck if you are in labour.

I also had my 36 week scan and the babies are estimated at 6.5lbs and 7lbs. Managed to see a very nice consultant today as well (not MY consultant but heyho). My c-section is booked for 2 weeks today- 26th August. So excited!!!!!

Good luck to you too bananastew if you are starting off.

whammie76 · 12/08/2010 13:52

Hope you feel even better soon parkj83

Think I'll mention the hospital change, see how I stand. Wouldn't be the end of the world if I couldn't change, but want to find out my options anyway.

mellymooks · 12/08/2010 14:33

Hello lovely ladies, gosh there is so much happening!!

I'm feeling a bit brighter after a couple of weeks in the doldrums feeling like I have the worst PMT ever!

My friend had a baby girl on Sunday and I went to visit yesterday SO TINY!! Can't believe my DD was even smaller when born, somehow still don't quite seem to be able to equate my bump with actual tiny human!

35 weeks today...

parkj83 · 12/08/2010 15:32

Thanks whammie and good luck, hope it works out ok Wink

melly, DH is more ready for this one than me! Although I feel grumpy here and there, I'm not ready to stop being pg! lol

sazziej · 12/08/2010 16:36

Oh I am SO ready - been up since 4.30am with BH - really strong and making me feel quite sick. I have just spent 3 hours in the hairdressers melting in the heat... but at least I look less like Worzel Gummedge now... I had knitted a pram blanket by 11am this morning.... there is nothing left to clean.... may have to have a nap to stop me pacing up and down looking for something to do!

37+1

Cluds · 12/08/2010 19:02

OMG sazziej how exciting. Well, at least having been in the hairdressers you will look fab for all photos if you do go into labour soon! Good luck!

Chathappy · 12/08/2010 19:46

Wow sassy, it must be so heavy carrying twins round. Thats good they are good weights though.

I have my consultant appointment tomorrow to go through my vba2c plans so fingers crossed they are good about it all.

Had another reflexology appointment today -highly recommend it, its so relaxing. Although my reflexologist is a midwife too and had a feel of my bump and said she thinks baby may be back to back Sad

Really hoping she is wrong as my first turned back to back during labour and I ended up having a long labour and eventual c section..... Really want to try and have a normal birth this time!

Also been getting really bad sore pains under my rib on the right hand side - sometimes so bad it keeps me awake all night! Found an old thread on mums net about something called 'rib flare' and sounds exactly like that!

Can't wait to get baby out now! Hope you're all coping ok this week - I'm certainly ready to not be pregnant anymore anyway!

36.1 weeks

Swordfishtrombones · 12/08/2010 20:22

Wow! There's a definite air of excitement reading through all the posts from yesterday! Maybe we'll be getting a few announcements soon.....Debs? Jay?

I too am getting really bad BH, especially in the evenings. I probably don't have time for them during the day!

Comix - I used a TENS machine both other times and I found it really useful. You do need to have it on early though. I had quite long labours to get used to it and found it really helpful. Maybe it's also something to take your mind of the contraction Grin. I had one machine that went up to 10 and I never got past 7 as I felt I wanted to keep something in reserve. However, a lot of people find it irritating like having a woodpecker on your back (though possibly this is because it's not in the right place - it feels good when you get it right).

Banana - you've reminded me that today the baby is officially not premature! Hooray!

Stick - thanks for the lamp tip - I forgot about that one! And also the towel for baby - doh!

fingers crossed for you Park. The thing is with a hb is that you have 1 or 2 midwives looking after just you! It's ace. You don't get that in hospital. I had to transfer to hospital with DD1 (meconium in water) but that was fine and my 2 midwives stayed with me and delivered her without anyone else being there.

Chathappy - don't worry about baby being posterior. DD1 was posterior and it did take a while, but most of them turn (she didn't!). Second time round you'll be just fine!

37 - woo hoo!
